If decide to attempt this build I believe I will buy a can of spray adhesive and lightly spray the straws before bundling them together once the glue is dry it should be practically one piece, thanks for the video.

Nice DIY - that looks a lot nicer in contrast to the piece of panty hose taped over my Aimpoint at the moment.

I recently got into airsoft and I'm looking for a way to get some protection for my scope and stumbled with this, not only it can reduce the glare but also protect scope from bb. It's very awesome thanks

Update, I played at a field today and the diy kill flash proved that it can protect ur scope from bb. I wish I can upload the pics. This diy proved that it will save $$$

Nice Video, best construction of a "Kill Flash" I've seen yet. It sure beats using a hacksaw like I've seen on another channel when trimmer it to size. Those "Sun Shades" run cheap on ebay. I have (2) two one with and without the "Kill Flash" I found pushing the "Kill Flash" to the rear of the "Sun Shade" a lot better. Thanks for the tip, I found it very helpful.

One way to definitely prevent the straws from coming out is to finish it all off by touching both ends briefly with a hot metal plate to create a weld between the straws. (too much preassure will of course make Ridges that may obscure the sight Picture)

Very clever. I never would've considered that, until I visualized it in my mind. Keep all of the geometry near-perfect...

U a fucken engineer! Thank you, Lots of scopes dont even come with an option for one so your video is beyond helpful! Also you could try spraying a verry thin layer of adhesive to make the middle solid

you can also take pantyhose or some loose threadcount stretchy fabric cut out a sheet and stretch it under your scope caps, works pretty well too. way easier.

Carlos Hathcock “White Feather” Sniper in Vietnam. The Vietcong were terrified of White Feather. White Feather was looking for a VC sniper; saw a brief flash & fired a round. He moved to the area he had seen the flash and found a dead VC sniper. The VC sniper was dead from a round to his head. The round fired by White Feather went thru the VC’s scope into his eye. The 2 snipers were hunting each other. The VC found White Feather first and as he was getting a bead on his kill; White Feather saw the flash from the VC’ scope and fired first. White Feather was highly accurate; legendary status; but firing into a sniper’s scope was called the impossible shot.

Maybe putting some spray adhesive all over the coffee stirrers before putting them in the sunshade, wrapping, and cutting them to shape would prevent them from getting pushed out as easily. You'll just want to clean the inside of the sunshade afterwards but considering you can make several (really lightweight) ARDs out of one handful of coffee stirrers, you can also have one or two backups in your range bag regardless. Smart idea though, I'll definitely be trying it out, if only for the cool-factor : P

The Metal honeycomb screen on the throttle bodies of late '90s and early 2000s GM V6 engine engines is also perfect for this and most pick'n pull's will I give it to you for free if you go get it.

good vid nice build. Never used a kill flash, so my question is likely going to sound a bit stupid. Besides limiting reflected light to straight on would they tend to tame mirage?
@GunsandGearNetwork
@GunsandGearNetwork 7 лет назад
No, it does not really help with mirage, especially mirage coming off the barrel. A sunshade works better for mirage off the barrel but even then not 100%. The do make mirage straps that go over the entire length of the barrel that will stop it but obviously not the mirage all the way to the target. I actually like some mirage because it helps show me make wind calls.

I was thinking of using aluminum honeycomb and just cutting it in a spare scope cap... why are they so freaking expensive. The one for my trijicon tenmile is $100

The smooth/slick surface of the plastic stir-sticks will reflect some of the incoming sunlight, real ARD's have a matte finish to eliminate this.

Dont u think straws would work better than stir sticks?
@backcountryxpeditions655
@backcountryxpeditions655 6 месяцев назад
Straws might be too large and allow a reflection at certain angles. That's the only concern I have. I have a few commercially bought kill flashes and the diameters of the honeycomb holes are rather tiny
