SOBI, I could use some real world 4runner advice. My fam is considering nabbing one of these final 5th gens. Narrowed it down to the Offroad Premium, Offroad Premium with KDSS, or the TRDPro. Resale value is meaningful, though we do keep vehicles for the long term. Mostly on-road and light trail performance prioritized. No major offroading or modification intended at this time (perhaps mods in future), but we like to have serious get-out-of-a-jam capability just in case. How would you rate these three options?

Hey there. Excellent consideration if you ask me. To keep it short and simple, based on your intentions and plans for your future 4Runner I would recommend going with TRD Off-Road Premium trim (non-KDSS). Here’s why: If you’re going to be modding your 4Runner in the future then KDSS may cause problems as it’s a finicky system that hinders most aftermarket applications. Unless you’re planning to keep it mostly stock with non-mechanical upgrades then non-KDSS would be my pick. Same goes with TRD Pro, if you’re keeping it stock but want more factory upgrades and are looking for appearance upgrades then Pro is a great option to consider. Also, since it’s a top of the line trim it will also command better resale value in the future. However, if you’re going to be modifying it with aftermarket upgrades then (in my opinion) your hard earned money is probably better spent with regular TRD Off-Road Premium as it will already come with all the mechanical goodies that TRD Pro is equipped with but costs several thousand dollars less. As for the resale value all TRD models have excellent returns when it comes to resale or trade-in values. I hope this helps. Best of luck in your search and potential purchase!

Limited would be best in this situation tbh

@@MarckySportsDenver well, Limited is great for daily use and on pavement travels and adventures for sure. However, it’s probably not the most suitable trim for off pavement activities as it lacks undercarriage protection, has lower side panels and those 20” wheels aren’t all that ideal either. 😅 Additional, Limited has X-Reas suspension that’s mainly tuned for softer on pavement driving vs Belstein or Fox suspension systems that come with TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro respectively. Cheers!
