You are a marathon runnner - 9x charging must give an award, every 60ish km a break is a really tough challenge you can not really realize by watching in a 23 min. video representing a 9 hour ride. This video looks entertaining - or as in the stream called untertainment - like a joyride but you were really exhausted and noise level was quite high.

I drove my Renault ZOE Q210 22kW Battery with 43kW AC Charger around 600km on one day from Bavaria to Graz in Austria.(2018) No Problem at all, i only charged on 43kW AC. On 22kW like on this Twingo it would be a bit to slow... Now with my Tesla Model 3 its almost to easy to drive that distance. :D

Just searched my stats. Duration of the Trip 12h with charging and eating breaks and whatnot. 587km 77.7 km/h average speed 15.9 kWh/100km 93kWh total consumption

Charging speed makes all the difference. My first long distance EV experience was driving a first-gen VW e-up! from Zwickau to Munich (350 km). Although it only had 15.9 kWh useable capacity, it wasn't too bad because charging to 80% took barely more than 20 minutes thanks to CCS fast charging. And I didn't mind getting out of this tiny city car every 45-60 minutes. ;-) But relying on 22 kW AC charging for long distance travelling would drive me crazy.

Ich selbst fahre auch einen Twingo electric, aber alle 50 km muss ich nicht Laden. Meine Reichweite bis zur Ladesäile beträgt 170 km und da hab immer noch 15 Prozent. Und das im Ecomodus bei 107 km/h

Good to know you survived the ordeal, Chris 😅 Perfect description: 90% only drive their (one) car to work, very occasionally they take it on a long trip. A modest car might meet all the needs, as long as range and charging speed are reasonable.

I would consider to take it for 250 kms trip with charging somewhere inbetween.

9.20hrs just as fast than my leaf 500kms test in Ireland. Had to wait at some chargers. Took 8hr.20 Most people will own this and take road trip to concert or beach in the summer . Only go once or twice. This is not a problem to tip along at leisure. We all have time and not money for 80kwh packs.

You are absolutely right! You can do it, even if it is not the most convenient thing to do. Sure, in my Model 3, and going only 90 km/h, I could probably do the 500 km on a single charge and a little under 6 hours. In practice, I would go more like 130 km/h, charge at least once or rather twice (one has to pee after all), and end up with the same average speed of about 90 km/h, compared to your 60 km/h. So even your worst-case scenario is only 33% slower compared to my best-case one. That is not too bad after all! In the past, before I had a car and before that stupid pandemic, I used to take the train a lot. There were certain trips without direct connections and changing a lot between multiple slow-ish trains. It would take me about twice the time compared to driving, and with all the changing, it was not even convenient. Yet, I could go from point A to point B for minimal cost, which was definitely better than not going at all. It is the same with the Twingo, no ideal, but definitely doable, especially if you only need to do it once in a blue moon!
@plasot

Point is that in Europe you do not have to do it as for 500 kms trip you can easily use mass transportation.

I once did a 500km trip (in fact back and forth, so a total of1000km) with a Renault Zoe 41kWh. It took me 6,5 hours of driving at 85km/h according to GOM and exactly 1 stop of charging for 2 hours. I'm used to driving at slow speeds behind the trucks but that 2 hours of charging sucked.

Great video! I personally love this car but can't get it in Slovakia (hard to understand why when you can get almost all other EVs). Since there are tons of AC chargers here, many of them free or very cheap, it would be perfect car, especially if you live in the city or travel close by. 100-200kms trips are also pretty fine. Small battery is more than sufficient for this (and more ecological) and when you need to go further 1-2 a year, the car can manage it without battery overheating too much. Its of course not car for everyone but I am surprised they don't bring it to countries with excellent AC charging infrastructure... Not sure this will sell in Germany... Btw, 22 kW AC charging is so much underestimated...

the problem with 22kw or if your onboard charger is slower is time. you are taken the charger away from space for faster charging cars for a huge time. if you look at it if you charge at a 7kW charger the likelihood is you could for some cars need 6 hrs to charge up which means only 4 cars in a 24 hr time can charge.

e-Up data from 2020 Video for comparison: the e-Up charged at any time faster than the Twingo up to 77% at 18 kW (50 min) The e-Up will be 2,5 hours faster than the 9 h of the Twingo if you check the math below based on former videos from april 2020 90 km / h 13,5 kWh (wet, rain, 7°C which means worser conditions) 230 km range and 5% - 80% range 173 km 110 km / h 16,5 kWh (wet, rain, 7°C which means worser conditions) 188 km range and 5% - 80% range 141 km 100 km / h should be the best compromise, cause 110 km / h is too fast, 90 km / h too slow 500 km at 100 km/h = 5 x 15 kWh = 75 kWh - 32 kWh (Start at 100% SOC) = 43 kWh to charge 2x 14 kWh = 2x 25 min 1x 15 kWh = 1x 27 min Would 4 charges make more sense or better would that be faster ? No, cause 4 charges x 11 kWh at 20 min = 80 min which means 3 mins longer charging time + time for another stop LOGBOOK 120 min = 200 km till 1st charge @ 100 27 min = charge 15 kWh 60 min = 300 km till 2nd charge @ 100 25 min = charge 14 kWh 60 min = 400 km till 3nd charge @ 100 25 min = charge 14 kWh 60 min = 500 km 377 min = 6:16 hours This is a pretty acurate calculation so 6:30 hours can be expected if good prepared at least at these low temperatures. 2,5 hours faster - for a similiar expensive car is a clear vote to get a fully equipped e-Up And yes, you have to calculate on minutes to get a fair comparison cause otherwise figures show no big difference and look the same if you try to calculate with 0,1 hours which equals 5 minutes. The difference was roughly 1 hours between 0,1 hour calculation versus minutes. So be carefull if you try to do the math. Biggest challenger for the TWINGO might be the DACIA SPRINT in autumn due to 2 kWh bigger battery and 30 kWh CCS charger, but will not reach the e-Up speed due to 8 kWh smaller battery and 10 kWh slower charging speed.

I love our little ICE Twingo Dynamique. I can only presume Renault arent importing the EV Twingo to the UK because it would compete with Zoe for sales? Even on our ICE Twingo, the fuel gauge is rubbish. The bar display doesnt move off full until there's about 2 gallons left in the tank when it will show half full! The digital display of fuel used since last refill ie 5.5 gallons, is very accurate so rely on that to know how much is left in the tank. There's nowhere to put your other leg even in the ICE Twingo but fortunately, as Im not tall like you, it's not as uncomfortable for me. Manufacturers need to sort out the position of charge ports. Either put one each side of the vehicle or one centrally front or back. The chargers dont have long enough cables and parking cockeyed is just crazy.

Twingo has water-cooled battery. A huge benefit compared to VW e-up! With 120 km/h the trip will need additional time. The sweetspot for Twingo is nearly that 94 km/h (around 90 km/h real). The faster you drive, the later you will arrive. ;) But 8 times charging is too often. 4 charging stops would be fine.

Wait, you have to actually pay to charge your EV? Defeats the whole point of driving an EV.. Divide battery cost over 10 years plus paying to charge and the extra cost of an EV itself.. it all comes to be more expensive per km than driving a small fuel efficient lpg or diesel
@ibarkovic
@ibarkovic 2 года назад
You have a point. I have to buy a new car and I have spent last month calculating what is the total cost of ownership over 10 years of a diesel vs EV and it is very close but EV is still a bit cheaper + it does not polute. 12 years ago, I have paid 9000Euro for my Renault Megane 1.5 diesel and I have calculated that I have spent just over 20000 Euro for the fuel (I have done 320000km with that car, average cons. is 4.8-5 lit/100km). A new Zoe ZE 50 would cost me 20000 Euro, if I charge it at night at my home and if the prices of the eletricity does not change much in next 10 years it would cost me around 5000Euros for charging. Diesel has a lot of spare parts and requires servicing, EV does not as much. All in all, i think EVs cost less :-)
