I've been running the Renogy 2000w for about 9mths, attached to a 280ah lifepo4 battery. It works great for the things I have tried and usd often 1400w airfryer, 1800w max power induction hob, 1000w kettle and 1400w toaster. I haven't had need to use it as ups. Excellent bit of kit 👍

Great review! I have searched everywhere but simply cannot find the rated current for the pass through circuit when on hookup/shorepower. I have a 1000w UPS Inverter but when on hookup, I want to be able to power devices far above 1000w. As this is simply an internal bypass relay I would assume this is no problem but again I cannot find any information on this. Appreciate any info at all on this. Thanks again!

So one of these, a pair of LFP batteries and a charger would make a well rounded UPS system that would be small and light enough to go in the bottom of my rack. I really like the UPS function. Similar UPS's cost thousands and these inverters are $AU379. Juegint by the size of your SOK batteries, I could get away with my CALB 180 Ah cells, a 250A Daly BMS, a suitable T class fuse, and one of these, and power my network stack, modem, entertainment centre, some lamps and my gaming rig for several hours during an outage, and even run a 1200 w heater :)

Thanks for the video review. I have a couple of question please. I just bought this inveter from eBay. As soon as I turned on, I could hear the fan's sound started about a second or so then it (fan) shut off. Is this normal or do I get a defective one? How many watts of power draw before the fan started kicking in?
@lukeskywalker2116

Make sure that your battery can provide enough current: 2000 W / 12V = 167 Amps, to handle the peak 4000 W, your battery needs to provide 333 Amps. Don't plug anything in at first Put a voltmeter on the battery side to see what is happening there. If the voltage drops a lot, that could be the issue. A "12 Volt" battery can go from 11 to 13.8 Volts. Your battery should read over 12 V unloaded. Make sure it's fully charged.
@colinmacdougall999

Hi Chris, nice review and just to ask what would happen if there was only limited shore power as per many campsites. Would the inverter adjust accordingly and supply additional power or would it just simply shut the shore power off. Thoughts appreciated.
@SolarPowerChannelwithChris
@SolarPowerChannelwithChris Год назад
Thanks for watching.. I don't know, I think its one or the other. As I can hear what sounds like a relay inside click. I think if it detects nothing on the shore power it will just click over. Do you use a pre-charge resistor or do you just connect the Renogy inverter directly to the batteries? I think it would be better if they could have made it so that it works off batteries/solar until they are depleted and then works off mains until the battery is charged fully rather than the other way around. Do you know how long it can use peak power before cutting out?
@SolarPowerChannelwithChris
@SolarPowerChannelwithChris Год назад
I did not use a resistor to charge the capacitors in the inverter for my demo. Your talking about a different type of inverter. You need the all in one inverter/mppt. This is just a simple inverter 12v to 230v with a UPS as a bonus. It looks like it will run at peak power until the batteries do the disconnect.

I need to power a single wired light and 2 UK sockets (in one series) in my off grid office and would like to do this. Though because I have not seen anyone do this online I'm unsure if it is okay to do so. Many thanks!

Had me spooked for a minute there because I only have one 300ah battery (Fogstar Drift). I just checked the spec though and it supports 200a discharge, with a 300a max. I was also wondering why the box had two sets of cables, but this explains it, one per battery. Strange though, if you watch older videos, the cables have one end, but split into two cables in the middle, so it had me wondering for a while. I'm still feeling like I should be putting a 250a ANL fuse in though somewhere. Need to research this one more.

@SolarPowerChannelwithChris Год назад
Yes a fuse is wise. Also use both cables to the single frogstar always good for the current draw. 200ah is a fair amount. I want to look at their battery.

Why does the amount of batteries matter? surely it depends on the spec/capacity of the battery? Surely One lithium battery over 200ah for example, will handle that inverter without breaking a sweat, even with a higher than 2000w start up draw.
@SolarPowerChannelwithChris
@SolarPowerChannelwithChris Год назад
Because some batteries only have a 100amp draw. Even if a battery is rated to 200amps, it can create stress to the cells. Lowing the cycle life of the battery in capacity.

Is this pure sine wave
@SolarPowerChannelwithChris
@SolarPowerChannelwithChris Год назад
Hello, yes. I put it on my meter to show the wave. The wave also stays true when the inverter is under full load.

So you can simply use a single 3000AH lithium battery, you must have two?
@SolarPowerChannelwithChris

Depends on the BMS specs.. some allow for a 3k watt inverter.. or some only allow a 2k watt inverter. It's all about the battery discharge rating. So it's hard, as manufacturers differ so much!

Renogy can not sell a remote for this unit. Be aware, get the remote with this unit or you will have to look for an after market. This is something that Renogy doesn’t suggest but that’s about all you can do.

What a strange opening statement, you can get away with one battery depending on the batt Ah and your BMS if your draw passes through the BMS, use your BMS for charging not outlet. I run a inverter charger on 1 lifpo4 12v 560ah, no problem at all, my batt alarm is set when 80% charge is consumed but never happens
@SolarPowerChannelwithChris
@SolarPowerChannelwithChris Год назад
What you are doing is not advised for the style of batteries I am using. It requires modification to the battery itself, you are by passing a safety feature. I would never recommend this to anyone. So I would say this is not a strange statement to make. If the battery drops below 10v it would damage the cells. I was using £1950 worth of batteries from SOK, this is the fastest way to damage them. It would also remove the warranty from the battery as the manufacturer would not approve.

Expensive batteries.

With 10+ years of service and many 1000'ss of cycles they eventually start to pay them self's off! Compared to lead they are 1/3 of the weight, half the size and you can use the full capacity of the battery.

This unit does not have UPS capability, does not come with a power cord, does not have an a/c power in, does not charge the battery etc. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way after relying on this video and ordered this unit and now I have to pay for return shipping. I called Renogy and they confirmed all of this for me. I suggest you do the same before purchasing one relying on this. They do make an inverter charger, which is a different model and twice the price.

You clearly didn’t buy the right one as mine came with everything needed other than the battery charger. Cause it’s not a battery charger it’s an inverter. The problem is yourself not the inverter

The incredibly stupid design of the mounting feet on these things almost makes the whole device worthless. There's not enough clearance to get a screwdriver past the -'ve terminal onto the screw, to drive it in. The 1000W model i have is even worse, where the +'ve terminal also obstructs access to the other screw. It's just infuriating. You end up having to take the feet off the goddamned inverter, mount the feet onto whatever platform or wall you're fixing to, and then mount the inverter back onto the feet and hope the screws line up. All they had to do was make the feet a little bigger, with the mounting screw a bit further out. But no...

Funny you say this.. I found the same issue when installing in my camper! But I got the screwdriver in there. Not ideal. 🤣

Is there 8000 watt Renogy inverter

Think, 3k is their highest. If it's that high in watts. It would be 48v input.
