It goes back to a quote former president LBJ said: "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you." Trump seems to know this as he offers them someone to look down on.
This is what is so awful. Evangelicals are showing, with their support of trump, that they are not following Christ. They are eroding the faith and have turned many who see the hate, racism, and misogyny being incorporated into "evangelicalism", against it and for good reason.
My mother in law is MAGA. She wears a necklace that says "make liberals cry." My husband and I barely talk or see her for this reason, truly a sad way to live.

My Grandpa used to tell me... "Light a candle 🕯 in the darkness... and you'll find... that light can penetrate through the darkness... but the darkness CAN NOT penetrate the light. Be the light 🕯 of God's love in this world!
There is no darkness... Only lack of light. There is no cold... Only lack of heat. There is no evil... Only lack of good. There is no hate... Only lack of love. Just a little mantra I like to tell myself to help me feel better about this world.

It's a hallmark of followers of fascism. The leader of the cult of personality reinforces the concept of "other," those lesser than us. Someone to blame for all of life's misfortunes.

Actually, once you encounter the love within, you see that love is so much easier, it's ever present, you have to exhaust yourself to keep hating... but they don't want to do the (actually easier ) work to find their way out of hate, or rather they just don't know that they can... they think they have to work really hard finding reasons to just stew in their righteous "suffering" because they have been led to believe they must suffer for their "reward" and if they have to suffer everyone has to suffer... it seems their whole concept of existence revolves around suffering rather than love... they just can't get over that hill (that is not really that high) to see the love that is all around and within them if they would only tap in to it😞 And it's their so called "leaders" that keep them on that hamster wheel for their own profit 😞 (back to the money changers... I think everything goes back to the money changers... Jesus knew, but these people always forget about that part and worship the money changers in reality, they just haven't figured that out yet)
It's not JUST hate. It's a complete lack of accountability or responsibility for their own lives and their own happiness. They are miserable and they desperately want it to be someone else's fault. That's where the hate comes from.
I don't want to hurt Trump supporters, I wish their hearts would soften, that we could all be humbled, that we try to understand each other's stories. I do wish they would read and study history more, though.
I want the ones who claim Christianity to read and take the words of Christ as important, to take those teachings to heart and action --- not just disregard those teachings entirely to cherry-pick a few verses from elsewhere in the Bible that make them feel self-righteous in themselves. And it certainly would be a good thing if they studied and understood history as well. I know a whole bunch of them. I am a Texan. I have known and loved them my whole life. We had access to, and I assume have read and studied, all of the same books --- those in the Bible, and those in the classroom. I went on to college, but then again, so did some of them. They took on different influences that came along with cable television, and I think those influences spoke to them in ways that they enjoyed.

I remember seeing an interview of a Trump supporter during his administration. Her one complaint? "He's not hurting the people he's supposed to be hurting." That part.
As to the story about Queen Esther and her uncle Mordecai...how Haman build gallows to hang Mordecai, but he himself was hanged on what he'd built. The moral of the story: The life you take may be your own. These Trump supporters may very well be building their own demise. They believe they are making it harder for people of color and immigrants, yet might be building their own misery.

What's really weird is how they claim we are being hateful towards them by pointing out their hateful behavior. Somehow, asking them to just be good people enrages them.

100%... I had a recent interaction that provided me some clarity, in this case around the topic of public education. No one denies there aren't problems with public education. But rather than fix those problems, they want to completely eliminate the Dept of Ed. How could that possibly be the best solution? "I don't like this thing, therefore it has to go away completely!" 🙄
Very true. My mother-in-law and my wife's entire family are hard-core Trumpers (my wife most definitely is not). Now I remember the mother-in-law taking part in a Christmas gift donation program for the less fortunate that had the donors actually take their gifts (groceries, clothes, etc.) to the needy people's houses in person. In this area, these people were often black but she went and expressed joy at watching the children open gifts that they otherwise would not have. She seemed to feel good about this yet when she sees a person of color in the neighborhood, her response is always: "What's HE doing here?" The other day in a grocery store line, a fellow was speaking with the cashier who recognized his accent and they obviously had something in common. The mother-in-law commented: "Probably an illegal or on food stamps." They were both from Albania and for all we know, the guy could have owned a business or have been otherwise very successful. But any accent was enough to set her off. So she showed caring with her Christmas routine yet settles back in to the teachings of Disgusting Don and resumes her hateful life during the rest of the year. And Fox "News" blares from her TV all day long. I don't understand but I really have lost all respect and I avoid any contact with her ( as much as possible). I won't be in the company of such a person.
The bibles says, not everyone who says Lord, Lord shall enter but those who DO the will of my father. These people like your mother in law will do somethings right, but their heart is far from God.
May pastor used to speak on this. Those who wish for “justice”. He always said that he didn’t want or need “justice”, he needed “MERCY” and “GRACE”. Mercy and grace is what we should all want.
One of my patron verses is Hosea 6:6. "For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings." One might need to take a minute, at the realization that they are actually reading the Old Testament....
Brilliant analysis. I’m not American, I don’t live in America and from afar all I can see is an unhappy, frustrated country that look around and see themselves being robbed of their dreams and blaming people that they envy and desperately want to punish for getting away by enriching themselves regardless of who and what they leave behind. Trump is their avatar for vengeance. The one that does everything they can’t themselves. He says and does what they would love to do but can’t because they are meek and lack confidence. What blows everyone’s mind, from a sane perspective, is that they decided to support exactly the people (Trump isn’t in charge obviously) who are going to make their lives even more miserable. I would commiserate with them but to my shame, I, like them want to chastise them for being stupid. What a sad and depressing time we are in…..
I feel an element of truth in this. I have spoken to three Trump supporters here in Australia, and they each like that he is against who they are against. Disturbing.
Very insightful commentary. This dynamic is evident at Trump rallies where attendees cheer his hateful rhetoric about people he refers to as “the enemy within” and sadistically describes the harm that will be done to those people under his administration.
I think Donald Trump is the embodiment of the worst in all of us. Seeing our most negative characteristics being paraded on stage by that sad example of a human being as if they were something to be proud about is very depressing.
You explained very well why I am a New Testament Christian. You also explained why the Christian nationalism and evangelical movements are primarily Old Testament.
@@witwisniewski2280 the Old Testament wasn’t’ Christian. It was eye for an eye. It took Jesus’ sacrifice for Christianity to begin. No retribution, vengeance has no place in Christianity
What a sad way to think. I'm glad that I heard from a really early age that we might not see how people will be held accountable, but have faith that they will be. It freed me up from alot of crap people waste time on
It's the classic band of bullies in school. Most of them wouldn't act on their based instincts without having an example to compare themselves against. The classic answer when their are confronted by authority (parents or teachers) is often: "but I'm not as bad as *insert head bully name*". Not as bad is already an acknowledgement of being on the bad side. They just hope to evade punishment by placing themselves just above the example. Another classic defense: "but everybody else does it" or "if it wasn't me, somebody worse would do it".
I believe that vengeance doesn’t serve my needs in the slightest. I don’t care about vengeance. What I want from God is reparations that cover my needs and the needs of every marginalised and disenfranchised person. I saw a lapel pin that said, “Equal rights for others doesn’t mean fewer rights for you, it’s not pie.”
It is so tempting to interrupt my relatives' maga rants by rolling my eyes and saying, "I GET IT. You hate me more than you love your grandkids. Moving on!" I don't say it because I still have some vestige of manners. But I think it quite loudly.
It is awful, it is shallow. It’s also very sad. A heart full of hate is a very sad thing. Imagine how much good the billions of dollars spent on these horrifying campaigns could do for the people who have suffered through the last two hurricanes in the US. Or how much food it could put in the stomachs of children who do without.
Nothing unites people stronger than anger & hatred. This unity is so strong that it eliminates reason, morals, empathy, and the ability to agree to disagree. It fractures society.
Well articulated, Rev Ed. I just don’t understand why anyone would support Trump. Now, I get it. As you stated, they support him not for what he’ll do for them. He just knows who they don’t like, and he plays them with saying he’s going to protect them from who they hate. He appeals to their worst nature by blaming others for their problems.
This makes as much sense as I’ve heard from anyone. Trumps followers seem to relish his cruelty, vindictiveness and contempt towards others. What I find most troubling is the fact that Christians who claim to follow Christ are some of his most ardent supporters.
Mean spirited people do exist unfortunately. Fortunately, people like you have pretty good advice on countering that side of human nature, internally and externally. Thanks Ed, you do good.
I used Google translate for two Swedish words: avundsjuka and missunnsamhet. Google translated to envy for both of them, as if they have the same meaning. In Sweden, however, it is usually understood that the word "avundsjuka" stands for "I like that you have ❎ but I also want it" while the word "missunnsamhet" means "If I can't get ❌, you shouldn't have it either". Conclusion: Those who are MAGAts cannot indulge others in having something they themselves cannot have or achieve. And that is one of the deadly sins: Envy.
We need a whole new vocabulary for these times. Like the self-destructive throwing good money after bad sticking to Dump despite being shown hard facts that he is evil. Like in Revelations where followers of the antichrist choose to stay loyal even after being blatantly shown what he is. (Not that Dump is the ac although there are some interesting parallels, but the similarity of his followers holds).
I know it's just a thought but it is a very interesting thought. Thanks for sharing it. It might help me to understand how Trump supporters think and keep supporting someone that I just cannot wrap my head around.
I've been reading the Psalms because they just really seem to be relatable. And what's ironic is that MAGA compares Trump to King David BUT it's almost as if King David was writing about people like them! And it's not about wishing any harm on them but about defending my God and my Bible and my faith, and knowing that in all actuality, they ARE written about people like them. And God coming to the defense of those that MAGA continuously threatens. It brings me peace knowing that God will come to our defense and I just want to share that peace. A day WILL come when we will mourn no more. 🙌🙌🙌
Its up to us, and our responsibilities. Hopefully God will guide those on the fence, or those intimidated, etc. But it's up to us, everyone of us to act! Which means not just voting to support the more Christian choice, but to help everyone around us to find their power & strength too.
The blind leading the blind. Trump is more like king Nebuchadnezzar who defied the God of Israel, couldn’t (metaphorically)see the handwriting on the wall, lost his kingdom, lost his mind - grew hair like a beast, lived under the elements, and ate grass like an ox for seven years. Trump is worse and has exceeded his expiration date. 💙💯💙💯💙💯💙💯💙✝️!!!!!
You are certainly on the right track. I agree. One of my favorite Psalms is 82. The first two verses are my Favorite of this psalm and reminds of our current state of affairs. God issues a rebuke and indictment framed in the court form of a rhetorical question. What is stark here, is the Posture of God - He is Standing - taking particular notice of those who have failed in their spiritual mandate: v1 God STANDETH in the congregation of the mighty, he judgeth among the gods (little g); v2. How long will You Judge (assess) UNJUSTLY and ACCEPT the persons of the Wicked? Selah (pause and think about it); verses 3. & 4. are the spiritual duties of the true believer verse 5. Is the description of the wicked v 6. Is a reminder of who the faithful is “supposed” to be. V.6 Is a fair warning to those who forget who they are; refusing to fulfill their spiritual mandate. V.7 They will die like mere men, ie those who are without God. v8. God is judge over all the earth and will have the final say. This is an Indictment against so called Christians who have led away from Truth By Maga Extremists. God will Deal With so-called evangelicals who have bought into this spiritual wickedness. EOS End of Story🔥🔥✝️🔥🔥!

@@SibylleJohnson Don't believe what you want, but I hope you understand that there's a huge difference between religion (man's interpretation of Faith and God) with Faith (the experience of and a personal relationship with God). Many religious people are bigoted ignorant hypocrites. But many people also shame those of Faith for the sins of the religious.

True. He gives permission for them to hate. They already had it hidden and now it's okay to let it out. They have forgotten about the one who loves them in spite of their hate. The word of God tells us that their hearts will grow cold.
I have said the same thing in the past but with a twist - they love how he attacks, insults, bullies, & punishes the people THEY HAVE BEEN TAUGHT to hate. Which leads to the question: WHO taught them to hate these people?
