Here we replace a dedicated horizontal gas furnace made by consolidated furnace company from 1990 with a ducted Mitsubishi SVZ heat pump. install smooth, not very eventful. We go over how to install some aspects of the job including the Mitsubishi MHK2 thermostat. These furnaces from this era were recalled due to housefires. We did not check to see if this was one of the actual models listed, but it is from the correct year and made by the right company to be in the recall era and the homeowner was the one that brought up that it may have been recalled.

Nice one. In my part of the country we have a bunch of homes from the 1800’s , short ceilings in the basement. Not uncommon for us to see slab evap coils because of this. Usually hooked up to lo boy oil furnaces. I’ve even seen two on the same system installed on opposite plenum branches.

Really dislike the MHK2. Use the 24 volt adapter and put a standard thermostat on those. The customer will be much happier.

Really? We've had no complaint's thus far about the MHK2 and we've installed about 10 of them so far. Never had a callback for one and never had a customer complaint. I usually follow up with customers on installs like this about a month later to check how they like the UI

@@SurfBrosHVAC I guess where you are, you aren't installing heat strips. The staging of the heat strips is a joke with the MHK2 so I always use a 24 volt thermostat. I live in a colder climate.

Just came across this same type of furnace ealier this year. From what I can tell from the video, it's probably the same model. I tried fixing it because the heater didn't work anymore. Now that I know that its been recalled, I am going to condemn it. Liked the video. 👍

It's recalled in California if it was from the 80s/90s. They still are made I think cause I see newer ones every once in a while made by Ducane

Looks good, I do like those units have installed about 9 of them and no real issues even with the deep south humidity they work

@@SurfBrosHVAC they’re a real pain. The only time I use them new is when I’m only replacing an existing slab coil. People put those dedicated horizontal furnaces above drop ceilings here back in the day too. Those are real fun to get out without messing up the ceiling.

This new mini split crap are throw aways. Mitsubishi trash, parts expensive and hard to get. Like most 17 seer and above are screwing the consumers in the long run.

I mean, I haven’t seen any reason to agree with you. I’ve been installing high efficiency equipment most of my career. As long as it was put in properly it usually lasts a long time.

@@AaronPowellvox Guess my service work is on the beach areas, which will wear any units out. 50 years in the trade and seen a lot of crazy things come to the market.
