Colombia currently ranks 10th globally in terms of economic risk posed by three or more hazards. The country has the highest recurrence of extreme events in South America. Rapid population growth in poorly planned urban areas, informal settlements, and densely populated coastal areas, coupled with the effects of climate change, are already exacerbating flooding and landslides in the country. Today's interviewee is Juliana Gutiérrez Rúa, co-founder and current board member of Low Carbon City, an international organization and citizen-led movement that builds collective solutions to address climate change from an urban environment. This organization works to promote emissions-reduction in cities, build more resilient and regenerative communities and promote citizen participation in climate action.
