I don't think I would have ever figured out the retaining clip part without this video. I now have a nice and quiet refrigerator. No more knocking sounds. Thanks for the vid!

Thank you very much, Steve! That was a breeze...took half an hour. The absence of the old fan groaning is music to our ears!

Thank you! I am a pretty handy woman, but that darn fan clip was a hassle, both gtting it off and on. Its the little tips you guys share on these videos that make the difference!

I'm not an expert. After connecting the new fan but before replacing the evaporator cover (about 8:40 in this video), I would have turned on the electric power just for a moment and made sure that the new fan is working properly and blowing air into the freezer compartment. Then I would turn the power off and put the covers back. It would be a shame to put the whole thing together, turn on the power, and find out that I made a mistake somewhere or the fan is defective and the thing doesn't work.

Done! Got the part from you in a few days, fixed in under an hour. The clip was the tricky part - thanks for showing that.

Thanks for the video. I had a clogged drain tube that led to a huge build-up of ice in the freezer compartment of my GE fridge and to water dripping into the fridge compartment. I used this video to see how to take the freezer apart so that I could unclog the tube. My fridge now works perfectly. Thank you!

Word of warning: that fan is harder to get off than is demonstrated on the vid. Both the clip and the fan itself are rarely that simple to pop off. Have done several. Work it slowly, take your time and try a little WD 40. The fan itself is over $10 so it's worthwile to save if you can.

Exactly what I needed. I'm pretty handy at fixing things but this was the perfect video for my part. Quiet as a mouse now. Well, compared to before. The only thing I did wrong was push the fan down too far. Just watched the video again and did it right the next time. Thanks for this help!!!!!

Our Evaporator Fan was making terrible noises with the temperature fluctuating in the fridge section. I removed the unit and found the grommet on the shaft side had partly disintegrated with bits falling into the fan shaft dome that rubbed on the shaft collar inside. I used a safety pin, a wire brush for car detailing and an X-acto knife to remove dozens of bits from inside the dome. That took 20 minutes. The rear grommet was OK, so I swapped front to rear grommets & reassembled everything. The fridge is now back to running without much perceptible noise of any kind and the temperature is stable again.

Thank you for the response! The model number is TBX18JABRRWW. I'll take a look at the grommet, which is a cheap part. I believe the noise is coming from the vibration of the plenum but it's possible that excessive vibration of the motor is causing the plenum to vibrate. As I mentioned, the vibration noise becomes louder the longer the refrigerator runs.

Don't know if it will continue to work. But I will keep my eye on it. My evaporator fan motor completely stopped. Has been for awhile now. I really didn't know what was wrong until I started doing research. But the fridge is about 8 years old and at first the motor would be noisy. At times it wouldn't work. But I got the notion last night to tear it down and take a look. So after doing this I got down to the fan and wiggled it and it started to turn on its own, not strong but a slow turn. So I sprayed it with some silicone and the fan started to turn with great force. I think I will keep a eye on it and if it goes out again I will replace. But it's been 24 hours and the fridge is extremely cold and it's producing ice. But knowledge is power and if it goes out again, I will replace it.

This blows the air down into the refrigerator?

It's no problem at all! Checking into this with your model number, it's actually an extremely common issue with this model, and the most common solution is to change out the grommet. The grommet compatible with your model is # PS284555, and can be found on our website, PartSelect [dot] com. On that page, you'll also see four reviews from other customers experiencing a similar issue, which you may find helpful to read through. I hope that helps!

I think this is the problem with my GE fridge. It occasionally makes a really loud whining noise. I block the fan with the bristles of a paint brush and the noise stopped so I'm guessing this part needs replaced. I'm not super mechanical, but I think I can do this.

would a intermittent screeching noise be a grommet or does the motor need replacement?

Hello! This video is perfect however I am having trouble identifying the part number for the motor, can someone help?
@partselect
@partselect 10 лет назад
Hi there, If you can provide your model number, I can be of more help to you, but in the meantime, it sounds like it could be your evaporator fan motor grommet. This is necessary to reduce vibration noise, by separating the motor from the mounting bracket. When this grommet becomes worn down or detached, vibration noise will increase. After disconnecting power, you can access the evaporator fan to check and see whether or not the grommet is at fault here! I hope that helps!

I have an old GE refrigerator that makes a loud vibrating noise after it's been running for 5 minutes. The noise is coming from the vibration of the plastic housing in which the evaporator sits. When I press on the plastic housing the vibration stops for a bit but resumes within a minute. Any idea on what I could do to fix this problem? I don't think the motor or fan is bad, but I can't be sure. Thanks

I have the same refrigerator as in the video. I can't for the life of me get all the freezer panels to fit back in correctly after a repair. I've tried everything and it's driving me crazy. I can not get both the back panel and the floor covers on in the correct way like in this video. It's like they changed shape while I was defrosting the evaporator coils. It feels like maybe the coils stick out farther after I melted the ice? Does that make sense? Any advice would be welcome. Im goin nuts here.

Hi, I sent a message earlier about a GE refrigerator (model TBX18JABRRWW) with the noisy evaporator fan. I bought the grommet from PartSelect and replaced it, as you suggested, yesterday. When I first started up the refrigerator, the evaporator motor was whisper quiet but today the refrigerator has gone back to a loud vibration as soon as it kicks on. It's definitely coming from the plastic evaporator motor housing. Should I go ahead and replace the evaporator motor as well? Thanks

If the fan blade has become loose or damaged, or if the motor shaft does not turn freely, then they will need to be replaced. Check to see if the fan blade is attached securely and that the motor will turn freely. If the motor and fan appear normal then test it with a multi-meter for continuity.

hI Help- I have GE Frig- icing up - changed defrost motor and also water valve for ice cubes- I don't remember if the evaporator motor is coming on? Would the frig is plugged in and temp knobs are set, should the motor start immediately? If I remove it from frig. can I test with jumps OR 110 current of some type and see if motor comes on ? I'm spending a lot of money right now- the compressor is coming on and running- HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP- HOPE I CAN GET AN ANSWER BY TOMORROW ! THANKS dB

Hi! Sorry for the delay in responding to your problem. The evaporator fan motor should be running at the same time as the compressor and condenser fan motor. You should be able to hear the motor running and also feel air flow into the freezer at the same time. If the motor is running, but no air flow, then suspect that you have a defrost problem caused by either a defrost thermostat, heater or timer. For more information on this repair, visit this page, and good luck with your repair. www.partselect.com/Repair/Refrigerator/Refrigerator-Freezer-Too-Warm/

.My refrigerator is very old, but still kicking like new; except the fan blade just got warped. The spec plate is faded and I can't make out anything from it. I have a fan blade just like the one in the video. Can you tell me the model number for the fan blade you just installed?. Thank you in advance.
