Reconstructing a Glasgow stone tenement floor

Several years ago we decided to correct some of the effects of time on an 1850's Glasgow stone tenement. The floor sloped to the centre (almost 60mm). The acoustic treatment protecting us from sounds in the flat below was not working very well. Much of the cornice was covered in a half dozen layers of paint.
So we opened up the floor, took it back to the ceiling below, added new stiffening joists to level the floor, put in thick T&G wood floor and covered that with oak. The walls and ceiling plasterwork was brought back and the details of the cornice exposed.

I created this video to give other hints as to the challenges of retrofitting older masonry buildings which have faults in their floor structures e.g. sags over the span and noise transmission. Your floor might differ in details and it would be good to hear of others undertaking similar work.

I did some of the work along with a couple of local joiners. Their details might be somewhere in my filing cabinet. Not rocket-science, just lots of attention to detail needed as well as some heavy lifting.
