Oh ho ho ho.... what do we have here? Is this what everyone has been waiting for???? In this video (first of a 2-parter), Danielle unboxes the Remco Bike Lift electric repair stand, goes through how it works, and gives some very early initial impressions.
**Comment below to get your questions about the stand answered in the follow-up - Part 2 will be an in-depth review after using the stand and pushing it to the limits**
Check out Remco here (and thank you to them for this test unit, I don't get to keep it so this is all honest I swear):

Thanks for posting this. I was unaware they existed. Now I'm curious what they have. Looks pretty nice. As always, you do a great job of reviewing. Thanks again!

Lmao loved that GLaDOS reference. What a game. Portal 1 and 2 are an absolute masterpiece. The stand is cool too though! 😅😂

Mine arrived the day before I had to have open heart surgery (Feb 1st). I got it partially assembled, but I am finally getting the energy to maybe try it out. I won't be able to work work until mid April, so no big rush. Thanks for the video so I can see what mine "should" do in action.

You're going to love it!!! Take the time you need to heal up right, the stand will be a real game changer for fatigue at work. Just what the doctor ordered I'm sure! Stay tuned for all the crazy testing, seems like a great piece of kit so far 🤘

Does it have auto stop? e.g. when you lower the bike and it's already touching the floor, will it go down to the programmed lower end or stop on resistance?

This is a big one that keeps coming up - I don't think it has a sensor but im planning to test it's lowering force also to see if it even matters

The website states that despite its weight rating, the stand is not designed for Cargo bikes with front baskets or extra long tails. Do you think this is just a disclaimer? Or is there something about the design that makes it not support the rotational force of a heavy long cargo bike? Could be a draw-back as those bikes become more popular, and are often the type of bike you really need an electric stand for.

This is something I was curious about also. I think it may just be the limitations of a singular clap and the way it is fixed to the stand. Could be wrong though. This is also on my list.

Thanks for including the sound of it lifting. Being that quiet makes it incredibly tempting. If it's possible for you to take the actual lifting part apart or at least show how it's put together that would also be amazing.

I'm going to see what I can show given it is a tester and not my own to mess up 😬

*Cat:* _- You know what also can be picked up, human?_ 😅 Jokes aside, I've never heard of that brand so comparing it to the kind of electric stand Park Tool has had for years, I find that one so much simpler and it looks like proper quality. It would be super nice to own something like it, but it's a stretch for the home mechanic like myself. I do already own a proper mechanical stand(Unior 1693BQ) that I really like because of how sturdy it is, and then a separate stand(Topeak Prepstand Elite) I use only for washing my bike because it's mostly aluminum except bolts nuts so it won't rust. I do really like that stand though because it looks solid. Some day, maybe 🤔

It's definitely something to weigh with the returns - if you lift 12 bikes a day into a stand this becomes a bigger issue! Or if you own 1 very heavy bike it could also be life-changing.

Thanks for the video. It's like a new application for a standing desk mechanism. Pretty slick. But I'd think the controls are on the worst side. They're in harm's way for pedal strike and you gave to reach through the bike in an awkward way. I'd think it would be better to have them on the back. What do you think as you use it? Thanks again. Love the channel.

I was kind of wanting a remote honestly - though I understand that it would need to be tied down in a shop to not walk off 😬 I'll also look at the mount for the clamp and see if it can be rotated. It is definitely toward the "front" but if it's a square you could feasibly put it to the side maybe...

if youve got something underneath the stand and it moves down, does it stop, or is there a risk of the thing getting crushed? for example, if youve got a bike on the stand and something is underneath the bike, does it automatically detect that? similarly going up, if a bike goes up and gets snagged against something, how much weight does it take before it stops? and max weight capacity?
@joelthebicyclist8195
@joelthebicyclist8195 6 месяцев назад
my shop has been talking to the local importer about these stands and I've been told there is no collision detection so if you have something under the stand, or if the bike contacts the floor before the low height setting is reached it won't stop and damage could occur.
@ed0078
@ed0078 6 месяцев назад
@@joelthebicyclist8195Uh…there is no “local importer”. Remco Tools deals directly with the manufacturer so I am not quite sure if the info you received is reliable.

@@ed0078 I've been seeing mechanics take the wheels off bikes and lean them against the stand pole for many years, particularly in smaller workshops

Unior stand has the said detection mechanism but it's much more expensive.
