As a trans person it physically pains me to see how we are discussed. We are not a community, we are an “agenda”, we are not individuals, we are an “ideology”, and we do not transition, we merely become “infected”

As a person who ”detransitioned”, you know what would have helped me figure myself out sooner? Some space to explore my gender in peace. And you know who finally gave me that, and supported me through my self-discovery? TRANS PEOPLE. I hate being used as a gotcha against this wonderful community that a MAJORITY of my friends belong to to this day. Transphobes shut the hell up challenge

They really refuse to do any kind of statistical analysis when they talk about detransitioning. The full argument is just "Some percentage of people change their mind about some aspect of the transitioning process, so we shouldn't make it an option to people who want it."

That detransition article is from the Canadian Gender Report and uses data from how many members are in the Detrans subreddit. The Canadian Gender Report describes themselves as a "group of parents and professionals concerned about the medical transition of children, the introduction of gender identity teaching in our schools, and the changing legal landscape that replaces biological sex with the subjective notion of gender self-identity." So a very unbiased and reliable source there

8:20 the frustrating thing about this is that first of all, every statistic shows that theres such a small percentage of people who detransition, but second of all, those statistics show that the main reason many choose to detransition is because of unaccepting loved ones and inaccessible trans healthcare. like most people who detransition would be happier if they could transition without hateful people like this guy in their life, but they cant and so they go back in the closet. and even if this wasnt the case there is nothing harmful with someone thinking theyre trans and then finding out theyre not

Firstly de-transitioning can mean the person can't afford medicine, social stigma, family disapproval and hostility are reasons people de-transition but has nothing to do with if they still feel disconnected from the gender assigned at birth. Secondly the percentage of people who de-transition is rather small.

Speaking as someone who grew up around and used to spout this same conservative nonsense. It’s really just about regurgitating the same three talking points and never ever engaging critically with your stances. It’s exactly as you said, they are comfortable in their complacency. To challenge the status quo is to challenge all the bullshit they’ve been weaned on and not many people want or are able to do that

as a detransitioner myself I think the whole detrans subject should be handled very delicately. I do believe that the population is larger than some trans circles make it out to be, but also believe that it shouldn't be sensationalized or even covered by conservative media. just like transitioners, detransitioners deserve love and empathy - many were trans for long periods of time, years to decades, before choosing to detransition. everyone takes their own journey of self discovery, and it's sad to see that this has become a political issue.

It's so funny to me that they treat transness like a sickness or a disease when tbh (for people who are trans) it's more like a cure when they find out that what/who they are isn't wrong or bad (and also, that it isn't as abnormal as society would say it is). I've only ever found that people who are comfortable with their transness (due to being in a good support network, being in a good environment, not getting hatecrimed on the street, etc) are so much more unlikely to Minecraft themselves, especially when compared to teens who want to bury their gender feelings down as hard as they can to fit in. It's just so dumb. Transness is the CURE bro 🙏

The thing is, it is so easy to just ask someone to explain their sexuality / gender as an example, my 87 year old grandma didn't really understand the lgbtq community, and after i came out she asked me to explain why i agree with it, and just like that she learned something new and now she supports me and comes to me to learn a bit more about the lgbtq and stuff like that

TikTok comedy is so cool cause half the time it just shows me clips of the most racist comedians saying the most racist things possible on a stage and the comments are either "so true" or "we must protect our country"

I used to be really insecure and tried to hide that by being the "funny" kid. And i see a lot of that in conservative comedy lol. Like looking back i wasn't that funny I was just mean lol

It's just like how can they say someone's existence is an ideology?? But then I'm like that's a great way to invalidate, dismiss and legislate people out of existence by making people believe they're not real people just an idea.

Also the fact that people can be misdiagnosed as trans when they in fact just have body dysmorphia or other mental health problems is more of a sign to invest in better mental health facilities and all round support for those struggling with things. Including educating health professionals about dysphoria and dysmorphia and having effective ways of figuring out the difference without invalidating trans people who come to them. And just make gender fluidity more acceptable so people can play around with their identity and expression without feeling the need to lable themselves prematurely out of the fear that they won't be taken seriously if they don't.

There are people who regret STEM cell transplants. Regretting reversible steps in transition is just the nature of medical care ( not to mention that most detransitioners detransition for other reasons that not being Trans)

It drastically drops when a trans person has even one person in their life who respects and affirms their identity. - I’ve been lucky in my life to meet a wide variety of trans people, young and old. Young children (who receive a large amount of backlash) aren’t indoctrinated. Most children who express these feeling don’t even know what the word transgender is. All they know is how they feel and how they want to express. No one immediately pushes medical treatment on them. The most that happens is puberty blockers once their older, which have been used on cisgender children way before it was used for trans children. - Trans people are a very small part of the population, and detransitioners are an even smaller fraction. Gender identity is complicated and sometimes is changes. There’s nothing wrong with detransitioning as long as you don’t weaponize your experience. Unfortunately sometimes it is weaponized against that persons will. I’m almost 20. I’ve been out for nearly seven years. We’ve always existed and we will in the future. This isn’t new, and it will never be new. What’s new is that we’re more visible and more able to fight back.

It always makes me so upset that they use the deaths of trans people to further their own transphobia, as if those statistics are not literally caused by transphobia rather than just existing as a trans person. All marginalised groups have higher suicide statistics. It's the marginalisation part. And god forbid they acknowledge the statistics that show that trans people who are supported by their community + are able to transition to the degree they need have significantly lower suicide and depression rates. Because they don't actually care about any of those lives lost.

While Im not trans, I appreciate you speaking about how conservatives attack trans folks and how they consistently do not want to understand nor show any empathy because they are bigoted.

transitioning is changing things to make yourself more comfortable in your body. "de-transitioning" is realizing you dont like a way you changed things and changing again to be comfortable in your body. its not really "de-transitioning" its just another part of transitioning! and it usually happens because we are told "men look like this and women look like this" and you can end up thinking that because youre trans you have to look a certain way so you transition (without truly wanting to). if we all stopped associating appearance with gender then yeah people would probably stop de-transitioning as much because trans people wouldn't feel pressured (by transphobes/gender-criticals/trans-meds!) to transition for the comfort of people other than themselves in the first place!!!!!!!!! it is literally the people who are so against "the trans agenda" that cause people to de-transition. reminding the trans people in your life that they are who they are no matter how they look, is the real way to help!!! love is love, trans women are women, trans men are men, fuck the binary, wahoo!!! any trans/gender-queer/gnc people, make sure to have some water and take care of yourself! love you

as a trans guy: yeah, we have extremely high rates of suicide, but like why does this guy think we’re doing that to ourselves? it’s not from just existing as a trans person, it is so obviously because of lack of adequate healthcare and an accepting society that it feels almost stupid to have to explain. like you have to stretch your mind so far just to miss the link.

It just does not logically follow that because some people detransition that definitely means that those people, much less all trans-identified youth, were trans because it was pushed on them. One of the only studies directed at people who pursued some form of transition and later detransitioned found a detransition rate of less than 8%, and this study included all forms of transition from just social to full medical transition. Almost none of these detransitioners did so because they no longer identified as transgender, and smaller studies in a similar vein found that the majority of detransitioners later retransitioned when they were more financial stable or had an established support system, or detransitioned because they instead identified as nonbinary and thusly transitioned again in a different direction. Even for those people who do detransition because they no longer identify as trans, that doesn't have any impact on the validity of the trans identity of those who do still identify as trans. That just means that either those people were never trans and they were either misdiagnosed or mistaken or their identity changed or evolved in some way. People who are trans still just are trans because they are. In the rare event that someone was convinced they were trans when they weren't, they still just aren't trans because they aren't. In the majority of these cases in which I've read the accounts of the detransitioner, the person who detransitioned convinced themselves they were trans. I'm not blaming them for that, we don't teach critical thinking and we don't promote youth mental health services, and the limiting of information about transgender identities that had been so prevalent in the past made it very difficult for these youths, their parents, and even therapists and doctors to get a full picture of what being transgender fully entails. I believe a lack of comprehensive sex ed and the media's focus on attractiveness plays a role as well, but you have young people with not nearly enough information about their bodies, going through the phase of life where you start to form your fully individualized identity, being told by ads and celebrities that they need to look and act a certain way to be a boy and a certain, completely different way to be a girl, trying to understand why they don't fit perfectly into that mold, finding information about a specific reason why someone might not feel like their identity is congruent with the identity assigned to them, and wouldn't you know it, that specific reason has a treatment for which they can really only find positive reviews. Of course they would want to cling to that and rush through the process. What I do blame them for is, for the ones that are doing this, blaming a bunch of people who weren't involved in them making their decision and trying to punish other people, some of whom went through years of therapy to figure out they were trans or have extremely severe dysphoria, for their mistakes by helping to deny actual trans people gender-affirming care. You don't hear about people who had nose jobs or hip replacements and regretted it testifying before legislators to try to stop other people from having those surgeries in the future.

The bar for conservative comedy is so absurdly low, so I can kind of understand people grifting conservatives for money. I'm completely lost on why anybody else does it just for fun.

all the talking points about about detransitioning could also apply to my years of competitive swimming. it masculinized my body to the point where i would feel uncomfortable, its reversible but hit me harder because i was going through puberty, and i have a complicated relationship with playing sports 15 hours a week

I cannot express how much of a good influence Jordan and the rest of this reaction content group (Jarvis, Danny, Kurtis, Chad, etc) is for teenagers, the people who need good influences the most. Teens are bombarded with so many people trying to get them to follow their ideologies, and this group shining the light on a progressive perspective of it all is very valuable, and their community is so incredibly welcoming that I often pause the video just to read the thoughts of the wonderful people who share their stories in the comments
