Hey Matt, Titans of CNC had been making full parts for Brandon! You should see if they’ll make you just a brand new bolt carrier instead of welding it

Aerospace tool maker here, currently working on 4th and 5th gen fighter jets. The BCG looks pretty simple, it’s possible I could machine a new one. For it to crack like that, it might of been a little too hard from heat treat. The harder the material the more brittle the material gets. Some nice D2 or S7 would probably be good for a BCG

The piston looks to be fairly simple to recreate on a small lathe and the bolt carrier would be a simple tig repair. Hopefully you can find someone close that can do the repairs for you.

I'm 99% sure that the machinist community can make you anything you need.

same exact thing happened to the mp7 at the rental range I used to work at. when we contacted HK they were more concerned about how we had it then fixing their gun with a sub 4k round count and unsuppressed. HK wont help you go with brandon.

As others have said, this video was awesome. Really enjoyed the troubleshooting aspect on a gun I'll never own. Very cool. Can't wait for the Renovating an Abandoned MP7 series!

You should definitely talk to Teufelshund Tactical. He’s an HK armorer, runs MP7s, and is super connected at HK (he even co-wrote Larry Vickers’ HK books).

Ian over at Forgotten Weapons, seems to be pretty tight with the people at HK. He's worked with them on multiple videos for his own channel. He may be able to point you in the right direction.

I work for Lewman Arms down in Florida, We are a 07/02 SOT that specialize in Machine gun repair. We can easily fix that bolt carrier for you. Even Brandon has sent things to us that were outside his comfort level.

Get Brandon's team to take some precise measurements of the piston, that part will be easy to CNC, and fix the bolt carrier, maybe you could even CNC a new one but that'd be a bit of a pain.

should definitely get brandon to help and maybe go to him and him explain how/show how he fixes it and shoot it together that would be a dope video

Honestly, I like this video the most... I love seeing firearms taken apart and put back together and see diagnostics of issues. This is so cool to see, and I know the algorithm won't let you show us everything but still love this. Also you have an MP7 and Cody doesn't lol

There is a CAD model for the bolt carrier group, so you can basically just get one made yourself. Also, you can buy the bolt carrier group within Germany.

solid or hollow bolt carrier, if hollow take broken part off and fill more metal behind it (weld) machine it flush and weld the broken pice on, i may work but when welding you ruin heat treat and get the possebilty you just move the crack forwards or back

putting an O light on a mp7 is absolutely insane behavior

Anyone with a lathe could make a new gas piston. This is technically a gas tappet system just like the m1 carbine because the piston stays in the gas block. The narrow part that was in the plastic bag sticks out of the gas block and pushes on the bolt carrier. The wide part hits against the gas block to keep the piston inside the gas block. It's easy to see how that little piece would want to keep moving and eventually broke off. You'll also need a new gas ring for the piston, which is a metal coil very similar to a piston ring in a car. If you're running suppressed it might be better to not use a gas ring or maybe have a separate smaller piston to allow more blow-by and reduce the speed of the piston and the bolt carrier. Repairing the bolt would be just like you said; grind out the old welds and weld it back together. However, the heat from welding would most likely damage the temper or any heat treating done to the bolt. From the factory the heat treating would be done after it was welded.

I had a licensed by HK airsoft MP7 GBB in high school because like Donut, the MP7 is probably my favorite gun of all time. However, the grip is not comfortable. I recommend gloves if you hold it for hours at a time. The pistol grip is basically the opposite angle of a Glock or an AR15, and the webbing of your thumb gets sore with that boxy area where the stock slides in. You’ll never know what I’m talking about until you hold one, or more likely an airsoft version.

Really should hit up Titans of CNC. If they can help brandon out with the 50, they can make a new carrier that's probably just objectively better than the OG.

You breaking into the specific guts and the mechanics of the gun were actually pretty cool, if you were testing out if that's something you want to start putting in videos I for one vote Yes

Texas Gun Experience in Grapevine TX has a few MP7s. I know they have broken and been fixed a few times. They might be able to help you out with your hunt for proper parts!

Any welder proficient in TIG welding should be able to reweld that bolt carrier. The piston might be able to be welded back together as well. If not, it looked pretty simple so it might be able to be reproduced on a lathe.

This is definitively one of the most interesting vids on this channel, despite the MP7 being broken. I hope you guys can get it fixed soon and do a ballistic dummy vid with it.

HK has had a few gun tubers out to their facilities. You should reach out and make it a video. Have some fun messing around and get your parts. I’m sure you could come up with some amazing content around that.

Would be a fun challenge for the titans of cnc to remanufacture those parts as well. I know they are working extensively with the AK50 build. If anyone could do it it would be them.

i think you can cnc the gas piston and just weld the bolt carrier and machine the welded part to size.

We run a Velos or flow 556k on our MP7. With an all polymer gun it seems important to keep things running as close to factory as normal. Would definitely suggest a low back pressure / flow through can!

Just machine your own bolt carrier. Guarantee there is a machinist that cant scan it, and mill an entire bcg. Thats what we did for our 1919, and vickers. Just depends on which part ie sear, lower, etc that is registered

In that first scene I realized Matt is one of the few guys that doesn't walk into a gun store and think "damn that's a lotta guns". He's thinks "hmm, if I bought the whole store out I could increase my collection by nearly 10%."

You can use the gas piston from a h&k g36 or h&k 416

I would take the parts to a good welding shop and have them ground down then Tig welded back together the bolt won't be a problem if done right the piston is kinda iffy but worth a shot most likely the piston will need welded every so often.
