Excellent video for increasing shot consistency. I tell my students not to perform hinge shots, that is, don’t bend at elbow or wrist. Too many variables for the brain to process. Thanks.

Another great instructive video! I have been using this stroke lately and been having more success in keeping my returns consistently low!

Great thoughts on this. Being a former tennis player, eliminating much of the action in the forearm and wrist is unnatural but this makes sense. Still have to incorporate them due to prior shoulder surgery but definitely see where I can do more of this technique as I’m getting some silly errors.

Love your videos. This is exactly what we worked on with my wife yesterday. She has way to much wrist-elbow action. I think her problem is that she doesn't "setup" to receive the ball soon enough. Because of that she plays the ball too far back and resorts to wrist action to make up for the "late" swing. We've focused on the shorter backswing and the proper point of contact and it has helped. But she still needs help in getting ready to return the shot . Any suggestions? As a side note, her backhand is much better than her forehand because she locks her arm (as you pointed out). But she is still late with her shot. Her return of serves (she is left handed) from the even side are all down the line. Not a bad shot if she was aiming for that, but.......she isn't.

I agree especially on the cut shots. I am not consistent enough to try and spin everything. It takes lots of practice.

Follow through is an under-appreciated part of the stroke.

Thank you for your videos. I suffer from a condition that causes extreme hypermobility in my joints. Floppy wrist is a real problem for me. When I try to control my wrist, my grip to tightens and I overshoot. Do you have any ideas for me to gain control of this situation?

Hi Maura. Have you tried using both hands? That is something I am adding to my backhand in part to gain more control over the shot.
