Recital Preparation

January 18, 2011 - In this video clip, I describe the process of preparing for a recital and what's really important in those last few days before the big event. How important is accuracy? Or should we just be focused on managing our embouchure?
Please bear with me as I still mess around with microphones while I try and get the sound ok. The articulation sounds rather too pingy, even for my taste!

This man's solo "bolero"is so far superior to any of the other fifty versions I have heard. This includes my teacher who was principal of a major American symphony.

We could add "...and not September 20, either!" LOL--I love his sense of humor. A great video--if I could get to play even remotely this well, I would be very happy (but I've only been playing trombone for 2 weeks, so I guess I still have a legitimate excuse!).

His Bolero is my favorite also! By a far margin for sure. Benefiting from his teaching also. Thanks Ian for keeping us up to date on everything! What kind of .547 horn do you mostly play and like? I have a 1967 Conn 8H my parents purchased new for me back in 8th grade. Also have a B & S MS1 straight horn no trigger. Has a 9” rose bell. Very sweet sounding

Mr. Bousfield, I also play a Yamahah. I love it. What kind of mouthpiece are you using? It looks like a Bach . . .

You chose to do the Berlioz on a large bore tenor. Did you ever play it on an alto.?

Not that I could play any of those excerpts, but If I could, my embouchure would have given up half way through this video. I don't know how you can get through two hours of this!!!

Nobody can go full out for 2 hours? Give me a break! Go play a couple of jazz gigs, throw in a record date, and general screwing around, and you will aproach what a good commercial player does all day, not 2 hours. Sorry, you play very well, but come on!
