Hi Steve. Do you have a video that shows how to replace the fan on a GE Model 31291-1 Refrigerator. This is a bottom freezer refrigerator. The fan motor is in the portion between the freezer and refrtgerator where the defrost heater is.

Does this part go for older, top freezer Whirlpool models? I can't find the model info on or in the appliance...just "whirlpool princess series" on the outside. Freezer & fan work, just the fan periodically makes loud squeaking sounds like it's chopping up a small rodent. Slowly. Oiling the fan spindle didn't help.

Thanks! I just replaced my fan motor and was wondering how hard should the air blow into the refrigerator section? I feel a weak flow of air coming into the top rear portion of the refrigerator.

Same here and it makes me think that I have something blocking the airflow or is the wiring reversed and causing the fan to turn in the opposite or wrong direction?😊

How to diagnose that the fan motor is the issue? My freezer (top or refrig) work ok, but refrigerator doesn't get cold enough.

I found out my fan motor was not turning .I took it out and cleaned a bunch of heavy residue from the motor.I reinstalled and how ever the fan seems to be running into something that is keeping it from turning ..Is there a certain position these motors need to be sitting at? The fan it self seems to be spinning fine when i pull the main plate back some ..but when i try to bolt it down the fan stops? wtf?help..or am just one of those with the maytag curse?

Fixed it the motor was upside down with the electrical leads to motor facing the oppossite of the ice maker plugin .case closed ...next?

un plug motor then test it ,if you have no tester put current into the fan plug ,I will not tell you how to do that but once you have current to the plug no moving fan time to replace .

Check the operation of the evaporator fan motor. If it is not running when the compressor is on, it may be defective. If it is running and you do not have sufficient air flow to the fresh food compartment, you may have a defrost issue.

Check the seal around the bottom of the door ..the magneticstrip will sometimes aquirre dirt grime and prevent a seal loosing the cold air.Check the freezer fan to make sure it is running .and defrost it completly.restart it.

I may be underestimating myself but I don't think I could do this. My fridge makes a loud loud noise that is loudly heard when I open the freezer door.

Great question, while it is an extra step it is down more of a safety and to take away the possibility of damaging the lamp and lamp cover while the back panel is laying down.

My roper leaks water from the freezer down in to the refrigerator then I need to put a tall glass in the rear to catch the dripping water. We bought it used and it works great, but the water leak drives me NUTS why is it leaking from the freezer into the refrigerator??? Ty for the video

Had the same issue I had to caulk the lower catch area of the upper fridge it was not lining up right ,then it channels the water to the lower evaporator pan .

Update, a little epoxy clue fixed it. Had to clue the shaft solid to the rotating part.

My fridge and freezer has gotten warmer every day over past 2 weeks. Freezer is now 48 degrees F and fridge isnt even cold anymore. Freezer makes a weird noise like theres bees flying around is this the fan or could it be something else??

You need to determine whether the compressor, the evaporator fan and the condenser fan are running. If none are running, check the control board. If only the compressor is not running, check the relay overload device and the compressor. If the compressor runs but either of the fans are not, check that particular fan motor. If all are running, you will need to contact a refrigeration technician.

hi, great video, I need some help. my fridge cools fine but it is getting a chemical smell that permiates into the food over the last 10 days or so. I have read that it is the seals in the evaporator motor leaking lubricant and it heating up. do you think this is in fact the case? it has been emptied and cleaned and the smell never really goes away. thank you in advance.

The evaporator fan motor could possibly cause the smell, but I have not experienced that yet. You could just remove the motor and examine it externally to see if it is the cause for the odor.

That chemical smell could be the oil-based freon that may have been spilled on the coils ..take some alcohol and spray the coils and clean them rinsing them off then wipe up the leftover with clean rags..if anything let it sit out in the sun for a day or 2 till the smell dissipates.

My freezer includes an ice maker. Is the procedure the same except that I need to remove the ice maker first in order to remove the back cover?

You will need to unplug the wire harness to the ice maker and the three screws that secure the ice maker to the freezer wall in order to remove the evaporator cover.

DOES this fan blow out of those VERY TOP vents at 45 sec in??? My Whirlpool Model # ET1CHMXKQ02 seems to let most of the air out the top, not much seems to go to the bottom of fridge.

Hi William, every model would be different on how it would vent the air out. With your model number, it looks to vent from the top.

Seems to cool good now, I think the problem was, the metal backing just need to be tweaked folded back a little so when screwed down it closed up good against the back.

its going to the bottom when u adjust the freezer knob setting ..start at 3 ..then if you want a really cold bottom lower the setting in the freezer to a warmer setting for the top...part of fridge.and work with the temputare setting on the lower part ..7 will freeze stuff almost all the time in the bottom if you like it that way ..I personally try to keep my lower end right at 36 degrees if possible....

if you buy OEM expect dealer prices.Before buying one take some WD 40 and spray the motor in question really good. Take the armature out and make sure it is not covered in rust or slime deposits which tend to build upon the inside between the motor housing and the cylinder eventually stopping the motor...These motors are really tough when it comes to burning the windings ..however, they will eventually burn out if they are not free spinning. You can use the motors from microwaves which will do the same job..just finding the right ones to fit the brackets could pose a headache,, or you could just rewind the one you have if you got a little electrical skill and patience,

Hi Edward, with removing the light it makes it easier when your reinstalling the evaporator cover to pull the wires through the opening and connect them to the socket then it is to try to leave the light socket in and connect the wires to the back because you can’t really see them.

Mine didnt even have a light in the freezer..i guess he was working on the XLmodel..lo
