I am so happy to have found this channel. I came into the world at 9 lbs, 2 oz., and it's been a struggle to lose weight ever since. My mother heard about Weight Watchers and at the age of 19, I began my first "organized" diet. Since then, I've tried countless diet programs, and am a 4-time visitor to Weight Watchers, which I am following now. I've lost 13 pounds but given my history with Weight Watchers, it's hard to forget that what is lost is usually found, and that haunts me. I am, for the most part, also following a Pegan lifestyle, so lots more veggies, fruits, and lean meats. I am not a carboholic, but I do love carbs every once in a while. I smiled when you asked in this video, "How many books do you have on dieting?" lol Two shelves of my bookcase are diet books, not to mention all that I've read online. Ugh! I'm looking for a way to MAKE IT STOP and I believe that God brought me to your videos to do just that. I can't wait to order your book and I will definitely go through this series with you. Thank you.

I honestly had given up “diets” and beat myself up for decades. I bought the book, opened it, & assumed these Jedi mind tricks wouldn’t work for me. However, having tried it for a few days... I feel free for the first time. I don’t have to constantly be thinking ahead to the next meal. I find that I’m honestly not eating nearly as much just because I’m not constantly feeling half-starved & planning every bite.

THANK YOU! I'm definitely stuck in my head. I've read so much, I know "everything" about diets, foods and what I "should" be doing but even before I start I get super overwhelmed and it ends up with me hating myself for not doing what I know I should do. If I treated my loved ones like I treat myself I would be in jail.

Great job, Dani! I am 71 and have been dieting since I was 8 years old. I know, even though 10 years ago I finally decided to get off that merry-go-round, I can still be enticed by the thought that I SHOULD be dieting. I almost recently fell for the keto fad, but thankfully realized I had done that many years ago with 0 success. Everything you have said I can relate to and agree with. You are a delightful woman!

Im 66 my mother put me on a diet when i was 6 yrs old. She had a restaurant and i would sneak for even sneak some home and hide it to eat later. O have bee n a yo-yo dieter ever since

This came at such a perfect time for me - thank you. Earlier this week I reevaluated my diet mentality with regards to social media and was crushed by what I saw. I had followed a bunch of IFBB pros and women whose JOB it is to look good with the thought of "motivating" myself by surrounding myself with what I aspired to - only this "motivation" has gone on for about four with years negative results. Instead of being "motivated" by what I was seeing every day, I was subconsciously fat-shaming myself by what I was NOT seeing in my own journey. I feel like that is one of the pitfalls of this diet culture we live in - what is marketed as positive can actually detrimental to the majority of people without them even knowing it. So, thanks, Dani, for talking about this. Sometimes we need a nice kick in the rear to get our priorities straight and you do that in such a loving way every time.

I purchased the book and look forward to ditching the diet mentality. I have yo-yo dieted for 40 years and put my body through hell. I’m tired and feel defeated and it is time to reboot. I have always respected you and loved your recipes....let’s get started!

Awesome video. I listened to this book a couple months ago and have fully embraced intuitive eating. It's given me such freedom about food. I'm no longer obsessed with food, nor am I binging on junk food. I don't stuff myself and I honor my body's hunger cues. I have a wonderful husband who has been on a cycle of dieting and then binging for years. He's done keto several times and is currently doing intermittent fasting. I have watched his weight go up and down and up and down. He is constantly trying to get me to watch videos and documentaries that explain why we need to be on these diets. But I am so done with diet mentality. I'm not as skinny as I used to be, but I can honestly say that I am happy with my body. I workout regularly and enjoy lots of healthy food and also give myself permission to have a treat when I really want one. We had our blood and urine tested recently and my numbers are optimal across the board. I'm healthy, happy and full of energy. What I'm doing is working. So how can I get him to stop pushing these restrictive diets on me?

misskellie2 I’m so glad that you have found this new freedom! Maybe have a talk with your husband about where his motivation to lose weight comes from. For every person that diets, there is a core reason that it comes from. The surface reasoning is “to lose weight.” But how we go about it is so telling as to whether or not it comes from a healthy place. It is so much deeper than we realize a lot of times until we stop to explore those feelings and situations that lead us to diet. I hope that he comes to a place of peace in that area of his life❤️

I’ve never been overweight but have always felt the need to change my body. No matter what number I see on the scale or how my clothes fit, I am never happy with my body. Everyone tells me my body is perfect but when I share how I feel they think I’m nuts. I just turned 27 and I can remember feeling this way since elementary school.

Thank you for doing this. I am BEYOND excited for this series! The 3 steps were so impactful for me. For me, step 2 had me jotting down notes of when "dieting" entered my world and it started as early as I can remember when I would overhear my grandmother talking about her crash diets as she struggled with her weight and struggled with her self-worth all of her adult life, which trickled down to her 3 daughters, and eventually to me, resulting in a genetic predisposition to feel the need to diet & dislike my body and my shape.

Hi Pam. Thanks for sharing this... May I suggest that you don't have a 'genetic predisposition' to dieting and disliking your shape, you have a habit of 'thinking' in a way that promotes this. You picked up the story of your grandma and your mom and it unconsciously became yours... THE GOOD NEWS is, we are free to change our stories. Thoughts are optional and with awareness, practice, kindness, ease and forgiveness you can begin to practice a new story. XXOO

A little while ago I watched a RU-vid Video about a girl which talked about her eating disorders and in the moment she talked about her thoughts and her view on her body I started to realize that something is going extremely wrong with my eating habits... I bumped on this series and hopefully it can change my unhealthy (like I realized after watching the video) eating habits and become more self aware of my own body. In celebration for this video I ate breakfast today... That's literally a big thing for me :D

I ate intuitively my whole life and was always 5-10 kg overweight, thinking “oh, I guess that’s just the weight my body wants to be at”. Was never into junk food, made all meals from scratch and ate until I was full. In the last six months I lost 15kg counting calories and I’m happier than ever! It wasn’t hard, I don’t feel deprived and I’m finally looking the way I’ve always wanted to look. Intuitive eating is at odds with our food abundance, sedentary lifestyle and our food culture (I’m not American, but even over here serving sizes are larger than they ought to be). Obviously making yourself crazy over anything and running after pseudo science fads is unhealthy as well, but counting calories is simple, straight forward, and it works no questions asked. I’m kicking myself that I didn’t do this 10 years ago...

Great video, Dani! I won’t tell my age, but the only “diet” I’ve ever done was Eating for Life. I was working out a lot at that time. I don’t like diets and am grateful that my mom taught me at an early age how to eat well. However, I do enjoy some things I shouldn’t eat, but always in moderation. 😀 If I notice I’m gaining weight, I take a look at my habits and just cut the junk a little to get back on track and feeling good.

I just came across your channel. Good stuff. This series title stuck out for me. About 5 years ago my DO told me that people fail at diets, but succeed with a healthy eating lifestyle. I had trouble with eating when the love of my life was diagnosed with colon cancer and passed away. Really threw me into a dietary tailspin. So, I'm getting myself more in line with healthy eating. Your positive, upbeat presentation is most welcome.

I am so glad I found your channel. I have been searching for not simply a diet but a life change. I ate completely vegan for nearly 3 years and it really aggravated my psoriatic arthritis and hormone levels. Gained weight and felt terrible. Have been keto for about 2 months. Actually have felt really well physically but, it turna into a diet when you have to worry so much about not putting anything with sugar or carbs in your mouth. So...as of yesterday as my husband was going to buy some local freah corn on the cob, I decided enough! I want to just focus on eating whole healthy foods a majority of the time and not feel beat down if I do decide to have dessert while out and about. I no longer want to associate myself with the food I eat.

My biggest feat w/letting go is I’ll continue to eat more of the wrong foods and gain additional weight. Working on changing my mindset and listening to my body. Thank you for doing this!

Hi Dani, I want you to know you have a uruguayan fan!. I started dieting when I was around 10 or 11, and I only stopped until recently, Last year graduated from college and one thing I remember from the day I presented my tesis was that I did not allowed mysef to eat any food that day because I wanted to look 'good' for the pictures. Your videos are amazing, keep up educating more people about nutrition and health.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for doing this series. I am 43 years old and have been on every kind of diet since I was 16 years old and you know what...I am still overweight and don't feel good. The diet world is truly a money making business. They need people like us to diet, fail, and pay for the diet again because we say, "It worked the first time, I just have to have better will power". I am beyond ready to give up diets and start nourishing my body to FEEL better.

Thank you so much for doing this series. I am reading the book and am looking forward to following your series each week. Even though there are so many comments about how this did not work for others, I am diet weary from thirty years of diets that I can’t stick to because I am constantly weak and hungry or bored to death of eating the same things over and over. The unending chatter in my head about every food, what to eat, when to eat it, how to eat it, and beating myself up because I had a piece of pie on my birthday is robbing me of time I could use to do something worthwhile or even fun! I am ready to get off the diet roller coaster and start being as kind and compassionate to myself as I am to others.

I was really moved when you talked about pregnancy motivating you to really take care of yourself. Motherhood is the most beautiful thing on earth. So great. I had just about started the process of listening to my body and reconnecting with my hunger for the first time in about 18 years when I found your account via the meal prep videos. I actually believe that this will be a turning point, and I hope to never teach my daughter to obsess over food the way I have. It is such a waste of time and life. Omg, I totally feel what u are saying. Only after 2 pregnancies and a nutritionist guided weight loss I started changing my mind on diets. So many things that u are mentioning as intuitive I started doing naturally after seeing that I can lose weight by actually eating clean most of the time. But this only after 15 yrs + of dieting and not being staisfied with my body. Although I now know how to eat healthy w/out actually dieting or restricting kcal, I oftenly find myself counting kcals again or wanting to lose weight again. My biggest fear is that no matter what I will not be happy with any number. So I need to work on this, to detoxify from numbers and kcals and negative body image. Thanks for doing this serie of videos. They are sooo useful!

This is fantastic for my back surgery recovery. I’ve had 2 surgeries in the last 13months. I’m on many pain meds, only able to move short amounts & have put on 30kilo’s in the last 24months. It makes me feel sad & like a failure. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and loving energy. Pxxx 😘

I used to be obese. I started to lose weight more than a year ago. The process was hard but I knew that I wanted to do it right, and I did. I ate 1500-1700 calories a day (sometimes less but it wasn't on purpose) and I exercised 5-6 times a week. After losing 30 kilos, I am merely 8 kilos from my life goal. That's when it all went downhill for me. i was so desperate to loose these last few kilos and it has gotten so much harder (mentally) to focus. Truth be told its depressing. For the past three months my weight is fluctuating due to extreme dieting and binging and to this day i haven't lost a thing. Thank you so much for this, I know that many ppl including myself needs to hear this kind of dialogue. I need to be kinder to myself. I need to love myself and understand that I have worked hard the past year and I did make a positive change.

Wow.....game changer! I never thought about diets in this context before. I've been doing Keto and losing weight on it but I feel so torn....I'm losing weight which I'm happy about but the diet is all consuming of my life and very restrictive plus it seems so unhealthy 😒😞Everything you are saying makes so much sense....

I'm so glad you are doing this series! I read this book a few years ago (I'm pretty sure I have read everything out there). I am currently bouncing from TrimHealthyMama and Weight Watchers. Then the weekend hits and any "progress" vaporizes. So tired of the diets that say they are all about food freedom and then back up that claim with rules to follow.

Hi Dani, I enjoyed this very much and look forward to the rest of the series! A few months ago, I felt the urge to get serious about dieting again, but then I realized I just don't I have the strength to keep fighting against myself. I recognized years ago that the battle against my bulge is very destructive and creates a rift between me and those I love most, so my aim has become to sit down and eat with my family and enjoy the food we eat together! Since doing that, I've discovered that we all eat a lot more healthily since I'm preparing the same thing for the whole family, desserts and all! Yes, it's a bit of a rocky road, but one I think is worth traveling because my children are watching and they need a mom that models health to them, in every area.

I LOVE this video! I had an abusive childhood and was put on diets starting at 8. Even though i wasnt big. All my life i put my value in the number on the scale. Ive bee. A yo-yo dieter since i was little and this video is my ah ha moment. Thank you so much!

1) Conversation with myself: I made myself feel very guilty if I could not follow a diet. I felt really broken when all the hardships did not lead to anything. 2)Past relationship with dieting: •could never stick to one •unsustainable •hard to fit into life •thought about food all the time •Anxious about breaking habit •never worked •Overate because I thought it's a last chance •Felt guilty •Felt really hard •confusing and stressful •Learnt about it from youtube when I gained weight as a teen. Dad told me to eat less lest I get obese (He just advised) 3) Detox: done :D

I started intuitive eating a month ago and since then turned to a mostly whole foods plant based diet and oh my god my mental Health feels so much better already. Im no longer fighting my body, trying to meticulously count calories or other nonesens. I used to fail every diet on the third day or so. I used to be so stuck in perfectionism that if my day wasn’t going the way i had planned i’d go crazy and binge on everything cause the day was ruined anyway (or so i thought). I used to crave so much sweets. Now i follow my body, today i ate dried prunes , (my new favorite snack) maybe a bit too much of them and you Know what? I enjoyed it and im not feeling guilty at all. I did’nt skip dinner in order to make up for the extra calories, i did’nt feel deprived and i’m learning that its okay. Im a human being and i have the right to enjoy myself. I managed to lose 10lb this last month without feeling deprived. I’m never going back !

Thank you so much for doing this. I am not a dieter at all I hate the idea moreover. But I have been going through a lot of confusion and frustration maybe regarding food for about 2 years now. I really want to be healthy, nourish my body and connect with myself but I really don't understand what I should be eating, when , how, where. It's like there is so much information as you said that I just don't understand what is right and what's wrong.

Thank you for sharing this information. For me, part of my journey, has been to stop making "diet" a bad word. A diet is the food you eat. The danger comes in when you are eating in a way you can not sustain for a lifetime. As I move into a more whole food, plant based diet, I find I feel better in my body, and about myself. I am learning to listen to my body more and to society less. I am a ballet dancer and teacher, there is a constant bombardment of being thin/small/petite in the dance world, especially classical ballet. It's been hard for me for the past several years, since I had my daughter, to learn to love my body. I'm not quite there yet, but I'm getting there. Thank you for sharing this information, I am hoping to learn some principles I can apply to my own life.

As soon as I heard you mentioned doing this series, I knew it was for me. I got both books to learn more about it and myself. I grew up hearing about dieting through my aunt and my mom. Mostly my mom though. I am obese according to the bmi chart but that started happening since I was a kid. I had a seizure when I was 1 year old. So I was on medicine for years and slowly got bigger even though I was a very active kid running around. My parents and I believe that the medicine was the cause that started it all. When my mom was younger she got addicted to diet pills but lost all her weight and now she has MS and still to this day she thinks shes fat and needs to lose weight even though shes underweight. I have done weightwatchers and it worked when I started but then I stopped cause I didnt want to pay anymore. Overall, I feel like I need this for myself because I am in the mindset that I dont like how I look. I do want to lose weight so I can be healthy bmi-wise and no longer obese. I am hoping that with this and changing how I feel about myself. Might get me there even if it takes years.

Thanks for sharing this new project videos, very interesting, revealing and useful. You just described ALL of the problems I have with relationship with food, diets, mentality. I'm always tracking macros, worrying about food, meal plannings, it's very exhausting and time consuming, plus difficult for my family and social circle to understand it or incroporate them to it. I've used IIFYM and then followed to Flexible Dieting, which allowed me to incroporate 80-20% healthy and not so healthy food respectively, but still, I have to track macros and meal plan. I was planning on following to the next step, and I think I found it in intuitive eating. You're completely right and true, I wil continue watching and following these videos/series, you have all my support, love from Mexico!

When I was in my early twenties, I was very thin. My husband at the time had gotten into exercise and took a mail order course in nutrition. He started commenting on my little belly and while it was subtle, it chipped away at my self esteem. I turned to Susan Powter (I might be spelling that wrong). The only benefit I got from her books and philosophy was I learned how to cook. But that was the beginning of a long history of never feeling enough.

Just after starting meditating with affirmations about beeing good to me and embrace my soulmate, my body, I start finding these videos and the mentioned book. I'm dieting started decades ago as I was about 12 and I learned to hate my body more and more with every "failure" I found mor peace as I started to make my own clothes, because shopping as an overweight person is a nightmare. You can find potatoesacks for a ton of money but nothing pretty and sexy - just huge tentlike rags. Four years ago I started with fasting and Keto/LC because I was having huge health problems and wanted to get rid of them. In that process I lost 25kg as well - nice bonus - but the moste important thing was, that I got rid of my health issues. Now I'm starting to include more whole carbs again and want to learn to trust the wisdom of my body - boy, that's harder than I thought. When you ruled your body without sense - only with willpower - for decades, developing trust in your senses is kinda frightening. But finally I want to be at peace with myself and now going on this journey to a better life.

This was like a breath of fresh air. I can relate so much to this. In my mind I'm and trying to get out of the diet mentality and diet culture. Right now the Keto diet is all the rage and I feel it is too rigid and draconian. I like the idea of eating intuitively . Looking forward to this series!!

I am looking forward to this Adventure! I started a diet when I was younger but not on purpose since about age when I was sick a lot which caused me not to be able to taste food and so I stopped or never really started eating unless I was forced to ( I remember having a hard time understanding why people could sit down and eat with Gusto 3 times a day or more when everything tasted the same... I could drink a glass of straight lemon juice and a glass of sugar water and only thing I could tell you was one was yellow one was clear) when I was 11 I had my tonsils and adenoids out. I was told that hospital food was nasty and what was the first thing they gave me was to eat " the cold brown stuff" ( which other people called chocolate ice cream) lyrics to say my mind was blown exclamation point I cannot understand why people would think hospital food was nasty. I thought it was great I'm like regular food on the outside did not want to leave the hospital I'm leave the food that had flavor. I did not realize that everywhere people could taste the food and not just in the hospitals and again I was only 11. But then I started to eat and my mom did not control how much I ate I gained enough weight to it healthy then I got a small tummy pooch ( I remember being proud of having a tummy verses seeing my ribs all the time but I didn't realize at age 11 that fat was like rabbits and it multiplies so since then I've had eating issues and many diets of all kinds but you try to explain that even though you are obese you have in mind of an anorexic people don't believe they're fat girl so all my life I've been trying to figure it out how to have a happy balance with food because of not eating when I was so young I don't know when I'm full or hungry but I look at the play and go how much I actually fits in your stomach so you're not overheating still trying to get that one down thanks for listening and hopefully this will give me the key to the door of "healthy relationship with food"

Looking forward to watching all of these... i used to think I knew what healthy eating meant for me. But now I am so conflicted due to information overload.... vegan, vegetarian, paleo, Keto, gluten or no gluten, dairy or no dairy... and it goes on and on! I’ve lost touch with what makes my body feel the best 🤷🏻‍♀️

In all my many years of trying different diets it never once occurred to me to think about nourishing myself. I never got that message from anything I tried, it was always presented as a way to lose weight.

Good video, lots of good advice. I have heard it said that we get healthy to loose weight, not loose weight to get healthy. I think different people have different gut flora which affects what they can eat and still not store fat. Different eating patterns work best for different people. Didn't say the word "diet" !!! Love your videos!

I have issues with feeling that I might lose control. Even though I have a healthy weight I still have the need to see a nutricionist every month; I am afraid of not having the knowledge to create my own meal planning. Thanks for the video, so useful 😊

I literally just started following my intuition when it comes to food... it's really difficult to think abt ur meal in a non-caloric way. I've been switching diets then binging since the age of 14 , but this video and everything u said are really helpflul.... I guess I'm gonna watch and rewatch it for a while

I’m on the opposite side of the spectrum. if I eat intuitively and listen to my body I don’t feel the need to eat at all and therefore hardly eat anything... interesting stuff though, hope this will help a lot of people.

They say, it all starts in the brain. I snack a lot and when things are explosive I will EAT. I usually don't think about what I am putting in my body when I am eating but I do know I love to eat sweets and salty foods which are horrible to eat. Hope this series will help me out. Thanks!

I just recently discovered Intuitive Eating and I’m loving it! (I’ve been binge watching all your videos) I love the freedom it brings and the awareness I’m growing to have with my body. Here’s my problem. I have adrenal fatigue and blood sugar issues. I’ve been on Keto since November which makes me feel way better. I would love to be able to let go of all diet rules and just eat, but I’m afraid of not being on Keto and feeling like junk again. Any advice? Keep doing Keto? Switch it up? Thanks!! ☺️

Finding a way to eat that works for your body does not have to mean you are following rules... it simply means, you are listening to your body and honoring what makes it feel best. You can give it a label (ie keto) or not - but whats most important is that you are not following external rules in spite of your body. What you are describing sounds to me as if you are finding a way of eating that makes your body feel good... thats what we want to honor, make sense?

I think the thing that gets me most is when someone who is overweight and goes to the doctor to get help, most doctors say go on a low carb or low fat diet and reduce the amount of food you eat. I even had a doctor tell me i was lying when i told him how little i ate every other day. He said the only way to gain weight was to eat too much. He and i parted ways after i informed him he was firesd and i would find another doctor. I made sure the waiting room that was filled heard me. The first time i heard this from a medical "professional" was when i was 16 and only topped the scale at 125 pounds. I was only 5'3". I finally gave up and started eating once every 3 to 4 days and one simple word describes my issue now....malnutrition. i have just recently been diagnosed with diabetes but as i had even gotten to a point and still am only eating every 3 days or so one meal. The readon is 2 parts, firsti eat about 1/2 of a kids meal size meal. Second, i simply forget to eat. Please remember that malnutrition is just that, large or just skin on bones or anywhere in between, if we are not taking in the what our body needs and make sure those foods are good for us....then we are mal-nurishedperiod.

I am thankful that you are doing this series. I have been on Weight Watchers for a year now and have lost 30 lbs. this is not the first time I have been to WW, but it is the first time I have been this successful. With that said I feel like I am tired of the tracking, and aggravated that foods I think are healthy are high in points. And now am taking off and putting back on the same few pounds. I bought the book and do believe that this IE is going to be beneficial for me. I am a bit afraid that the weight will start to creep back on, so I am nervous. I do believe that WW is a good program, as the weekly meetings are like therapy. The problem with the plan is clearly stated at the back of chapter 5. At times I have been really hungry and even my weekly points were exhausted. They do have a plan for what happens when you are in the negative numbers, but it involves cutting back on the daily allotment of food. I am looking forward to reading and understanding this information in order to help me learn to be attuned to my inner cues. Thank you so much for your willingness to help!

Deborah Narendorf I too was on WW and lost 90 pounds, but have since gained 30 back. It was an awesome program but I also hate how the food I want to eat more of, like healthier fats, are super high in points. It's like the system is stuck in the 50s when fat was bad. Nonfat things are so unhealthy, so I finally stopped WW. It got too frustrating to try and sync all the facts together. I'm hoping this will be more effective for me, learning how to teach myself how to take care of my body and not just deny it. Learn to enjoy the process. I hope you do well too :)

Deborah Narendorf At this point it's my goal is to make baby steps. For now, it's mostly just trying to make sure that I get enough rest and water throughout the day. At the same time, trying to remember that I can eat what feels good for my body, just maybe not as much as I did before. I know this might be a longer process, but each step that I take the time to get down will stick with me long term, and then I can enjoy the process instead of stressing about everything at once. I feel like I have a little more control that way. I guess the whole thing, like what Dani was saying, is to make the process joyful and kind, and learn to love ourselves again and just to feel good, not stress it and try and cram ourselves into a mold that other people have told us we need to fit into in order to be beautiful. My husband tells me all the time that I'm beautiful, but I feel bad because I don't believe him. It's been programmed into my mind that I'm fat and if I don't look like those gals on the TV, no one could think that I'm beautiful. But when I treat my body well, I do start to feel better about myself. So I just want to learn how to feel beautiful in my skin again, and to change my perspective of weight loss from wanting to look good to just wanting to feel good. Like she was saying in the video, let the weight loss be an afterthought, not the whole goal. That's what I got out of it. What about you?

I find having a mentality that revolves around not looking at myself as soft or fat, like I will end up that way because of age, gravity etc helps. I can't stress enough how attitude can change almost anything. Get back on track and enjoy the ride. Remember, the spiral effect works both ways, something a lot of people forget.
