I’ve always said that. I remember waiting a couple of years to find out what happened and just getting the feeling that something felt off about the new series. I don’t know whether it was the aesthetic or that the writing just wasn’t as good? 🤔
@@charliesarasyoutubeadventu7539 100% agree. The gap from series 6 in 1993 to series 7 in 1997 ruined it. Never felt it was the same again. Until .... series 12 in 2016/17 was quite a surprise and pretty good.
Rimmer getting his hard light drive and as a result, being the only one to survive an attack and then running off to save everyone - especially after the events of Rimmerworld was a great turn in his character. a great place to end it or at the very least continue that thread forward (which they did to an extent with him becoming Ace but it was too little too late).
Thats there, its just been restored to nearer the raw video and edited into a cliffhanger as im not sure if it was one of many edits of that ending at the time or if it litterally was a recobble after
It’s just accrued to me that the only reason that Rimmer was able to blow up the Time Machine is because if there’s anyone Rimmer hates above all, it’s himself
@@edwardreed67 i think it was more rimmer being cowardly and protecting his own skin the easiest way possible, also he really didnt want to become his future self as shown in the story
I have not seen this, infact I might have at one point if its the deleted version in a more finished form? I only used the DVDs and noticed that there were atleast 3 edits at the time of making the series because that little bit on the start of episode 1 of series 7 used a shot not seen before and that shot was made with the old model processes and stock footage from series 6, stuff that by series 7 was replaced
I remember that edit clearly. Rimmer blasts the time drive, you see Starbug exploding, then it fades into the margaritas scene. Nothing restores on board Starbug, and Rimmer's "I'm a hero" line is removed.
It should have never ended on a cliffhanger when they knew the tensions were such that they may never return - only to come back 6 years later and completely retcon the time drive.
In retrospect, I think the "To Be Continued" caption ruins it somewhat for me, knowing just how quickly the show goes downhill after this episode. It should have been the ultimate ending to the series if you ask me, just like the infamous finale to Blake's 7.
Which one? The first one is the broadcast version The second one is likely from a 71 edit or rough edit of the show before cuts were made The third one is the following series reprise, which is likely an edit that was dropped
@@slip899 I personally prefer the broadcast version because it was so shocking, not knowing what would happen and such. I can only imagine how people reacted to it at the time of broadcast
@@KeiranCounsellKC1994 I was a kid at the time and I hated it lol mainly because it was 4 fuckin years till it came back. 4 years wait!! I needed some closure dammit lol
@@slip899 xD yeah red dwarf did have a few gaps for some reason, i personally think that by that time the series had its height and it was only really down hill from there
"to be continued" but it wasn't continued, just like the end of season 3 wasn't continued but instead they did the stupid sped-up text scrawl at the beginning of season 4 to explain away the changes. Love Red Dwarf but such cop outs to fulfilling storytelling is its least appealing aspect.
