I think seasons 2 and 3 are much better than season 1. "Revolt" is easily my favorite episode. Watching these in 1978, I was only 8 or 9, but I knew then, that this was a darker cartoon than other things on at the time, and because of that, it still stands out in my memory, today.

The psychedelic Ralph Bakshi Spider-Man and Rocket Robin Hood episode’s we’re Batshit insane and I freaking loved them! 😆 Infinata was a big favourite of mine, me and my friends would imitate his lines for a good laugh.

Dementia 5 also appeared on Rocket Robin Hood. IMDB says this: "Grantray-Lawrence Productions, the show's original production company were on the brink of bankruptcy when the show had premiered and had to file for it in 1968 after Season 1 ended. This forced them to hand over production for the show to Krantz Films Inc, as studio known at the being the home of Ralph Bakshi who became the show's lead animator. With Ralph Bakshi in charge of production duties and a slashed budget, the show started to have a darker tone in Season 2. The background images here changed to colorful paintings with a psychedelic look to them. Other changes included a greater focus on Peter Parker's social life, and there were less comic villains used and more generic green-skinned villains created.""When Krantz Films took over, almost none of the comic book villains were used. Instead, Ralph Bakshi and his team came up with outlandish original villains for the show. Most of the human looking ones had green skin. Unlike Season 1, none of the original villains in Seasons 2 & 3 returned for a second appearance except The Master Technician/Radiation Specialist.""After Season 2 ended, the series continued to air on ABC's Saturday morning line up until August 30, 1969 when it was dropped by the network after 39 episodes aired. For the show to have a successful run in syndicated reruns, a minimum of 52 episodes was needed. After a year hiatus, a 3rd Season of 13 episodes was commissioned for production and slated to air in first run syndication, but Krantz films was running low on money and had the budget slashed even more than in was in Season 2. As a result, many of the episodes in Season 3 had heavily recycled animation footage from Season 1 & 2 episodes and just added new dialogue to make a new episode.""To cut costs, two episodes, Spider-Man: Phantom from the Depths of Time (1968) from Season 2 and Spider-Man: Revolt in the Fifth Dimension (1970) from Season 3 used nearly all its footage from Rocket Robin Hood (1966), another cartoon Ralph Bakshi was working on. These two episodes featured extremely little new footage and nearly shot for shot the same episodes, Rocket Robin Hood: From Menace to Menace (1969) and Rocket Robin Hood: Dementia Five (1969) from the "Rocket Robin Hood" cartoon and simply swapped Spider-Man in place of Rocket Robin Hood and Little John. They even had given Spider-Man the exact same dialogue."www.imdb.com/title/tt0061301/trivia?ref_=tt_trv_trv

Very cool. I've frankly never heard of Rocket Robin hood before. I got my diet of cartoons from the Super Host in Cleveland over brand new cable tv. Rocket Robin Hood wasn't a part of the Super Host's lineup. In watching the episode, Infinata certainly seems to fit a lot better in Robin's world than in Spider-Man's. Still, the same basic problem/pothole exists with Athom knowing Infinata is fake and somehow still falling prey to him. You would think is they are going to reuse the Dimentia 5 plotline that somebody would have addressed that.

Infinata should have been given credit for being the original Prawn, and he wore that cheeky fashionable belt to not only cinch up the waste area but to enhance his already desirable shape and proportion.

15:46 I don't know if you are being facetious here, but closing your mind to Dimentia 5 obviously takes alot of will. As intelligent as Athom and the scientists on Gorth were, they weren't strong enough to accomplish it. This is amazing science fiction.
@rengarcia5189
@rengarcia5189 4 месяца назад
I totally appreciate the thought, but it makes no sense. Spiderman, after just a few seconds while he's falling to his death is able to do it, so Athom, with full knowledge of the situation and unknown mental skills above and beyond Spiderman's (his use of telepathy) should also be able to do it. In Rocket Robinhood, which this episode was ripped from word for word, Robin and Little John (who is not a big brain guy by any means) also do it. In any event, it's fun stuff despite its flaws. Cheers!!

@rengarcia5189 Good point about the mental skills. I still like to believe my theory, as it's a clean explanation. I would say the Gorth scientists with their high intelligence and telekinesis, still weren't able to will their mind away from Infinata When he attacked their galaxy. He was just too overwhelming. Especially when your galaxy is exploding around you. This is why Little John (I'm more familiar with the original Rocket Robin Hood version) was able; his (low) intelligence didn't matter, it was his strength of will. And I would speculate that mostly came from his complete trust in Rocket Robin. When Rocket told him it was possible and to do it, John's resolve was 100% clear.

First used in Rocket Robin Hood, and recycled for Spiderman. I have another post here which gives greater details.

I watched them in the 70's in grade school and adored Bakshi's Spidie... this was my personal fave, but I was later more Goth in the 80's.

It just does add to the atmosphere of LSD and coolness. Even when being rescreened in 1978 for kids.

The 1st season of Spider-Man was filed with a routes gallery of Spidey's dealt foes! You've got your Doc Ock, your Vulture, your Mysterio, your Green Goblin, your Parafino, your Noah Body and your Human Fly Twins! But for the 2nd and 3rd seasons, the series went psychedelic, thanks to Ralph Bashki, who head the wall-to-wall crawler into an entirely new direction!

And, yes, I agree about the strange ending. Our theory (with some friends back in the day) was that Spidey was clearly defeated here by Psychedelia and the Fifth Dimension. I mean, the ending was so clearly ridiculous (not to mention the weird failure of the X ray), that the only interpretation left is that Spidey was destroyed. Also, note that Infinata goes away -- he refuses to enter reality. This is *the* highlight of Spiderman 67-70. A visual summary of an era that will never occur again.

Marvel Head Honchos must have done a lot of LSD in order to have allowed Bakshi free reign on such an integral character and his initial introduction to the larger non comic book audience. I am a Spidey purist and always wished better for our beloved wall-crawler, but, this is all we had at that time, and so I still ended up being fixated on this version of spidey on the screen. There were a lot of elements to this series that i loved and to this day, it is still my favorite of all time. all in all, it should have been handled better.

To answer your question at the 16:00 minute mark, those scientists were part of his realm, while Spiderman isn't.
@rengarcia5189
@rengarcia5189 4 года назад
I'm not too sure about that. They were just a pair of alien scientists on some world who figured out Infinata's secret. They seemed to be aware of Dementia 5, but not a part of it. Science didn't really seem to be a big thing in Dementia 5. It doesn't really make sense any way you slice it. Fun stuff. Cheers

11:18 Yah, untwarted for the next 50 yrs due to reruns. Damn it was always available somewhere on the tube as far back as I can remember. From the early seventies onward. It was in my 4 yr old face about 6-7 years after the cancellation. 15:41 And simply wishing Infanata away (metaphor for fear. ) was not ONE of the secrets Atham was aware of until Spidey revealed it. But the truth is if your going to criticize this series you should sit down because you are going to be at it a while. lol. Its that bad, and for that matter its that good. My beef was the creation of mechanical moving parts with his webbing like that of a boat motor in the everglades when he went there to get after the Lizard. Making Spidey stories look so silly when everybody knows this is such a serious matter. lol
