I know the video is a bit old, but my recommendation would be to create a roux with some butter and flour in a seperate pan, then add it into your meat and veggie mixture to create the gravy, instead of adding flower directly. With that said, its great to see game being prepared in so many different ways!

I was thinking the same. It's not gravy if you havnt carefully created and stirred buttery napalm for half hour. Those pies look good though.

Do this but line the inside with homemade mashed potatoes and it makes like a Shepard's pot pie, really let's the gravy soak in and adds a buttery goodness to the bottom

I'd eat that on July 4th.

Steve, I love your work and you have taught me so much about hunting and cooking. This video is the first time I have seen you swing and miss completely. That is not puff pastry, you don't have enough (or any) liquid in your pot pie, there is no need to put sugar in the crust and you cut the veg too small. I would still love to sit down with you and eat it anytime, anyplace.

Steve, how did that ground meat turn out? With so much meat in the pan I'd expect it to just boil instead of brown properly. Pretty much no point in even putting it in the pan first if that's the case.
@fishreaper
@fishreaper 9 лет назад
From personal experience, my little cast iron pan can hold exactly 1 lb of ground meat. As long as you are constantly attending it, the fat and oil will help brown up it and retain some of the fat. Cooking up a domestic ground pig I did have to pour some of the fat out because it had expanded to the point of almost over flowing. It made churning the meat with a spatula perilous.

No, the whole thing must be contained in crust.

But then you'd have to blind bake the crust in the ramekin and all that jazz.
