sorry but the tuner shop's i knowledge about don't want to tune/boost them and dealership's/aftermarket-resellers ( almost thought 💭about buying/using a IRS used-mustang as in-between ride for my charger in the metal and paint-booth, the $$ and automatic/salesman missed the deal as if its a mustang i was clear GT/v8 ( so resell it higher and easier to dealing with etc, plus historically for likes being a pain for L4's/v6's and part's/repairs/discontinued-etc ) + stick packages ) don't like dealing with mt82 equipped there's a reason for the 10R80/10r140's and or tr6060's and the premiums, good thing is the 6060/magnum is more available as more than one manufacturing activity used it as well as being a tremic crate-opportunity, mines a drop-out out of a C7 z51 package and sofar im into it about the same as the video or less, without the headache of new-gear's-etc just core and swap-bit's for my 60's charger , there vary capability of making bell and other swapping bit's, im doing parts of it and currently i don't have a home 3d-printing or mill so there shop-space probably is better equipped than mine is 🤷‍♂ 🤔

IMO sequential is overrated. Very cool, very fast and functional, but not as fun as H-pattern. Dog engagement is a "hell yeah" though. The most fun transmission is an H-pattern dogbox.

Im a Ford mechanic. Ive done a lot of those. Those gears don't look too bad. I've seen waaaay worse. That would have a harsh engagement but wouldn't pop out of gear. Be careful heating gears to not apply direct heat to the teeth or splines. You can ruin the heat treat if you get them too hot, which will eventually result in pitting. As a side note, Ford really cheaped out on the MT82 with those shift forks and not even putting any detents in the shift hubs. That whole design says "cost cutting".

@@chriscaine1776 calimer stage 3 mt82 is really damn strong. The thing that kills mt82 is the clutch or not knowing how to drive. It's notchy like gated transmissions.
@chriscaine1776
@chriscaine1776 4 месяца назад
@hatch450sx3 it's not though, it's prone to failure even at the stock power rating. There are countless clips of the MT-82 failing while in gear going down the highway, and sending metal out of the case. It gets extensively worse though as you go up in power. That's why its not uncommon for people to change out a stage 3 mt-82 for a stage 1 t-56

Another thing to consider with syncros, but something you can't do much about, is that the rotational inertia of the clutch disc matters too. I have a Subaru 5 speed (famously shitty) with a stock clutch in a heavy car, it'd grind second sometimes when the syncros couldn't keep up. I swapped that trans into another car later with a light 6 puck clutch (long story) and suddenly it shifted great. So if you can run a smaller diameter or lighter clutch that will help too. The Subaru trans is a cakewalk in contrast to this though! Wow that's a job to teardown.

I think this is part of the reason Ford went to the twin disk clutch on newer MT-82 Mustangs. I swapped a 2016 MT-82 into a 2000 Lincoln Navigator and a sport clutch and solid mounted shifter went a long way into improving the shift feel.

So sad. When the MT82 came out, myself and many others I am sure just knew they would be junk. I actually stuffed a "Known Good" one in my 07' Mustang GT for a minute. The gear ratios were ideal for the 4.6 compared to the stock 3650. But alas it crapped out in a few months and a 3650 went back in it. Thanks for the detailed rebuild. I still have my crapped out MT82. I might stuff it in an 80' Trans Am project I am working on currently. If so I'll use your video for reference during the rebuild. Also I really think this build is one of the best on youtube. Thanks for sharing.

send off that mt82 to calimer and get it built up for cheap. They do a great job. their stage 1 normally costs around 1800-2000 depending on damaged parts from your core. Bronze shift pads, billet shift rail stop, carbon fiber synchro's, seals, bearings, etc. or jump to that stage 3 for the G-force billet 1-4, runs around 4k iirc
@BuffMyRadius
@BuffMyRadius 4 месяца назад
@@Tac_3403the at home rebuild on these is pretty manageable too. I picked one up with a blown 2nd gear synchro for $200 and did a rebuild for around $120. I do wish I had jumped for the carbon synchros though.

11-17 have the steel selector forks. The 18-19.5 have the Chinese alloy selector forks that snap, from 19.5 onwards, they started making them in the US and where far stronger. Texas Transmissions supply upgraded 1-4 gears, and an upgraded input shaft, plus carbon synchros too. There is a problem with the OEM gears as they àre soft. So bin them. They also supply bronze shift pads, bronze shift stop. I'm designing some better stuff for these gearboxes here in Australia. They're not a bad transmission when fixed with better parts, and there are plenty of 700+whp stands running them stock, and plenty into the 9's on them, stock. Best gearbox fluid to run in these is Motul DCT, or Nissan R34 GTR transmission fluid.

In addition to idiots, the wrong oil can wreck a transmission as well. My '82 Alfa GTV6's trans had what looked like steel wheel paint in it. The previous owner's "mechanic" filled it with 80w-90 hypoid gear oil instead of non-hypoid, like GL-1. Hypoid oil is actually abrasive in trans that have straight cut gears. So I had a pan full of silver paint. Fortunately I caught it in time and it was fine with the correct oil.
