I think the piston is just a regular piston Also, the pipes are the pipes we already know, attached to the wall via the "Cylindrical Column", but the reason it look different, is because it features a new pipe shaped conveyor cap.
I agree on the piston part and the conveyor part of this, that piston looks a little screwy in the picture but its just the vanilla one that’s at a weird angle
@@admiralStar007 there are some textures differences. Looks at the grooves we can see on the telescopic part that you don't have on the classic piston. Plus the base is also with a different shape and texture.
I launched the game up and just took a look at the piston, put a large mag plate on, default texture and color and looks exactly the same as the picture, so nothing special there.
I'm a 600 hour novice player who still just mostly builds ships that have all the needed functions without remembering to leave room for non-essential flourishes. Hopefully these new blocks encourage me to learn how to be a little bit more fancy :) Maybe Zer0 could make a video on the subject as well
My imagination is only sparked by building functional and practical things unfortunately. I wish the cosmetic blocks were more than just cosmetic so I could make something that is exactly as functional as it looks and not just feel like I'm wasting time.
Thanks for the video, - I've been out of the loop with SE for a while and missed quite a few bits of information, so this is quite useful to have it all in one place! I think that piston at the end is just a small grid piston, the perspective and the fact that beam blocks look very similar in small and large grid makes it appear larger. Really looking forward to the update.
Promise you modders are gonna turn those pipeworks blocks into reskinned conveyors with a quickness. Probably the willis ducts, too. The top mounted camera is the one I'm most excited for, as I play primarily in first-person locked servers so cameras are essential, and it can be difficult to make cameras look good when they have to have a full block/slope behind them. This allows for just slapping one on top of existing armor instead of having to work it in, which will help streamline some builds. That, and the bike cockpit for making speeders 🤤
I mean, they can't release it on the 27th obviously, since it wouldn't be a surprise anymore they also cannot release it on the 20th, because it's clear they cannot release it on the 27th, so if they released it on the 20th it wouldn't be a surprise either nor can they release it on the 13th, because once again, it wouldn't be a surprise because they can't release it on the later dates (as pointed out so clearly in the points above) conclusion: they won't release it at all, this all was just an elaborate prank supposed to divide and conquer. conclusion 2: I am so smort
Hey Zero, The pipes mentioned at 8:50, they are not new, but if you look at the 6way conveyor, it has round caps on it, i think thats what they are showing you there.
I think “Willis Ducts” is a play on the Star Trek technology known as Jeffery’s Tubes. They both serve the same purpose in the same way, and have similar names.
On the pipe conveyor blocks from the industrial dlc: they seemed to have conveyor caps as well on their exposed ports, so maybe theyre featured to demonstrate that conveyor caps will be for all types of conveyor including the DLC ones.
This update feels like it brings a bit of slice of life to detailed builders, I know Ive gone and made my own server racks, vents, and even have been using the piston heads to cover up the ends of pipes. But a lot of these feel like they hold a bit more purpose than just cosmetic. Like the top mounted camera for example, thats a pretty useful block ao you dont have to put a camera on the front face of a turret or vehicle (Aka: the place that will 100% get shot at). And it means you dont need to use hinges and small grids to have a safer camera position
At first glance, it seems to be just another camera block, but you've brought up some excellent points about placement. The next logical request would be to have the ability to adjust the orientation of the camera view. Say you want to use this top-mounted camera as a security cam on the ceiling of a hallway. It would be great to be able to flip the camera's view vertically.
Willis Ducts... named for their most common adventurer, Mr Bruce Willis. Also known as Jeffries Tubes in honor of the late Matt Jeffires who's original concept sketches were used in the creation of the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701
I’m just excited for the entire update. I really hope it comes out the 13th. The most exciting thing for me is the grid AI. So many ideas to automate mining and space recon
@@Misfitkid626 I'm not being negative. The beta of automatons update already has been released. Just wait and see. If you want automate mining, there's a lot of scripts in the workshop working better than vanilla. Keen Software is very busy wasting the Space Engineers money in non related projects.
@@TheRVenson ok do that needs to be worked on and should be noted by KSW. And I’m glad you told me, I’ll find other uses for automation with this update until it’s fixed 🤷♂️ I’m just excited for release of this update. Much needed imo
Kind of looks like a normal piston TBH, that said a small grid 3x3 version would not go amiss, that and a 3x3 version of the basic rotor would finish off all the variations of piston, rotor, hinge types and make the small grid uses better than the flimsy 1x1 versions we have for now.
Don't those pipes on the right hand side feature another round conveyor cap, specifically styled for pipes? It may be a retroactive addition to the Heavy Industry DLC, which is a thing they've done before and I encourage them to continue doing (ie: completing the hallway blocks variant sets some day).
Just little idea. We have oportunity this update gave to us. Von Neumann drone. Now you can try, engineers, i challenge you. :) My idea is to build "queen". Platform that slowly travel on flat surface without obscales. (Desert, maybe?) and mine from surface. Process material, and build variety of drones. It dont need magnesium for ammo, kamikaze drones can defend this platform. There can be drones for collecting destroyed drones and enemy ships. And if possible, im not sure how hard it could be, after some time it can build another "queen". Boom, self replicating drone swarm on surface of planet. Now it can be much easier than ever. People tried to do something similar, but not all people can spend hours programming in C++ for simple script. :D Now we have awesome tools. Lets build self replicating drone swarm. :D Largest problem i see is gathering materials and energy for drones. Maybe make another mining platform on lake, that act like fuel station for drones? Solar energy is not strong enough. Maybe some charging dock. :D my brain cant stop thinking about that. This update gived us oportunity to create literally autonomous drone swarm that can dominate server. :D
I'm guessing the "Willis Ducts" is a Star Trek joke, for they are called "Jefferies Tubes" on the shows. They were named for the Art Director on the original Star Trek series Walter Jefferies who was responsible for designing the Enterprise, its bridge, and then the sets like corridors and the infamous access maintenance ducts. Maybe the Willis is a reference to Bruce Willis clambering around in the ducts in the first Diehard movie?
The quote, “Come out to the coast. We’ll get together. Have a few laughs…” from the movie Die Hard with Bruce Willus was used in the caption for the Willus Ducts news update from Keen.
The Clang sign seems to have solidified that Clang is officially recognized by the devs, and begins with a C, not a K. And I'm totally putting the explosive danger sign on my bathrooms.
what i'd like to see is large block weapons having a "camera" built in to the damn gun, the railgun has a scope design on the fuckin thing so it might as well act like it. so that you can use it in the turret blocks. Also what I'd like to see with the new programmable blocks, is have keen implement a "framework" idea that can run them all in parallel so you can have 1 programmable block just run all the scripts with their various triggers defined
Are they called Willis vents due to Bruce Willis crawling in them in Die Hard? I hope that they bring back the cargo access on the industrial refineries with this update.
I found out today if you take an assult cannon and place a rotor 90° on the bottom of it, place a pillar and a side mounted camera you can rotate the camera practically into the barrel of the cannon making it very hard to shoot out and very good for aiming. Side note if you place the camera and gun right you can use the gun sights on the cannon. Alternatively you can get pan and tilt camera mod and place the camera pretty much anywhere you want in/around the gun.
You have a queston mark on Willis Ducts, I can't confirm this but I assume it's a referance to Bruce Willis who famously used the Air ducts to get around the Nakatomi Tower in Die Hard. I'm curious if they're going to be a full human height on their side, there might be a way to use them for short narrow hallways if you can.
Yeah, I knew it was a Die Hard reference but I wasn't sure if that was going to be the final name for the block or was just what they were calling them for the teaser.
The pipes just look like normal pipes except with new caps added to them, you can see they're normal pipe junctions except you can't see the yellow parts because they're covered with the round cap.
so the conveyor pipes are not new but there is a new block there thats covering the ports so it looks like the conveyor cover comes in a circle variant too
Been waiting on a breakdown of the PS preorder vid, knew someone was going to look at the new blocks teased at the end, thanks for the vid! If the update is released on a Thursday, do you think it will be the previous Monday or so that the release is announced? Or will they just drop it with a day or two of notice?
Warfare 2 had a series of teasers leading up to release, and we've only had a few so far. My guess would be we'll know even if there isn't an announcement. However, Most Wanted literally just dropped with no warning last time so who knows 🤷♀️
The indusreal pipes in the bacround of 8:29 seems like it has a new convar cap varent for the industrial pipes, and it looks like a new industrial pipe varent with yellow tanks of some kind
@@Zer0sLegion Look at the light attached to the face, that gives you some scale. It is definitely a small piston, if it is a new one or not I have no idea but I think that piston and the rail it is attached to are small grid.
If those Willis ducts are airtight they could be used as makeshift airlocks, you could flip them sideways and replace your airlock doors with them. If they're not airtight they're going to make pressurizing ships a nightmare. At any rate I'm legit excited about the vanilla full block Airvent. If it has conveyor connection on both sides I'll have to redesign so many of my ships but in a very good way.
