This is great. It’s been a goal of mine to be able to power our RVs AC via solar. You just made it look easy.

Hello sir , looks like your on the right track ! I haven’t had a chance to see more of your videos ! When I first found interesting into switching over to off grid ! I did a lot of home work before giving out thousands off my hard own work ! I’ve learn there’s is a lot of companies out their that offer the same product !!!!! All they do is slap their own name on it they all have to follow the state rules and qualifications in ordering pass with compliance ? Save your money and find a different route

Nice video. I just ordered a similar but more powerful all in one (6kW continuous) for charging my model 3. It can also do split phase so I can charge off 240V while powering a few 120V freezers at the same time.

I'd do the camper roof. Probably get 800 watts off that. Your camping Probably 3 days or a week. So at 800 watts should have plenty of power.

I decided to go with Battle Born batteries for my travel trailer and I'll be connecting two in series for 24 volts. They do sell 24 volt batteries that you could connect in series to get up to 48 volts easily. They are not the cheapest batteries around (I managed to get them for $807 each to my door) but they are as good as you can get with current technology. Part of the reason why I went with them is because I do intend to use them on a daily basis so that not only when we are on trips will they be used but I will use the solar production of my travel trailer to charge my Tesla on a regular basis. And then to add to that I will be able to use my RVs electrical system as emergency backup power for my entire house if need be because it will be a 240 volt system. I have not yet started the installation because I have been still acquiring the components and designing the system but I will be documenting the build out on my RU-vid channel too if you are curious to see how it plays out in the future for me.

I've heard those are solid batteries, my father in law has two of those. I will be interested in seeing how your setup comes out. I just worry that I couldn't fit enough solar and battery capacity in my trailer to charge an EV efficiently. This stuff is so much fun though, have fun building!
@ElectricTechAdventures
@ElectricTechAdventures 3 года назад
@@AllElectricFamily there's a couple different ways to looking at charging efficiently. On the electricity side it's better to charge at 240 volts. Then there's how much battery capacity do you have and how sunny it is while you're charging your EV. If I start charging in the morning and lower the amps the EV is pulling to the right average to where over the course of the day it nearly empties the batteries and consumed all the solar output that day then that's ideal for a non travel day. My RV batteries amount to 9,600 Wh which is an 8th the size of my Model S battery to give an ideal of size comparison. I'm excited to get my system built and do some real world testing!
@AllElectricFamily
@AllElectricFamily 3 года назад
@@ElectricTechAdventures 9600Wh is a good amount of batteries. You'll need a pretty big solar array to charge them up during the day. I'll be interested to see it. Thanks

I have Lion Energy 12 volt batteries. You might be better off buying 12 volt batteries and run them in series to get decent prices. The bigger sized batteries seem to cost much more than multiple 12 volt. I bought a pair from Costco for $1400.

I liked your video but honestly it could have been cut down to 5 min. You have to ask yourself, what do they need to know... Do they need to know I'm going to use MDF board and cut it down later, do they need to see my open the box, etc. Again just some constructive feedback. Thank you!

Interested in experimenting with a setup for my Cybertruck, for solar charging during weeklong backcountry camping trips. Am I correct in assuming that, in order to charge your tesla at 3kw like in this video, you need a 48v battery capable of 62.5A continuous output? And if, for example, you only had a battery capable of 31.25A continous output, the max speed you'd be able to charge is at 1.5 kw?

Received mine a few days ago. Also have a 48v 5.3kWh lama battery from bigbatteries on the way. Its a brand new unit and was about $2100. I think its one of the best values, and they can be linked for more capacity later. Still need to figure out what panels I'm going to go with. I'm leaning towards 320w panels at 40voc, having 2 sets of 3 in parallel. Do you think that would work ok? I'm a newbie when it comes to solar trying to learn along the way.
@AllElectricFamily
@AllElectricFamily 3 года назад
That's a good price for those batteries, I'll look at bigbattery again. Please make sure and do your own research but after taking a look at the manual it says you can have a maximum of 150VDC so the 120voc you are talking about should be good since its over the minimum of 60. That will be a great setup, good amount of solar with a powerful battery bank and inverter. Thanks for sharing!

Without even watching this I can tell you NO Only if you have direct sun all day (not cloudy or raining) you might be able to charge an ev car in 12 hours. But noway can you run your camper's AC. Solar panels don't run anything they just charge batteries. My credentials: I'm an electrical engineer with 12 years of RV solar charging. We have 700 watts of solar power charging 600 amps of batteries.

High frequency, transformerless inverters like these can toast your EV's onboard charger. High frequency inverters are not much more than a toy when it comes to reliability, performance and safety. They offer the poorest surge capacity ratings and a much short life expectancy than a real inverter that uses low frequency, transformer based technology, and because they don't have an iron core, copper wound output transformer to isolate the DC boost stage from its AC output, there is always the possibility that this cheap Chinese made inverter can pass DC current to your EVs onboard charger and set it on fire. If you want an inverter that's going to last10 to 15 years and provide you with maximum performance, and safely charge your EV then buy a low frequency, transformer based inverter charger.
