Little more $ and you can get complete strut assemblies and rear shocks. Could do all 4 in less time. Just a thought for those who are intimidated about compressing springs.

Unfortunately the strut assemblies that you get for that price will go out quick and the ride quality sucks compared to OEM.

Honestly your video just gave me the confidence to put my current strut springs on my bell tech lowering struts.

Great vid Dan. I did mine on my 07, but I wusses out and had a shop switch the shocks into the spring assembly. Lol

It's a little unnerving working with a compressed spring, but it wasn't that bad. Getting the nut off of the shock post can be a real booger if it's rusted to the post. Bill's Firebird strut was that way...liked to never have gotten that nut off!

Renting a special tool sure beats shelling out the $$$ to buy one, and then only using it once.

WD 40 is not a lubricant. They make one. PB BLASTER AND DEEP CREEP ALSO WORK

100% correct David, NOT A LUBRICANT!!!! Actually works opposite of a lubricant. WD = Water Displacer. Not sure if that’s true or not but someone told me once. I will use it as a coating in some applications (like a rifle after cleaned and lubricated) but never as a lubricant. Good ole oil or a lite lithium grease would be best for a spring compressor or similar application.

My local mechanic compressed my spring for me but the base needs to be turned. Is that possible for me to do? Not sure why he didn’t make sure it was lined up the first time.

@TheDaninator I am doing this same job, replacing the rubber boot only, old shock is fine. Put everything back together and lined it up and now there is not enough threads sticking out the top to get the nut back on. Any ideas? Thanks

Are the 3 bolts welded on or are they just pressed in

@edfil8863

Careful with cheap knock off quick struts, inferior springs and shocks compared to OE. I wouldn’t use them as front springs are extreme important for ride and feel plus, you’re throwing out perfectly good springs in most cases.

I am currently stuck without a vehicle because I tried this job and cannot get the shock top nut off. The damn shock shaft just spins no matter how hard I apply a vice grip. I think I will need all new springs, I've tried everything, Chevy really fucked owners with this shock top mount design.
