We needed an accurate countdown sequencer for one of our screen used Knight Rider KITT cars. Using an original as a template, we build a perfect copy that would make Bonnie proud!

Yes the voice box works. BUT KITT cant talk it's not the same. Also with the count down time when kitt turns on to rescue micheal.the count down timer light on one after another not all at the same time.

It's a shame the studio didn't preserve an original dashboard, but at least you guys are helping to preserve the original pieces. I loved the series when I was a kid, although it arrived here in Hungary 10 years late, still a lot of people watched it. Your channel is great, I'm constantly watching your videos!

TV shows rarely save anything. Props are made cheaply then either discarded at the end of production or left outside to rot in the elements, sadly. That is what happened to the Viper mock-ups from the first Battlestar Galactica. Producers have grown wiser and now often auction them off after production.

Looks like all you need is four separate push-on push off switches. Organize them side by side, then go down the row turning them on. Wah-Lah manual countdown sequencer. That's probably what they did on the soundstage. I think I read somewhere (maybe your book) the tach display was driven off of a hand-drill.

I think once you find the rest of the stage dash its done you should recreate some of the shots on a bench / stage just like they did in the series!

It is so great you are able to locate, restore and preserve these original parts. I agree with you, the insert dash should not be exposed to the temperature fluctuations of a driver-car. Hopefully, someday you will open a Knight Rider museum and all these objects will be on display.

I love that you replicated the labels' tyoeface and size. As inpressive as most KITT replicas look, when the fonts are wrong, it breaks the illusion.

Hi all. I never understood the design of the Season 3-dash pod buttons. How does Michael/the operator select the left hand or the right hand column of functions? Are the black buttons in the middle both toggle switches and buttons? And how would the operator have time to select the left or right hand column when driving at speed and making split-second decisions? Thanks for any insights 🙏

AFAIK, the left & right columns share the center buttons, with the "active" side determined by the topmost button (indicated by the horizontal arrows) which acts as a left/right toggle. It's a downgrade functionally, but it _looks_ more high tech. :)

I totally get why you’d like to keep the original dash as is, however couldn’t you keep the screen used gels in your collection & completely renovate the dash? It would look so much better as close to its “new” season 3 & 4 condition as possible. 🤔 Love the videos & roll on 100k subs! You definitely deserve it.

Did they actually use yellow and red LEDs back then and not just bulbs and colored panels? Also would have been great to see the recreation countdown in dark to see the light better. On my screen it looked like the ignitors light was also yellow but if I look hard it does seem to be red. I thought it would be silly if you guys would miss such detail after all that great work. Lighting things up with LEDs back then was not as easy as these days since white LEDs were not invented yet.

Yes LED's were around in the 80's and KITT's original displays were composed of LED's with resistors.

@@MrSFSTUDIOS Yes they were but not as commonly used as today. Also blue and white LEDs were not invented yet so it limited what could be done. But it does look those are the only colors used in KITT so that checks out.

@@jruonti Blue was possible with Vacuum-Flourescent displays. Digitar gauges used them with blue gels over top. That may be how KITT's "Calibrate" display was made.

Have you ever thought of getting together with someone like Dakota Digital dash and making a reasonably functional dash ...tach speedo oil pressure etc for the drivable KITTs and then maybe an ardunio for the rest ...have start up sequence work when you turn the key ..turbo boost trigger sound effect etc maybe make ejector seat function. ...just kidding

but then it wouldn't be a stock KITT, from the TV studio set, but stunt one with a standard dash fitted, well if they are going fit a more KITT fitting dashboard, that was never there in the fist place, hell yes, all the bells and whistles, and even take it to the max., well tech has come a load way in 30+ year, (40+ year), the stuff that was only movie magic, then is almost drive it self on the road today, your world think there world tech engineer's beating path, and interest, work on the in a car like that, just for the fun of make 30+ year tech dreams come true. or at least much tech has improved over the last 30+ years anyway, how ever it dont, it going to look stop on 🙂

Two suggestions for the dashboard: - replace the damaged/discolored parts by recreations while storing the originals, that way it looks nice and you save the already damaged parts from further deterioration. - when recreating the lights functionality, it's probably a good idea to also add an option for malfunctional lights, like when KITT is damaged and the lights are all messed up, like nonworking gauges and partial lights in the voice box.

Why wouldn't you want the replica to countdown vs just all light up. Would seem to me the countdown would be a more authentic. Is it that much more complicated to make a modern circuit that allows for a countdown to fully lit when power is applied. Wouldn't need to replicate the original countdown circuit since it would be hidden behind the dash.
