Removing air conditioner hole stuccoed beautifully.
We installed new stucco where the hole was.

Hello friends, we are fixing a hole from a removed air conditioner in this video.
We properly broke out the perimeter stucco, attached the waterproof lath, and applied both coats to this stud framing.
After the accelerated basecoat set, we then applied a color finish over the basecoat to match the existing finish.
You, too, can learn how to do this by simply watching and taking notes. But, of course, the texture takes some practice.
One of the drags of applying stucco to this patch was that the stucco was about two inches thick in some areas. As it is a stud wall.
Before 1975 many homes were just studs. Thus they required lots of stuccoes.
Below is a video that shows how to lath stud homes.
When I started in this trade, we didn’t have the luxury of plywood surfaces.

1 25 lb box of rapid set did a 20" by 15" patch at 1" depth, at least for me.

Good morning Mike, tough question as all homes are different. Color coat start around $5,300 for small homes and can go to $20,000 for very large homes. Some homes are big but have easy access while other are small with lot of intricate details. If a home is painted, pressure washing is necessary and a bonding agent must be applied directly to the home prior to an application of a color coat maintenance free finish. Howdy mjdmtlakes, strangely enough my costs for color coats are about the same as a painted finish. Of course we only do the body of the home. The eves still have to be painted. I have asked the least 20 people what the cost for painting was and we have beaten their prices most of the time. Most folks simply don’t know or understand this type of option is available. Howdy john, excellent question. Usually like a brick which is also maintenance free when it gets wet it darkens. You could take a water hose and wet it if it darkens considerably it’s a color coat. On the rare times I’m not sure it’s a color coat maintenance free finish I simply spit on my finger and rub the wall. Thanks for watching and have a great day in the UK. Kirk Giordano Plastering

In 2002, I had my entire single story 2065 sq. ft. house here in Fountain Valley, CA sand blasted and re-color coated. The sand blasting cost $450. The color coat cost $2,700, which included standard application on the first day, and skip trowel texture on the second day. One guy mixed in a pull-behind mixer and two guys applied the stucco. They were very good and neat. Still looks good..

Wow, I am amazed that you can be that competitive offering a service that will outlast ordinary paint by 40 years. You really should consider a video devoted to laying out this offer, addressing concerns and key wording it so people can find it. I just wish you guys were on the "Right" coast. Mike

Thanks for the reply. Do you think it would be safe to figure on 50% more than what it would cost to paint? I know that the trim paint will still have to be redone, but it would be great if the stucco itself didn't need anything for 40-50 years.

Another great video. I am very interested in a maintenance free color coat vs repainting my stucco. Do you have a video which discusses the relative costs of color coating vs painting? Are there special issues with color coating over painted stucco? Love to know more about this as my house is three stories high with steep roofs and lots of windows -- a real PIA to paint. Mike

Reat videos.. I lived in Brasil a few years and was so interested in their construction. I saw them pour a bag (came inside a cardboard circular carton, maybe 10" dia x 28" long) of carpenters glue into the mixer. They used this on rooves poured over those big ceramic blocks in between 2 concrete beams. They told me it waterproofs the roof, that only cement will be their almost flat roof. I see the way you waterproof everything, does it interest you? Or would waterproofing just the materials used in the patch upset the rest that isn't?

Good Evening Thomas, the methods we show are the ones I have learned the first ten years of my 40 years at plastering. There are many ways to skin a cat. Hello, Kirk. I have a question about the skipping technique. Do you lift the edge of your trowel off the wall or you simply drag it along? I am trying to learn as much as I can as this is probably my favorite finish. :)

Evening Gandalf, skip troweling takes time to learn, allow the wall to pull the stucco off your trowel, if you want a heavy skip trowel finish like taco bell restaurants, trowel flatter the stucco on the wall. Or if you want what is called a Spanish Lace tilt the trowel on edge more. Cheers, kirk giordano Rendering

thanks for the video, but thinking about the window/structure, the customer should know that there is a bigger issue going on, you can see the window cracks at the edges, the window is basically floating at that point, looks like this is a load bearing wall. I hope the customer wants to pay to fix that before it caves in. What sucks is that this is very common, the houses made after 60's and before 2008 are just paper.

This guys a quack. He thinks color-coat is actually maintenance free. ha. a good quality applied , good quality paint on stucco will last 25-40 Year's, in the hottest part of the U.S.. and that old non-designed existing stucco with absolutely no uniform in texture, my daughter could match! im gonna continue to watch for the laugh tho..

Evening Steve, no worries, BTW, we worked 10 hours yesterday it started at 100 degrees got to 107, then dropped to about 95 at the end of the day. I prefer about 90 degrees everyday as I seem to be part reptile, but this day kicked me arse.
