Glad to hear you like the Bruichladdich. There should be a batch code on the bottle that you can plug into their website. It'll tell you what type of casks went into the batch and their ages. Typically 75/25 ex-boubon/ex-wine. Their Islay Barley bottlings are very similar to the Classic Laddie. For that one they source all the barley from Islay farms which are named on the bottle. They're also usually age-stated around 8 years or so. The Bruichladdich Organic bottlings have been my favorite so far. All ex-bourbon casks. Beautiful whisky.

LOVE the Arran 10 year! Such a great light, fruit forward single malt. I’ve heard their 18 year (new bottling) is a game changer. Sadly the 18yr is not available around me, but the 10 year for the price beats most, if not all, Maccallan bottles.

Knob 9 is tricky. We own a bottle and don’t like it much. But due to lack of available pours out at some bars, knob creek 9 is usually available and we have had some pours out in bars that are actually good. (Very vanilla)

Great video. I know you guys are digging peated Scotch lately and I actually like the 8yr Lagavulin for about half the price. Another recommendation if you can kind it is anything from Kilchoman, a newer Islay distillery that does some fantastic stuff. My favorite of their regular expressions is the Sanaig but the Machir Bay is their base expression and is also spectacular. Cheers!

Excellent idea for a series because as a "realworld whiskey consumer" I love to grab something new just to check it out, or because I heard some good buzz. Thanks for your take right out of the neck. Especially with bottles you can locate. Nothing says realworld like something you can actually find. With the peated scotches, I get notes of Sherlock Holmes -- something Erin might say 🤣. Please keep doing these. No regerts.

Man that Lagavulin 16 is one of my faves, I see it for upwards of 120 but can also find it for like 70-75! It is such a weird price swing here in WI. I bought mine for 75 and would buy at that piece all day.

Appreciate the subject matter on this one. Much prefer reactions to bottles rather than just a recount of recent purchases. Picked up a Knob Creek 9 year 120 proof from Total Wine recently and was very disappointed. Just a regular release. Not a pick. Not good at all. Did not know much about the Bruichladdich as I prefer Speysides. But when you said it was unpeated I pulled up my total wine app and threw one in my cart. Also may have to try the rums. I found one I like in the $150 price point. Foursquare Touchstone 14 year aged in bourbon barrels. About 120 proof. Also excellent.

This is a great question! While we do find a lot of interest in single malts as a fun aside to bourbon and rye, we do tend to reach for bourbons and ryes more. We just have so many of those and so few single malts, and it's easier to find and buy good single malts while demand is sky high for bourbon and rye, so our purchases are a bit of a reflection of the state of the whiskey industry right now. We're not jumping ship from bourbon and rye anytime soon though. That's still home base.
