fun fact: in "labyrinth" the female voice that sings, is singing to the rhythm of "the mind electric" (I say this because in the part of "see how the brain plays around, and you fall inside a hole you couldn't see" hear a whistle that sings the same melody)
Theres also the fact that you can hear the ending melody of the mind electric (some one help me) in labyrinth when the instruments shifts into the vocal portion (its just a game you..)
One thing that I don’t see people talking about: In the mind electric, you can hear a slowed moment of the piano bridge of murders. You have to listen to TME with the glitches to find it though. It’s best found in the second half of the song during the long sequence of glitches.
Dream Sweet in Sea Major is genius, it takes aspects from all the songs in the album, EXCEPT THE MIND ELECTRIC, LABYRINTH AND TIME MACHINE, due to them being in the period that Simon was insane, and probably his memory of it would be cloudy (due to his time in the infirmary nor the way he got out being specified) at least that's how i see it
@@tart4rti sort of a late response, but I believe the demo in question is Demo 4, towards the end there is a verse that has the same melody as Labyrinth.
Another one to mention! In DSISM, after the line “in line before the show began to be where I am,” the plucked strings sound similar to the Mind Electric’s “deliver me and carry me away” line (and all the lines in that song similar to that. The more you notice about this album, the more you can appreciate it. What a masterpiece.
The ruler of everything sampling makes me feel ways i didnt think such a silly song could make me feel. Like goosebumps at such the old callback and tearing up from the acknowledgment of his old works
Hawaii prt2 was such a success it has a cult fan following and people are doing animations and samples to this day of this album almost 6 years after the fact, just a master piece, and the lyrics my god the reverences to some of America's greatest authors in 1 album
Also, the "Keep it coming back, and coming back, and coming back" motif of Variations on a Cloud is a slower version of a motif from "Dream Sweet in Sea Major" (the part just before "to know we are beyond a bow, and lo, the hues arrange to show it's perfectly clear" Less noticeable but it makes the "Keep it coming back" part that much more "nostalgic!"
Also I think the instrumental part after "we'll go together in flight" is a sped-up version of the instrumental before "bye, HI, sigh, Hawaii!" I know that's within the song so not really a "motif," but I never noticed it until I noticed that in Variations on a Cloud, the repeated "keep it coming back" follows the slowed melody
The thing i love about this is i never know whether a song is referencing a previous song or joe is referencing a future song (like the whistle from the mind electric and labyrinth and the "i saw you begin it" at the end of isle unto thyself)
Really small one but the mellotron strings in Isle Unto Thyself at 2:22 play the same upward major triad as the vocal climax of Dream Suite at 5:35 (albeit in different keys). You can also kinda hear a similar string pattern buried behind the vocals at that 5:35 mark.
This album is the best thing ive listened, and things like this bring peace to my soul I love Hawaii: Part II and the little lore people pieced toguether, its the literal highlight of music for me at this point in life!
Here's the translation for the French parts no one asked for: Space Station Level 7: Un ensemble d'enfants (An assembly of children) La galaxie s'etend (The galaxy extends itself) Jardin de l'imagination (Garden of imagination) (you forgot to put this next part in, that's ok though!) Je dois dire bon soir (I have to say good night) Lance-toi et tu vivera toujours se soir (Go ahead and you'll live forever tonight) Dream Sweet in Sea Major: Un ensemble d'enfants (An assembly of children) La galaxie s'etend (The galaxy extends itself) Jardin de l'imagination (Garden of imagination) Combler la lacune (Closing the gap) Roller passe la lune (Rolling passed the moon) Comme nous evoluons (Like we evolve) I don't really understand it, but I don't think Hawaii: Part II is anything understandable. Tell me if I got anything wrong!
French™ here, your translation is pretty darn good but I'd rather translate (and spell it) as that: Un ensemble d'enfants (a group of children) La galaxie s'étend (the galaxy is expending) Jardin de l'imagination (garden of imagination) Je dois dire bonsoir (I have to say goodbye/good evening) Lance-toi et tu vivra toujours ce soir (Go ahead and you'll still be alive until/by tonight) DSISM: (same first 3 lines) Combler la lacune (Fixing the deficiency/improving) Rouler face à la lune (drive in front of/facing the moon) Vois comme nous évoluons? (Do you see how much we're evolving?) I'm not sure if they're saying "voler face à la lune (flying facing/in front of the moon)" Ou "rouler face à la lune" But either way the meaning isn't that far off with the way it's worded.
This might be a weird coincidence, but I’m pretty sure the end of murders is referencing “All or Nothing at All” by Frank Sinatra. The first line of the song sounds pretty similar.
"See how they fall" in Mind Electric sounds exactly the same as "See how the run" in The Beatles' 'Lady Madonna,' which is a song Joe Hawley did a cover of. Listen to "See how they fall" and this back to back ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uLRiGX3L-kw.html
Okay, so I think the goddess is the one who is staging the music murder (or the musical) before he was where he is now (his life) because his life is the musical and musical is basically about the murder of Stella
Awesome! I knew there were more, and I was thinking about doing this lol. Not saying the original was bad! But there are more things and subtle things that you wouldn't pick up unless you listened to it over and over and back and forth (or unless you aren't me and you heard it from the start lol). I didn't know about the whistles at 4:47! Great vid! :)
In Variations on a Cloud, the "keep it coming back and coming back" segment is a pitched up version of the main melody played by the pizzicatos in DSISM's verses and at the very end of the song as well
user ThatBendyFan has translated the french in miracle musical and the realization hit me that one of the translations has appeared in another song of hawaii part ii ! in space station level 7: “LANCE-TOI ET TU VIVRAS TOUJOURS CE SOIR” ( Go ahead and you will live forever tonight ) ‘You'll live forever tonight’ is also a lyric in introduction to the snow, the last line in fact ! thought that was cool and wanted to share !!
I don't think it's really a reference at this point or not, but in White Ball, there's a reverse section in the beginning saying "It's actually fun doing it at this point." A few songs later, a fully reversed song plays. Kinda a cool concept.
Him calling out to someone by saying "Check it out" before showing him saying something in reverse got me to think it's a Mind Electric reference. Lol.
Did you guys know that in fate of the stars is sampled in the mind electric? It’s reversed and very faint though so it may be hard to hear but you can find it in the album version of tme. Pretty cool right!?
Ik this is old and this take also maybe a reach but I feel like labyrinth and the connect well because they both seem to be about regret and desperation I guess. One about pass regrets and desperately getting away from them (labyrinth and the relationship depicted with the sea of regrets) and the other about yk the whole desperate situation the dude in tme is in
With the part around 4:30 the demo 4 has the same tune and they also might’ve been humming the tune of the demo 4 but maybe it was labyrinth this is just my idea
i dont mean to appear as late but you confused leitmotif use and sampling lietmotif use is using the same or similar melody from one song in another song sampling is taking a part of a recorded song and using it in another song
Another reference in Dream Sweet in Sea Major you don't hear about often is in 宇宙ステーションのレベル7 in the french part you hear "tu vivras toujours ce soir" which roughly translates to "you'll live forever tonight" which is also used in DSISM.
