I am so happy you posted this recipe! I probably would have gone on looked for a can of sweet potato pie filling. Lol. I got married at 14, my first son was born at 16, then another at 17, another at 18. I knew nothing about nothing but being a mother. I didn't know how to cook, but I decided to give my mama a break from cooking for the holidays. Oh Miss Brenda, what did I do?? Well I made 4 pumpkin pies, roasted a 22 lb turkey, @ made salads, grave, mashed potatoes. Etc. The problem? The giblets were roasted in the turkey so the gravy was not giblets gravy. The turkey was raw on inside, charred on outside. The salads were ohhhh ok. The potatoes were from box. But bad were the pies. Heck I didn't know you were supposed to add things to those cans of pumpkin. They were awful..even with the whipped cream from the aerosol can. Well those holidays were spent at a buffet restaurant. Horrible huh? ((((Hugs))))
Oh..My.... I had a sister that married very young as well. My Mother once told me when she first got married she didn't know a thing about cooking either. She said that when she first got married my dad would go and sat at their table waiting on breakfast and dinner. She said that she was sort of embarrassed because she really didn't know how to cook but he would sat patiently waiting on her. She said that she would finally throw something together. She turned out to be a fantastic cook. I learned from her. There is still hope for you. I believe in you...Ms Cassie. Practice makes perfect. You are going to get there. Hugs to you.

Your pies look delicious and you cook them exactly like I cook my only thing different you do that I don't do you put a little flower and I put a little baking powder cuz I like to see them fluffy and rise and I love how you brown the crust I do the same thing I cook mine an hour to an hour and a half thank you so much for sharing it's nice to see people cook the same way and yes your pies look delicious thanks for sharing just saying

Your pie looks wonderful, I don't bake them anymore, as I am not the biggest fan of the pies, I will eat only a sliver of a piece and my daughter does not like them and my brother does not need them he is diabetic but will eat the whole pie if you don't watch him. Your cake was beautiful and I loved the dress your daughter had on. I promised my daughter gumbo for Sunday's dinner this week and it looked so good.

I much prefer my sweet potato pies with heavy whipping cream instead of that canned milk. I also do half white and half brown sugar. Your filling looks beautiful though.
@@ShadaeMastersAstrology to me, it tastes fresher. Probably not a very accurate word, but canned milk had it's time during World War II. I just prefer the taste of heavy whipping cream over canned milk.

Hi you can take the rest of the sweet potato filling and make a pone just spray a pan pour it the pan it’s like a sweet bread with no pie crust it’s still good.

Some people put flour in their sweet potato pies & some don’t. The end result they basically all look the same. Is the flour a thickener? Please tell me what is the reason for using the flour.
Yes..its like a little thickner. That slightly holds the filling together. There is really not any difference. The flour makes the filling slight firmer. I uses very little flour and my pies still turns out moist and delicious. You do not have to use the flour..it's optional. I've been making my pies this way for years with and without the flour. IM davis913 if you don’t water it down with milk you won’t need flour. Sweet potatoes as you know are naturally thick. Some people use too many ingredients and mask the real sweet potato taste that came from a long line of cooks. when our grannies made these dishes originally they weren’t fancy the reason you know this is because back then they didn’t have much. (all those spices/ingredients they use today). So it’s up to you do you want that authentic taste or a more modern taste, either way enjoy. Love y’all!
how did you remove the strings? I bake other pies but tried doing a sweet potato last year and I didn't think about the strings until after it was baked LOL. it was a really good pie to be honest and my family devoured it but I would rather remove the strings. Can I use a ricer to get them off?
Using the mixer will remove all of the strings. You will see them attached to the mixer thingys. Not sure what they are called 😊. I hate stringy pies 😖
