I walk the viewer through measuring and adjusting clutch clearance in the forward and direct drums, including an interesting result when double-checking the forward drum's clutch clearance.
Nice on the minimum clearances . That'll work well . Really need some weight on the pack to get a true zero would gain you a little also , in comparison to at rest like you test. For example a Ford BTR 4speed , actually specify a 2kg weight on the clutches to get a true zero then measure . Be interesting to recheck . I might try on the next i do as a comparison, It's how I check but never really put a figure on the difference.
Thank you again for watching, Greg and appreciate the input. Over the years rebuilding, I've noticed that a little downward pressure on a given clutch pack will yield a few thousandths or so in clearance, depending on what transmission and clutch you're working on at the time. However, since the ATSG nor other industry trade group manuals for the C6 or other transmissions I work on mention adding specific amounts of weight or downward force that as part of clearance measurement procedures, I don't mention anything about it in my videos...Plus, most folks will not likely have a means of measuring/verifying they are exerting a very specific amount of weight or pressure equivalent while checking clearance (i.e. a checking weight of some sort) so starting with the pack at rest establishes a uniform set of initial conditions for everyone. That said, I'd be curious as to what you find when you do your comparison and see if the difference in weighing down the pack by 2kg makes a material difference in your measurements or not; meaning if when you add the 2kg, you find you need to use a thicker snap ring to meet clearance. I have a few more C6 vids coming out this week and early next covering topics such as measuring front end play, band adjustment, air checks etc so would be curious to hear your perspective on those once they're published. Have a good one, thanks again!
@@nickstransmissions Look forward to watching. Not criticizing at all , I enjoy the vids , seeing how everyone does them . just adding some input of what I have found . I've done a lot of C6's , (and corrected quite a few that have been messed up by others ) and 100's of other types over 40 years . Thanks for taking the time to post your vids .
Hi Hugecat - the best places to locate the selective snap rings (and most other transmission parts) is your local transmission parts supply house or dedicated on-line transmission suppliers like Transpartswarehouse.com or Cobratransmissionparts.com. Transtar may also have some available through their distro network.
