I taught jr high students in AZ for 36 years. We used to teach about how to recognize propoganda, and critical thinking in language arts classes at all levels. We taught them how to argue points using supported proof. This was taken out of the curriculum, as was teaching the Constitution. It's a set up to have poorly educated voters with no critical thinking skills. They are much easier to control. 😢
Far too many people who grew up with commercials about "house hippos" still can't tell the difference. I think that confirmation bias is just too strong.
This way of thinking never stops at the original outsiders. The hate always grows, eventually encompassing those who were previously accepted. So, if you support a fascistic leader or government, there is a good chance that one day they will find some reason to come after you.

This is exactly how the military (of any country) is made to feel about the enemy, whoever they may be at the time. How were the Native Americans treated by the early colonists, and how are they treated today? Indigenous people are treated as subhumans all over the world. And none of this is okay!
The distressing/depressing thing is the number of people who will contemptuously dismiss your message as being "woke" or "leftist" or any of a number of other things. I wish I could give them the world they want, without all the people they hate, and allow them to go live in it, at least for a time. They might find that world isn't what they've been told it would be.
Ask them how they define "woke", or "leftist" or "Marxist" etc. In most cases they can't. It's just parroting. Also: what's wrong with being woke. Proud to be woke myself.
Hi Padre. This is my wheelhouse. I studied propaganda extensively in the US military and in my civilian life. I've even published a primer on the topic. I will, with great respect and love to the memory of the author of Brave New World, differ with Mr. Huxley. Demonization of others is but one tool in the propagandist's toolbox, and it is indeed a potent tool that this era's propagandists use extensively. But there are many, many others. The best definition I know of propaganda, your "Rosetta Stone" is, "any message that serves the needs of the sender." Thus, if I were to say, "buy my book," that's propaganda because I get royalties, even if I believe my book is helpful and salutary. "Vote for X candidate," or "real men smoke Marlboros" is also propaganda. Propaganda may be verifiably true or false, but a propagandist scarcely cares if the message is persuasive. The word comes from propagare, to sow seeds -- a propagandist sows seeds. We have seen online "influencers" exposed for being on the payroll of the tyrant Putin and sowing his propaganda online. Their message is precisely the same as the messages of Donald Trump, a man we've seen behave as a lapdog around Putin. Almost every sentence out of Donald Trump's mouth is self-serving, as one would expect with a man who's plugged the god-shaped hole in his heart with an idol of himself. For those who would like to break away from propaganda's grip, the news from Reuters and UP remains unbiased, verifiable, and not overly sensational, in keeping with proper journalistic truth-telling practices. For the dyslexic there's the PBS News Hour. Unfortunately, evading the persuasive power of propaganda requires both strong moral commitments and above-average intellect. Just as Germans in the 1930s lacked those traits, today's Trump followers lack those traits. The weeds sown by the likes of Couglin, Limbaugh, O'Brien, Carlson, and Alex Jones find fertile ground in the minds of the cruel and the stupid, and we face a bitter harvest.

The trouble with humanity is even if you take away all their reasons for hate, they will find someone or something else to hate. Their hate makes them feel strong. When it is their greatest weakness. If they want peace, they need to live in peace.

This is a vital message. But it's also one we need to make sure to turn on ourselves too. It is so easy to move from, they're wrong to they're evil. I know I have trouble with empathy and love towards them, especially the people who I see doing so much damage. But we have to learn ways to fight back without doing the same thing, or encouraging others to.
Hardly. The problem in the modern West is misplaced empathy. People who take this kind of nonsense and put it ahead of every other consideration. There are times when other things must come first. But it sure has been a shrewd political tactic for liberals....if you stand up to them, you get called 'mean'...which means that you instantaneously intimidate many of those would-be opponents. It's a nice, cheap, convenient way to 'win' a debate.

I'm a progressive and a member of multiple marginalized groups and I have to admit that I've fallen prey to thinking of TFG supporters as subhuman, largely out of fear ... Which is exactly the reason why many of them think of a certain marginalized groups of people (some of which include me) as subhuman. I think I have some self-reflection to do. At least, the candidate on my side isn't the one calling for that kind of thinking.
It's so cruel and inhumane to follow such a person I will follow the person who is for freedom and liberty who shows compassion for the less fortunate because that's a great leader who follows Christ Almighty 👑 🙏🏼

Unfortunately propoganda is easy, even comforting to believe. For every item the test becomes: did it increase and spread my empathy/my love or did it decrease or narrow it - it may not be the perfect test but it works far too often.

Oh my, you and Huxley seem to be describing a world without the existence of a god. Huxley wrote "Brave New World" and "The Devils of Loudun". If you get a chance, check out Ken Russell's remarkable film, THE DEVILS, based on the latter. It's a fever dream of godlessness on earth, and it's about the church, too.
We ALL need to remember that is how these operations work. By all, I mean everyone, no matter your politics. It is not just the right being targeted. There are operations to cause division aimed at the left and center as well. It is not as loud, but it is there and has worked. Ignorance is not the only fuel for propaganda, arrogance works too. We are all human, we all have beliefs, we all have anger & fears, we are all capable of being deceived, especially when it confirms that which we already feel. The fastest way to fall prey, is to think you are far to smart or rightous to ever be targeted. It's really too bad you don't recognize unhoused people as "othered". You just stick with the same examples. Maybe someday the pain will come close enough to home that you begin to recognize the lies and prejudice against us.
I wish I knew what the lies where. Currently I don't understand the government. Which means to me I don't trust it. Which means my vote is to break it.
