The difference is that EVANS has more central sounds - vibrates are from the inside of head, and REMO resonates more with the whole surface, with emphasis on the edges
The Remo tonal sustain duration outlasts Evans and is balanced and complete through the entire sustain. Whoa...nice mic. Nice tuning. Nice sticking. Thanks for the vid!
This is a great comparison, but obviously the Evans doesn't sound as good as the Remo. But all drums are different so some will sound better with Evans and others with Remo. But what I noticed is a rounded bearing edge doesn't work as well with Evans, it just doesn't resonate as much due to the control of Evans heads.
Both are great 👍 Evans are maybe a little easier to tune. Have a little less tone and sustain to the note. Depending on your playing and the room and other music 🎶 that can an advantage or disadvantage. Emperors would be optimum for a larger venue with higher volume.
Evans for live performance, and Remo in the studio. That lasting resonance of the Remo can't be heard live, but the punch of the Evans can. The clean resonance of the Remo is picked up by studio mics, which the Evans lacks. That my experience anyway...
Ok, Remo has a lot of tone, almost to much for me, cuz When I think of toms I think how Neil Peart tuned, which always sounded low. And the Evans, in my opinion sound better than the Remos.
The Remo will give more options. You can dampen it to suit your needs. With something like the Evans, you're pretty much stuck with what ya got. The other thing, is that when playing with other musicians, you need as much time as possible to be heard (Unless mic'd of course), and that's another check in the box for Remo.
@Kënny Hamiltön I'm a Evans guy but I'm actually considering trying Remo on my next head change for something different I played the pinstripe once before and wasn't a big fan but something else might be different
