Remakes Are A Good Thing (In Theory) 

I do believe that the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection is the perfect example of exploitation of nostalgia; Nintendo didn't even allow the games to stay in their eshop.

I know from saying this I might get the occasional, "That's not necessary," or "MH Doesn't need a remake/remaster," But hear me out (or rather read me out because text lol); Because of games like MH Freedom Unite, MH3U and MH4U, Most players can't/won't bother playing them because of the systems they're exclusive to. Heck, not a lot of people are willing to play games as old as MH1 (Myself included). While I understand why the MH teams haven't remade/remastered/re-released the older titles, I would prefer we get them back in some way (Not just the monsters). Especially now that Nintendo Eshop shut down on 3U, 4U, and Gen. And at some point, the older games will become so old that getting physical copies will be pretty scarce (Not to mention really expensive). I'd say the pros outweigh the cons; 1. Older games on modern hardware obviously 2. Being able to get footage on said games without emulator (like Freedom Unite & 4U) 3. It would give the main team more time to develop the next big game 4. Players able to experience monsters that never returned otherwise 5. Potential updated Graphics/Textures Cons: 1. Remakes/Remasters potentially having things the older games did better 2. If the remakes/remasters get similar treatment to BDSP

All very well put. Pros, potential cons. The reinvigoration these things can bring to games/series. I have a personal investment as this topic pertains to Pokémon. I'll hold in the 3,000 word essay and just say that the first three generations and their respective remakes offer similar yet markedly unique adventures (and good thing there are only Remakes of the first three generations, sure would suck to have my favorite region Sinnoh and its set of Pokémon games marred by a mediocre and uber buggy demake, hahahahah, Legends Arceus is really cool though). Physical special split, additions of abilities, Steel and Fairy types being added, mega evolutions, changing of items/their locations, available moves, sometimes additional content. You could play, say, HeartGold to completion, then go back to Crystal and find wholly different ways of tackling the region and even of finding new uses/niches for the exact same Pokémon. The remakes are on the whole improvements, but they also are just worthy of being separate entries in the series.

The moral of the story, as always: greed sucks, capitalism sucks. But yeah, it sucks seeing a game get an awful remaster/remake just for the sake of printing money. The annoying thing that these out of touch executives don't understand is making a high quality remake of an already beloved game will always be very profitable. There's no reason to risk making a bad version for the sake of being cheap.

I agree with you, but also just a port would usually be enough, no need to remake game, for example the last of us did NOT need a remake in the slightest. And some games can't be remade properly, because back in the day, games were made with fun in mind and didn't care much about how their world looked as long as the level design was top notch. And if they remake them like a modern game, then they will be very different. Which can be a good thing or a bad thing. Also I have chained echoes and I'm waiting to get more free time to play it.

BDSP was such a disappointment. Ignoring all the improvements and story changes of Platinum. Worst gaming purchase I've done in the last decade.

My issue with remakes is if a remake for a game I haven’t played drops, I have people telling me to play the original then the remake. When the Dead Space Remake dropped, I had people telling me to play the original because it plays fine and it would make the remake feel better. Same thing with Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Even worse when they make the original inaccessible, since you have the newer, better version anyways. *cries in Build Engine*

I like remasters if I have not yet played it, but remakes is like watching the same movie twice if I played the original, or it forces me to choose between the original and the remake.

Ok here we go Remake: the game has been given new gameplay EG Metorid samus returns remake 2017 features new bosses and new equipment and systems Port: the original game has not been changed at all and is still in its original graphics the only difference is that the controls and the console it’s on Remastered: the game has NO differences except for the graphics these are changed to the consoles standard like Metorid prime YOUR WELCOME

just replay the game. people forgot you can replay the game and that was the reason 3 years old Timmy could beat Ninja Gaiden, 3 times without dying.
