You can notice how Reigen acts when he lies, as he waves his hands and tries to overexaggerate. But in the final episode, we see Reigen with his hands in his pockets. His pink tie, suit, and shoes and socks are gone. And all that is left is Reigen's most honest self. It wasn't that Mob never knew about Reigen not having powers, but having Reigen telling him, being vulnerable with him was something Mob needed.

When Reigen said,”This is the true me”, and showed to mob his battered and beaten body, covered in dirt and dust, it hit harder than almost anything else in the series for me. Reigen is the perfect example of a human.

Ngl. Maybe it's because I am myself older now, but for me, Reigen is what made the show, or at least the show's finale, in the end. But once again, perhaps it's because Im also not a schoolboy anymore, but a young adult, one that wants to do better, but somewhat fails, one that doesn't really like who I came to be. Mob's story of self-acceptance and growth is beautiful, but it feels more distant to me now. His story is a story of a teen that still has time ahead of him to be better. On the other hand, Reigen's arc has struck me much more. The story of the person that already formed, that's already an adult, a person that can't just turn everything around on a whim and has to scrape by with what connections and abilities they have. The story of a person that, ultimately, by the modern standards, is at the very bottom of the social ladder, with no family oh his own, no real friends, no respectable and career-promising work to rely on. And yet they showed that, despite everything, someone could still tell Reigen that he is a good guy. And that, ultimately, even though he kept his con business at the end and his life didn't magically transformed, he still had a chance for happiness. That in the end, it wasn't too late for Reigen to be happy. And if we look at all other adult characters as well, it's never late to make the better decisions and have a better and more fulfilling life.

I always read it as Reigen for the first time ever, actually acknowledging outwardly that he is a fraud. It was heavily implied and I like to read it as MOB knowing that it is the case, but seeing Reigen, his role model and mentor, openly acknowledge and accept that part of himself gives MOB the ability to accept himself in the final act as well.
@falsesenpai
@falsesenpai Год назад
That last episode of mob was something special, Reigen desperatly running to reach mob and them playing the first opening and him still failing to reach him was an amazing peak, Dimpels come back to help reigen and the conversation where Reigen finally shows his true self to mob and who he really is so that both can move on to be better
@wombat4583
@wombat4583 Год назад
It's so nice when Reigan openly tells Mob about his lies, not because of the words themselves but the intent behind them. Open acceptance - to mirror Mob's internal turmoil. All those years Reigan put boundaries on himself to that he would appear a certain way to others. It's not a denial that those fears and desires are part of him and shape his actions, but it shows vulnerability which is often a key factor in being honest with oneself and connecting with others.
@wJermell0

God this whole sequence was amazing. I got peripherally spoiled that the finale would be mobs powers going berserk out of his control but it didn't take away a thing. Everyone's arc reaches its apex here and what's great is that even those that fail succeed. Teru uses his powers purely to save people for once and doesn't care if he looks ridiculous doing it. Ritsu finally buries that fear of what his older brother could become and reaches out to him. Several former foes have rehabilitated and are willing to defend rather than trying to conquer. Even...I forget the name, Claw leader guy does the most heroic REFUSAL of a noble sacrifice I've ever seen and tries to be a dad worth a damn to his son. What a great show

I disagree with the very question of 'is Reigen a good person", because I think it's missing the very message of the show. To me, MP100 always had an atmosphere of 'there are no good or bad people, just a bunch of people'. People can do good or bad things, but (save for a few fringe exceptions), these actions do not define them. Mob has literally killed with his powers, but this doesn't mean he's a bad person. Ritsu is shown to have this capacity for manipulation and social engineering, but he himself isn't evil. Similarly, Reigen has made much of his life off of lying to his clients, but he's also an insanely good, kind person who wants to do right in the world. I have a hard time believing that when young Mob came into his office crying, all he thought was 'Ah yes, here's a child to take advantage of'. He saw Mob's struggles and anguish, and wanted to help. He always has Mob's best interests in mind, even though the means to get that often involve lying. This isn't because Reigen is a snake by nature, it's because lying is all he's even known to work in getting things done. Same as how Ritsu starts planting evidence on kids he sees as a 'stain' on the school, to get them expelled, he sees this as playing the game. Mob Psycho 100 is insanely wise, especially in the greater Anime Space, which is usually full of GOOD GUYS and BAD GUYS, who the GOOD GUYS have to convince to be good like them, with their universal truth. What bullshit that all is. Mob is much more human.

@Land Merry_ my point was Reigen, like every character in this show, has good features and bad. There are very few truly BAD people. I was talking about the flashback, not his rampage at the end. I took it to imply Mob had killed those two people, but even if he just badly injured them, my point still stands. Mob is capable of bad, as is every character, as are you and as am I. This does not make any of them inherently bad people.

I really like the idea of Reigen actually deeply caring about Mob so much so that he wanted to live up to the person Mob thought he was. Despite him actually being a con-man, he tried his absolute best to guide Mob and be there for him. In the end it was the exact realisation of himself that led him to confess the truth to Mob and accept himself. It made it even better that Season 2 kept it vague about how much Mob truly understood the situation because in reality we saw in Season 3 that he always knew to some extent but decided to keep up the lie. It was honestly a really beautiful ending. Great video

I never read it as him being a con man in the negative sense, he was always good at reading people but until he started framing it as psychic talent, people often didn’t listen to his advice. He was always bettering the lives of his clients and would even refuse money if he felt like he didn’t do anything to earn it, the pretense might have been a con but he was always a guy willing to feed someone’s delusion if it meant getting them to take the medicine they were refusing. When he meets mob, he has no idea this kid actually has powers or that such a thing is even possible, but he sees the pain of a kid who believes he does and so he gives his advice in a way he believes will be taken. It reminds me of the tv show psych a lot, in that pilot episode Shawn gets into hot water because he has a gift for details that people started becoming suspicious of, but when framed as psychic ability and presented in a cartoonish over the top way, people actually started to relax around him and hear what he was saying rather than assume he must somehow be in on the crimes. From then on he has to meet that expectation he’s created of himself, and often does so in highly questionable ways legally speaking, but despite being a con man he’s innately a good person doing it with good intentions.

Mob Psycho 100 is one of the greatest pieces of story ever written, I have nothing but love and respect for the writer ONE for creating such an inspirational, motivational and heart touching story. I wish more people would look past the art style and experience mob psycho, it's something you'd call life changing. It is a story that can alter the way you view life and want to live your life, it is a story that can have an everlasting impact on you and change your life for the better no matter how cliche that may sound. A one of a kind show and story.

Heyo. It's not a big deal, but I would like to point out that the title of this video could be seen as a little ambiguous. I haven't seen the last season yet, and when this showed in my subscription feed it seemed like it *might* be implying a spoiler about whether my favourite character lives to the end of the show. It's vague enough that I don't feel things have been spoiled really, and I'll come back to watch this video after I finish the show, but you may want to consider tweaking the title so it doesn't feel spoilery at all. Of course spoilers in the video itself are an entirely different story, it's when they're in the title or thumbnail that it becomes an issue.
@wacky1210
@wacky1210 Год назад
I know your concerns, but personally I really love the title and thumbnail, I get how much being spoiled or not means to you so I won't elaborate further, but this video is great make sure to watch it after the show's complete. And maybe the ambiguous title is a blessing in disguise, the people who think it's spoilery and don't wanna be spoiled ant further they'll immediately get that this video contains spoilers of the final season just by hearing the word 'final'

@emailputri4 Год назад
Another thing I found interesting is the fact that they made it clear Reigen didn't know the extent of Mob's struggle. He really had no idea Mob was shouldering so much. Because it's realistic that way. Mob never told him the details, Reigen only knew what Mob let him knew. Yes he has incredible deductive skills, but he was not some sort of all knowing mentor who magically knew everything about his student. Reigen is just a human who, a lot of the times, does mistakes, but it's okay because he tries his best. And that's what makes him even more beautiful as a character. A perfect representation of what humanity is.

This video has been in my watch later since It came out, but I finally finished Mob Psycho and immediately came to watch it. Even though when I was a kid I think I had a lot in common with Mob, and the struggle to improve myself and make friends and be honest is a real one, I think Reigen is by far the most relatable character in the series. The scene in season 2 when he gets a message on Facebook and is so excited that someone remembered his birthday only for it to be from the website itself hit like a truck. Since I graduated high school 5 years ago my friends have slowly drifted away and I’ve been unable to make new ones at college or my jobs. I’m afraid that I’ll end up like that. But Reigen doesn’t give up and keeps going and eventually builds a strong network of people who love and care for him and a place in his city and community. Seeing him admit that there’s a part of himself that cheats and lies, that self sabotages and hurts other, and that he feels like he doesn’t deserve to love himself or be loved by others just… idk I think it effected me the same way it effected Mob. It’s nice to know that we aren’t alone in our emotions, even when it can seem that way. Mob Psycho 100 is definitely one of my favorite shows now, if it wasn’t already after season 2. : )
