The self noise is audible on any microphone if you have a clean enough preamp and turn it up, but the real benefit of lower self-noise of the Pro over the Micro is the ability to record with lower preamp gain. It makes for a very natural ambience and picks up less distant noise if there is any. I've gotten my most beautiful and delicate field recordings with the Usi Pro by recording with only 12db of gain on a Mixpre 6. Levels barely reaching -20db on the largest peaks.

Not sure what a NOGA piece is. Do you mean the adapter I am using to connect the two usi pro mics?

The distance is very similar to ORTF. Although technically you should use cards for ORTF not Omnis.

​@@dvs3131 thanks, you're right, omni it's technically not ORTF, but distance affects the localization of sounds on the recording, I noticed that omni at a distance of about 17cm create a fairly natural soundstage.

Yeah I agree. Ortf distance on omnis is not that bad at all. To be honest after this series of recordings I did with both mics I think I would have been fine without the Mikro Usi’s. I think 90% of the time I am out I will just stick to the ortf distance. And only do the antenna rig on special things when I want to experiment.
