El Salvador is such a diamond-in-the-rough, absolutely gorgeous country which boasts perfect waves, luscious jungles, Mayan ruins, yummy food, incredibly kind people, and almost 200 potentially active volcanos!
Joel and Alina were watching the World Surf League short board El Salvador competition on TV and thought the country looked stunning and had awesome waves, so we checked out ticket prices and, lo-and-behold, they were ridiculously cheap! We immediately jumped on the opportunity and booked a flight for September, 2023. We later found out that the tickets were so inexpensive because, after a horrible civil war and consequential gang activity, the government has heavily cracked down on crime and is now actively promoting tourism to get the country back on its feet. So, we were happy to tour!
Fun fact: El Salvador is also one of two countries that uses Bitcoin as one of its official currencies (along with the US dollar). And a dollar will get you far with their delicious $1 per pupusa deals!
