PCNL - Percutaneous nephrolithotomy is a surgery to remove large stones directly from the kidney. Find more reliable information on PCNL at EAU Patient Information: patients.uroweb.org/percutane...
I’ve had the procedure. It’s a two step process. One in radiology to place the guide and the next for retrieval I was awake in between each procedure. I only stayed over night in the hospital but went home with a tube in my back and a urine bag. I was in the doctors 3 days later to remove the tube which was draining the affected kidney.
I don’t recall any fever but there could have been a slight one and I am fine now after 6 years. It was not as bad as I thought it would be. The incision was only about an inch long.
Hello Currenty i am having the same problem and doctors told me that I need exact surgery to remove stones from my kidney. Could you please tell on which country and hospital you had surgery?
This definitely depends on your region and not every patient will have the same result. For me, it was a 1 step process, I was under general anaesthesia, operation was about 2hours 30min. The pain I felt post opp was without a doupt the worst I've ever experienced. I was in hospital for 7 days with a drainage tube. Recovery was 30 days before I could return to work and I lost just over 20kgs. Like I said, it won't be like this for everyone, it just happened to be like this for me.
Thanks a lot for your contribution to make us easy understand. Please can I continue doing all my activities after post operation successful, once again thank.
Assalam o Alaikum Thank you so much it hepled me alot because I learn more accurately with visualization... Thank you.... lots of love and respect from Pakistan 🇵🇰❣️🤲🏻✨
Very well explained madam. TQ and Greatful. With subtitles it would have been way way way much better, because people around the world come to RU-vid ( so there is language barrier), because I didn't understood DJ stenting portion of the video.
just had this procedure and it worked.dischrged yesterday 2/14 they removing stint tomorrow in office!!!i feel 100%better!!!thanks to salem hospital and urologist mark laspina do!!!!
@@wizza2315do you guys just pee alot? its so tiring and im loosing sleep, i already have insomnia, sleep paralysis, i have so many problems sleeping already and this is just making it worse. the doctor suggested i go to an urologist to see whats up and i have my appointment in 2 weeks. i wish it was sooner though. i cant sleep anymore. i even started taking melatonin pills to sleep until they didnt work anymore. i hate this
When they tell you there is a risk of many bad things, believe them! My Dr punctured a renal artery and sent me home to struggle, hemorrhaging for over a week until I almost died. Two weeks in ICU, many attempts to stop the bleeding through the artery. Lost 75% use of that kidney and years later lost the entire kidney. Risk is real people.
@@shreeraj9211 no, the same surgeon eventually stopped the bleeding after several attempts using a type of wire mesh of some sort. Left around 25% of the function in that kidney. After 7 or so years and many kidney stones surgeries in that kidney (by a different urologist in a different state-very great Dr and surgeon) the function starting falling to 20% or less and the kidney was removed using another very talented surgeon using DaVinci Robotic device. I did not sue the Dr who still practices in the greater Atlanta area.
my God just read the text I need to have this operation I am so worried please doctors use the medical instruments properly we don't need more pain pleaseee my day's I am scared
that's because your stones can be removed with sound waves . Certain types of stones and larger stones require this PCNL surgery. I've had SWL and PCNL and stents and nephrosocmay tubes as well over ten years had over 15 surges on my kidneys. But have not needed a surgery since 2020 thank GOD 🙏🏽
I've got to have this procedure soon! I've got a very large stone stuck in my kidney. It's too big to pass. I've had traditional ureteroscope surgery for stones in my ureters but this time its too big. The pain is terrible sometimes where all I can do is lay on a heating pad. Feels like someone's trying to rip out my kidney the pain is so bad. I've been putting it off for awhile now but it's affecting my ability to work bcuz of the pain. How long did u stay in the hospital?
Solitary kidney..mutiple stones 18mm,15mm etc, is pcnl is safe surger for me or i wil go fir RIRS,and why doctor saying in pcnl surgery there chance bleeding and if not stop ,,,than possibility of kidney demage or on dialysis...pls suggest..
@@tahirarain3517 yes fever and complicated sepsis to be precise. The patient was diabetic and dj stent is prone to bacterial growth due to biofilm formation. Hence check for urine culture immediately and talk with your doctor on starting antibiotics early on. Urine culture report should be clean before surgery and its better to keep the patient on observation for atleast one week, even if doctors advise early discharge. Note, I m not a medical professional and sharing my personal experience. Dj stenting if not done properly, the distal end may migrate from bladder ,into the ureter, which requires anesthesia again for removal. All these points need to be clarified by the treating doctor. Moreover better to do this surgery in big centres having good footfall and the outcomes are better.
I had a 13 mm kidney stone removed. It required 2 Lithotripsies as an out patient. The most uncomfortable thing was when they removed the stent 1 month after the procedures.
U can go for Lazer treatment also but it is expensive this surgery is cheaper..... 23 mm is big size u should act immediately cause this size of stone will lead to kidney infection also
