It’s embarrassing but incredibly useful. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been saved by typing Reddit after a question. Also, it’s incredibly funny at times. The back and forth of some comments really just tickle that funny bone you never knew you had.

OK ya, so if you are texting someone and beginning to form a long distance relationship, you should probably video chat for a while first tbh. After a while of video chatting, you are much more likely to know if there isn't a connection.

10:47 - I actually feel like that's still normal. I've, for one reason or another, not been able to meet up with a handful of guys for a month after we first started talking and I was able to tell pretty quickly once we were face to face that it wasn't going to work out. Sometimes the vibes are there over text, but simply aren't there in person. Sometimes people are for whatever reason just super talkative and flirty through the initial texting phase until they secure a first date and then stop putting in the effort the instant you meet in person. Sometimes certain types of guys will think that getting a first date means they're in the clear and we are now in a committed relationship and, trust me, the fastest way to realize you're not actually all that into someone is for you to still be in the "I'll give them a chance" stage when they're already in the "you complete me" stage. But, I think the biggest thing is that there are some guys who will be on their "best behavior" while in that initial talking phase and then the instant you're face to face they can't keep it going for 30 mins straight so you start to see pretty quickly what they're really like. Yeah, just saying, it can absolutely happen.

This is like... the awful version of when I invited someone I met seven years before to drive twenty-two hours each way to see MCR with me. We hadn't hung out in that whole time, and I kinda half-ghosted them back then. But they drove out to see me anyway, and as bad of an idea as that was, we were even closer than when we first met! But we both went in secretly imagining it would end up like this, and I'd have to ask them to go home from my house after the concert. I'm sending them a care package soon, and I'm excited to see them again this Fall and Winter!

The problem with the dating advice guy seems VERY obvious to me - it sounds like they only talked via text. SO MUCH of attraction and compatibility comes down to voice, mannerism, and conversation flow. I can’t tell you how many dates I’ve gone on where I’ve immediately known I wasn’t attracted to someone based on how they talked/how we talked together. It doesn’t matter if I like their profile or if we had good text convos - actually TALKING is different. But I haven’t flown across the country or asked someone else to do so. If you’re meeting people online that aren’t in your city, maybe try FaceTime before booking the 500 dollar flight.

Its always risky going super far to someone. It’s the lowest amount of effort to just go out to a restaurant where you live and you can dip out and go home whenever you feel like it with no regard for the other person. The amount of guys who offer to come to my place of living from my hometown all the way across the country even though I’ve only shared a couple conversations with them is really strange and concerning and makes me wonder what other kinda high risk behaviors they engage in lol.

I once had messaged with someone a lot for quite some time and after we finally met I almost immediately knew I wouldn't want to meet him again. I stayed the whole time but afterwards we just stopped talking. You just can't feel the vibes when talking through text and it was just weird. I was also 17 and he was 23, so after meeting him I just didn't feel comfortable anymore. So I 100% understand the first girl. I feel like she didn't invite him to visit and probably sensed he was way more invested and intense than her.
