I am a retired mechanic with 40 years of on the job experience. I was an ASE Certified Advanced Level Master Technician with a CA Smog License. I was also certified in several areas of Medium Duty Trucks through ASE. That said I enjoy watching what you do and learn. What attracts me is your honesty and pointing out the pitfalls to your hobby and passion. There is not a prefect world here, problems will happen. Although I am a big fan of leaving my 2021 3500HD L5P alone and simply driving and maintaining it, I respect you for your willingness to spend a lot of time and money experimenting and learning. I am concerned about the 10 speeds longevity and what effects (if any) that over fueling may have on the engines life. This is another reason I watch your channel so please continue to show both the good and the bad and above all stay safe.
JW, I am in DFW, Got a 2001 LB7 that is modded AF. I installed a 4 core aluminum radiator and instead of installing the clutch fan back on it, I took a spare and cut the nut off of the fan so I could retain the belt pulley and just installed a brushless dual electric fan. The original single core ran pretty cool but after I installed a Wagler AFO stage 1 cam, dual cp3's, new bosch injectors with 45% over nozzles, billet turbo, and a fluid damper harmonic balancer..... she revs much faster and smoother so I wanted the clutch fan to not drag down the rpm. Tranny took about $7k to keep it from slipping. Motor has about $18K parts and labor. She gets down but needs work on traction, its 2wd bone stock even tires and rims. Looks like a pretty clean, bone stock 2001 until you set the tune on 5 and nail it. I have surprised many a camaro, mustang , and charger.
I ordered one a week n half ago, got it quick. Really gives it a deeper growl when you smash the skinny pedal. Happy with my purchase. Easy install with a 8mm socket and impact on low.
buy the HP turner hardware and tune it yourself. I did my own corvette c7. Some reading and a couple of hours on RU-vid got my car running better than new and more power. There is a lot you can do besides just adding fuel to get a good tune. Buy a wide band O2 sensor and do real world highway pulls. Easy. Don't need a dyno. Sadly, tuner shops are just chasing that $$$. They simply throw as much fuel as possible so they can please the gullible 'more hp is everything' guy.
The credits are applied to the MPVI2 used to install the tunes into the ECM. When you tune your L5P make sure you buy your own MPVI2. If the installer used his own MPVI2 only he can make changes since the credits for your VIN are locked to his MPVI2.
@@JWMontoya from what I understand, the credits are assigned to your MPVI2 serial number and the VIN of your truck. When you get a new ECM, you need to use the MPVI2 your credits are on to register the ECM to your VIN. Once the VIN and MPVI2 are in line each other again tunes should be interchangeable as they were before. Did your buddy have his own MPVI2 with his original credits applied or did he purchase one afterwards to get the second round of credits applied to it?
I was under the impression you couldn't do a delete with HP Tuners. DD says there can be no DTCs on the truck before tuning so if I have to replace all the hard parts to get rid of codes there isn't much need to delete and after watching this I don't need an more trouble.
I have a 2016 chevy duramax Stock besides a lifted lift kit and big wheels with a 64mm 10 blade on a emissions compliance tune and truck sounds like a jet
I have and first gen l5p and I put on a Gale Banks Big ass air filter, not only does it give more air but I here turbo, everything else is stock, for now. The air box helps me pull my 50 foot toy hauler a little bit easier too.
@@JWMontoya “we don’t like too quiet” there’s good sounding and then there’s obnoxious. Regardless we’re young now but as people age they get tired of it
i went with samedaytuning and their tuning hasn't fixed my cp3 surging i called fleece and sent them over datalogs and told me that they need to add more current to the regulator to tame down the rail surge
@@JWMontoya no, I know this is an l5p video but this is on my lml, I heard you mention samedaytuning and I actually went with them because of your videos but so far their tunes have taken weeks to receive and their tuning revision they sent didn't change a thing.
@@coltonjohnson9413 yep I had to purchase a new ecm. Was an entire fiasco. Truck was down for too long. Ended up getting it going again. Apparently it was a common problem with switch on the fly tuning. So I ended up purchasing 3 independent tunes, and will have to reflash for whichever one I want. I won’t risk switch on the fly again
@@coltonjohnson9413 luckily I still had my factory ecm. Because with todays lack of availability for L5P ECMs, it would be an absolute disaster bricking the factory ecm or not having one. I’m sure the wait time would be horrendous on getting another ecm that you could install in your truck. I’m thankful I still had my factory ecm for sure. So if you have your factory ECM I would recommend throwing in back in and running it for the meantime until you can get a new unlocked ECM
We need to get you on some legit tuning! While we can’t help in the delete department… we 100% guarantee you will experience what these trucks are capable of. Also… none of the issues you have in this video with PPEI 🍻
Kory, I have your tune for my 2015 LML and haven't bought a new L5P because I was unaware you could tune them now. Tell me how I can do this. I am going to get me a new L5P now. Where can I get your tune?
this makes me not want a new 22 duramax :( been waiting a bit for mine to arrive but sometimes watching these vids makes me think i should get a different truck. i just want to have it sound nice and the stock truck sounds way to quiet
How did the ecm come from hp tuners was the tune already on it ? Did u have to do the replace ecm function ? Or just plug it in and flash it and if u flashed the ecm with the original tune it is licensed to the ecm ?
The original ECM are entirely encrypted and can’t be broke, you have to send in your ECM and put in the already broke ECM from HP tuners… if I’m not mistaken.
God Bless you all! All glory to God! Turn from your sins and live for God! Romans 10:9 “if you declare with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God rose Him from the dead you will be saved.”
@@justinb498 yessir. Got the new version installed and haven’t had any issues yet. I try not to switch tunes much tho. Set it to race tune and forget it
@@justinb498 not exactly. I’ve tried doing research myself and seems like ecm can short out somehow when switching the tunes. I just hope I don’t have the same issue again left me stranded without a truck for over a month.
@@Braaapoholic did you have to get a new ECM? pretty sure mine is bricked.. I have an email into both my tuner and HP tuners about it. Just wondering if I'm going to have to spend another 2k on an ECM and credits.
I know Warrant Officers usually be chill af compared to COs and NCOs from my experience but Chief should know better than to be outside without head gear and walking around with his hands in his pockets even if he is off duty or at home.
The draw backs to deleting your engine definitely out way the benefits. I suggest not to delete an to use archoil products in your fuel tank and there oil additives. It will keep your injectors clean an you will regen less and it will keep your dpf super clean
Deleting is way better. Just seen another 2021 catch on fire and get told 9-12 months to fix and no loaners. If you can’t fix your own truck, leave it stock….. I won’t drive a non truck
@@loganfine2826 my buddy just deleted his 21 after it caught on fire. My 15 is getting all wagler and calli parts due to people wanting to squeeze what they could out of a lml. I don’t understand why people try to act like a Duramax will take a bunch of abuse just because it’s a diesel. You still need to build up if you want power.
@@JWMontoya I’m on the Dave Ramsey plan lol all my money from my 3 jobs goes to Roth IRA’s and my children’s future. I also have a paid off 6.7 and never had any issues. That’s ford power baby. You have nice sparklers and lights on yours though 😂 cute
@@Tunanocrust1 Maybe you should try investing in a toilet instead of a 6.7 cuz it seems like you don't have one to shit on. Does Dave Ramsey tell you to watch RU-vid videos for your children's future?
Roth IRA's cap at $6000 a year if under 50 years old 7k if over. No matter how many you have. Also you can't contribute to a Roth if you make more than 144k single or 214k married. 3 jobs not hitting that and buying a 6.7 powerstroke shows you are definitely financially savvy. Different strokes for different folks I guess. L5p is a beast JW
Good tuner....great delete! More power, no more EXPENSIVE emission codes, better mpgs and no more dealing with the toxic cow piss def....since emissions are "california standard " and forced on consumers, california should pay ALL EMISSION RELATED REPAIRS NATIONWIDE!
