True to size and no break in period. That’s interesting. I recently bought a pair of 877’s. They where not true to size and I needed to break them in. Red wing and sizing always is a bit odd. Guy in the RW store said” You can take the same size as your Iron Rangers, all heritage boot should be the same size!” Well…, I sold my Billy Boots because they were too small and they where the same size as my Iron Rangers, so I went up half a size for the 877’s.
My foot lacks just a pinch of needing a 12 size shoe and I always get 11 1/2 so that’s probably why I’m my mind there true to size for me. Thanks for watching.
I wear Terra's a Canadian made boot and have had mink oil do the same thing, turned one boot dark brown and the other medium. The explanation l received was the boots may be the same size but chances are the leather came from different hides so they reacted differently to the oil.
I was looking at the thorogoods, after looking at the wear on yours I decided on Red Wings. I picked up the 10877s today , I can’t tell much difference between the 877s cosmetics I guess. My left foot is a piece of junk, on my feet at least 12 hours a day ”learned to live with the pain”. These will be my farm boots. Did the good feet insoles help you much?
Hey Ron , yes they do, my heels is what hurts the most. They don’t take the pain away a 100 % but they make it workable every day. They want to sell you three different types of inserts but I just use one which is the most aggressive type.
Mink oil darkens leather. I would stick to the leather oil or leather cream. Maybe try applying leather cream on the inside of the boot where the boot is uncomfortable on your feet.
The mink oil I’ve been using hasn’t been that bad but goodness let me tell you I bought some Huberd’s shoe grease and it will turn a shoe dark. Lol Works good though.
Your reviews are real. I have been on the fence for awhile about getting Thorogoods. I have the redwing 875 and love them. I see what you mean about the toe box on the thorogood boots. Your video helped me to make an informed decision! Thanks again
Hey Ben, That’s a good question. If it was me I would . I can’t see that they would be that different. I would be more cautious if I was going from boot to tennis shoes.
I tried a pair of Justin's on at TSC when I was looking for a pair of boots earlier this year's. They felt terrible!!! Maybe if they were broken in but there was no way I could wear them to that point.
Hey Paul I’ve actually since that video have done them twice. The first one was just bottom tread only and I got it done at a local shoe store in Burlington NC called Sykes . The second one which I just got them back was though Thorogoods website and there boot restoration program and I did Total restoration and the built the whole bottom back new. I had them use a leather welt instead of a plastic one. They did some stitching and it was a very nice job. Turn around was about a month. I will say that after I got them back they were extremely tight across the top of my feet and after some oiling and wearing they finally loosened up to were I could wear them again.
