Hello, thank you for this video - we are doing the application for an undergraduate who will be studying abroad but returning for christmas and summers, possibly other holidays. How should we state the number of days that they will be away, since it is not a sustained absence? Also - will returning for christmas, summer, and for example, thanksgiving, be enough to demonstrate continuous presence for naturalization purposes?

Hi, thank you for the information. when you say "continues physical presence" you mean "continues residence" not "physical presence" right? because physical presence is a minor issue as it only counts days within 5 years (you have to accumulate at least 50%), "continues residence", that is the problem. So the re-entry permit does not avoid the reset of the clock if you are absent from the country for one year or more in one trip, right? It only prevents that they cancel your LPR status, right? The form can’t be filed online, you can leave the US once you get your fingerprints taken but not sooner. Depending on your location, there’s a mailing address for each state, check it out in the i131 page in the uscis page

I am still doubtful about the documents that I need to send with my reentry permit. so far I think is: form I-131 copy of passport biography page copy of green card (and my 24 moth extension I just got after removing conditions, mine is based on marriage) copy os social security card 1 passport like photo of me check with the total amount $ is that all? I saw somewhere it was 2 photos... doo you think I need something else?

Hello Maneesha, thanks for all your helpful videos. I had the green card interview and it has been approved and I paid the immigration visa fee. I am coming to US soon to collect my Green card. The problem is I can't stay more than 1 month due to some commitments in my hometown. I heard that it takes more than 2 months to receive the Green Card. What shall I do before leaving US to keep my Green Card affective while coming back to US, probably after 3 months. Please I need your advice. Many thanks.

Hi maneesha , thank you so much for the informative video . I got green.card in 2003 and since then applied for reentry permit 3 times not qualified for citizenship. But since 2018 I have been in usa not less than six months every year till date overall staying for 36 months in 5 years but in 2020ive been in my native country for nearly an year during pandemic . My husband age is 72 years and hence could not take a chance of tranvelling . Will that be considered and will we be eligible to apply for citizenship or will it be considered from 2021

My 2 cents, apply for it. Having the documents in order is a great way of showing customs and immigration officers that you are not intending to abandon your green card. Technically, after 6 months abroad your residency status may come into question when you try re-entering the USA.

Hi Maneesha, thanks for your great video. I have a quick question. Once I submit my I-131, I would like for the USCIS communications including receipt notice, biometrics appointment and the reentry permit to be mailed to my friend's address since we may not be around during the process. Is it OK if I put my friend's address in Part 1? I am worried, because then the "Physical Address" I put on this form will not be the same as the address that USCIS already has as my home address.

I got info from another attorney that we can provide an address of our home country consulate or embassy so USCIS deliver there and than we can collect it from there

Yes, that is really an option to have it sent to the consulate/embassy in your country and then collect it from there or have the consulate/embassy to mail it to you in your country. However, I did not want to do that because I am traveling a lot. I just wanted it to be delivered to my US mailing address (i.e. my friend's place). Most USCIS forms let you list both a mailing and a physical address but this one does not. So, I decided to put my mailing address on this form in the place allocated for the physical address and then I attached a cover letter and explained why I did it and that this is my mailing address and my physical address is XXX. So far, it has been fine and I have received the receipt notice at my mailing address. I will wait and see how next steps go and will let you know whehter it completes without a problem or not.

No, re-entry permits have to be applied for before you leave the country. If the green card holder left the country with the intention of coming back and then got stuck outside for more than a year, they should look into SB1 visas. I would consult an attorney - details matter so best to run your particular situation by an experienced attorney (I am not an attorney, I work in the industry and am happy to recommend a few if you'd like a consult)

Well, you have to go to your biometrics appt in person, which is soon after you file so you have to be here. No proof needed if you are here. Just file from here and that is enough. They'll know if you were not in the U.S. because they know when people go in/out of the country.

@Maham Baig I waited until I arrived in the USA to file, BUT I wish I didn't. Exactly what I was trying to prevent is what happened. I should have just filed a couple weeks ahead of time so the biometric appointment would be scheduled while I was there. Instead i filed when I arrived, and the biometric was scheduled the week after I had to travel again, so I needed to reschedule it.

Hi Maneesha, I had applied travel permit on 01-july-2022 and biometric was taken on 01-august-2022. In October 2022, I left the States and came to my homeland. Now its been 9 months (approx) since then and there is no status change. Can you please guide me what all necessary steps I should take. I had planned to stay for 2 years here at my hometown.
