Once again, Reddit is all over the news, this time enraging the fat cats at Wall Street. It's no stranger to controversy and has been so for years. But there's much more to Reddit than heated debates. Its history is filled with human struggles, clashing realities, and revivals. It's a tale that deserves many subreddits of its own. So, for the moment, we'll compress all of its fascinating history in this video. This is Company Forensics: Reddit.
0:00 Reddit - Intro
0:43 Reddit - A frustrating origin
1:43 Reddit - A great complicated idea
4:20 Reddit - Rollercoaster times
7:06 Reddit - Many users, little cash
10:06 Reddit - Controversy, engraved in Reddit’s DNA
11:47 Reddit - Internal chaos
13:49 Reddit - The latest happenings

Love your company forensics series, but you seriously need to work on your enunciation. The last word of every sentence spoken is always a rushed whisper. Which is okay if it wasn't relevant information anyways, but the way you structure your sentences the last word is always the most important. For example in this video, I almost couldn't catch Steve Huffman's name because it was said in a rushed whisper. Same with Paul Graham, he was a what founder? They were there to listen to Graham speak about what? Startups? Starters? Stardom? He invited the reddit guys to pitch their idea at a what? Wine combinator? Wacko baiter? A careful listener can probably tell, based on context, that Graham was speaking at an event on "startups", and Why Incubator is probably an organization Paul Graham built for startups. But the bad enunciation creates this vague sense of confusion and makes listeners second guess everything because they're never quite sure what they're hearing. Sorry for nitpicking, you obviously did a lot of research for this video, but please enunciate your sentences clearly, especially the last word of each sentence. I think a lot more people will like your channel!

I don't use dns (service). it's simple actually, a little bit computer knowledge will do. just need reddit's ip address. but still, that little barries needed to crossed. In which many Indonesian doesn't feel the need to do it. They rather consume hoaxes from facebook, influenced by instagram, or do useless things on tiktok. It's more accessible.

it technically does, but then again, that's literally what happens in the internet daily can't access certain websites now because of internet positif. as if banning access to websites are gonna solve issues with the internet when there are literally tons of free (although not secure) VPNs out there to bypass it. thanks governmetn

Great quality of the video... But you didn't touch on the censorship enough, the issue was kind brushed over and inaccurate.
@elegantbiscuit2771
@elegantbiscuit2771 3 года назад
A lot was inaccurate, especially the part about political censorship. The_Donald was absolutely huge from 2015-2017, even hosting a trump ama. Traffic started falling off in 2017 and they were banned in June 2020, but only after most of that subreddit had moved off platform. At its peak I think it was somewhere around 400k, so 52k subscribers of an offshoot subreddit is very small, almost insignificant in average subreddit numbers, and there is still a very large number of people in /r/Conservative. Conservatives were never banned or run off from the site, the right just got so radicalized under Trump that many conservatives' conduct fell outside of the pre-existing community guidelines for acceptable speech, which reddit has every right to regulate on their platform as a private company. And any action taken against conservatives in other subreddits were subject to the rules and jurisdiction of those moderators. Also ironically (but also completely unsurprising), the free-speech-no-matter-what right wingers were the most active in removing any dissent or objection from any right wing narratives in their subreddits. Conservative views still exist everywhere on the site though. Any of the default and very popular subreddits that are not specifically dominated by left leaning politics will usually have a mix of opinions, and conservatives have still carved out their own spaces. Examples include /r/unpopularopinion (mostly popular opinions under the guise of unpopular because conservatives have a persecution complex), /r/politicalcompassmemes (which frequently both-sides BLM with literal nazis). The reason that they keep getting run out is because republicans in politics and online keep radicalizing into actual white supremacists and/or violent incels, which are now manifesting as real life domestic terror incidents like what happened literally yesterday, 8 dead in Atlanta....

@@elegantbiscuit2771 republican and Democrat are not republican and Democrat. The fact you thing party partisanship still exists shows how naive you actually are. Everyone is out for their own greedy needs, and a bad person is a bad person no matter what label they have. Democrats have shown for decades they're blatant liars that will pander to your feelings through propaganda and media, and then turn around and screw you over when they get your vote, legitimate or not. Republicans show that all they care about, is the money at the expense of the people. They are willing to bankrupt entire economies to build more monetized infrastructure in other areas that benefit them. And amidst all of this, both BIPARTISANLY agree, Americans are to blame for all of it. Now you're meaning to tell me, that you're perfectly content bashing one set of folks, siding with literally the same people with a different M.O.? We live in a post truth world, that said, if you even remotely understand what that means, you should hopefully end up wise to how Arrogant you are. You're blind, and seemingly proud of it. You can't sit there and tell me it's only Republicans who are coming up extremist, when we all know damn well that's a lie. Maybe divulge yourself into more history, because that has much to play into what is really about to happen in our current population.

I'm surprised Digg wasn't more prominently featured in this episode. Digg was Reddit's primary competitor, and for many years was far more popular than Reddit. Arguably, Reddit also copied Digg's model.

Great video but you guys made Aaron Swartz look like a villain while he changed the world. If it wasn't for him information on the internet wouldn't be as accessible as it is now. It was him who made it possible for pancreas cancer to be detected at early development.

@the nsfw part - Seriously?! Does every site on the internet start off supporting sex workers and then kicking them off (re: banning nudity, not the other topic mentioned). Did that ever get reversed or is it still in effect? I did laugh at the "make the world suck less." That's like Google's "don't be evil."
