I have tried a few and I think the Dahua's are close to the best at a similar price range. I find the night vision for moving objects in Reolink very smeary. I think too many people get hung up on megapixels. In low light megapixels don't mean much and a good quality 2MP camera can often do better than 8MP ones in low light. Have to admit the Reolink App is one of the best out there though.
@KPeyanski
@KPeyanski 3 года назад
Thanks Brendan, appreciate your comment and I can agree at 💯that the Megapixels are not that important. For good or for bad the industry is levitating around MP from a long time and this is valid not only for the security cameras. Anyway, I never had a chance to play with Dahua so I take your opinion for granted and if from no won someone asks me - What do you recommend beside Reolink? I would say - "As Brendan White said Dahua's...." hahah 🤪

@@KPeyanski lol :). IF you do ever get a chance to try a Dahua, something like a IPC-HDW-2831 have a comparison :). They are fully ONVIF compliant so can also use the ONVIF Home Assistant integration

I thought I did an upgrade the other week to make person detection work in HA I have my integration in HACS. I use Node Red to get the trigger from HA to send me notification and snapshot on phone

Hi Fred, if I understood correctly you installed the reolink_dev custom integration from HACS and you used Node-RED for the automations. If so that is a great combination. Good job

Sounds good, you can try without NR and everything to be in HA to see if the percentage will increase.

Congrats for the video, very informative. Just one doubt, will a 8Gb raspberry pi4 handle this setup with the NVR, plus some other add-ons like Shelly hardware?

Yes it will. RPI with 8Gb is my main Home Assistant Server right now and I have a lot of add-ons and goodies. Thanks for the good words about the video.

Maybe the RLC-810A works better but the person detection in my RLC-510A is a bit of a hit and miss. I've had both false positives and missed persons. Switched to Frigate instead and that has been rock solid.

It is unfortunate that AI alerts aren't working in the integration yet. I will try the separate AI detection integrations you mentioned.

Thanks for another great video! I've purchased a RLC-510WA and installed the reolink_dev integration, but unfortunately can not get the binary sensor to detect any motion. All the entities are available inside HA and the motion detection works well in the Reolink App. Do you know if that's a problem with the 510 series since it seems to work with your camera setup in your video?
@KPeyanski
@KPeyanski 3 года назад
I'm not sure, but it seems that there is something different in RLC-510WA. I can suggest to open a issue/ticket in the reolink_dev GitHub repo.

HI Awesome video! just got RLK8-520D4-A system. I've followed the steps but I ran into a problem. when I try to connect to the NVR, I just get an error saying "Failed to connect with the camera." NVR works with ONVIF but yeah doesn't show up when I add via Reolink IP camera. Thanks if you could help.

Can you try to open it with something else? Just to check is the stream is working and your credentials are correct? For example you can use MotionEye as home assistant add-on to try it. Check this video of mine if you need help - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e27jyEcE5lU.html

Thanks, I was looking forward to a video about Reolink. I'm thinking of buying the 1220a as soon as it's available. But do you need an NVR if you're only using 2 camera's of which one is a wireless doorbell? Ofcourse I will use this with Home assistant. Unfortunately, this doesn't have a floodlight integrated. Do you know a way to connect this to a relay controlled floodlight?
@KPeyanski

No, NVR is optional, you can use a SD card or FTP server to store the camera footage, but I must say that once you with NVR you will never what to go back. At least from my observations ;)

I used RLN8-410 8port PoE NVR and RLC-810A 4K AI Camera . When I add a channel from the NVR, I see only 3 entities:the camera itself, "Camera1 Last Event" and "Camera1 motion". Where are the rest, like the IR lights? Also motion events rarely reach HA. Any ideas?

Hi, I have tought about this config but in case of nvr fail all video functions are out of work! I think using cameras + frigate solution is better because if HA + frigate failed the camera can continue to send alarms on motion in stand alone. Using a nvr the cameras are on another network and nvr is like a firewall! I'm thinking about to run on dell wyse 5070 fanless HA + frigate and usb-c caral tpu for a complete nvr solution. In last have you an advice about to use many HA platforms like a dedicated HA nvr and other HA and an HA supervisor with mqtt to centralize all the topics just to avoid a malfunction of all important domotics tasks in case of nvr overwork? regards
@KPeyanski
@KPeyanski 3 года назад
If you are going to use coral TPU, don't separate the HA installations as the coral will unload your CPU and it will do the heavy lifting so your system will be able to handle the other important tasks. But of course that depends of the number of cameras that you are going to use. If they are let's say above 6-8, than separate the installations. Good luck!

Very good video. I just got my Reolink NVR with 4K cameras and I have to say I love it. However, HA integration doesn't work in 100%. I can't get live feed in my lovelace dashboard (that was also see in your movie at 8m 58s). It would be grate if that can be fixed or bypassed by some other config.

Thanks for the video - this is exactly the setup I'm thinking about. Are you able to please comment on these questions? 1. Is there any difference in the hardware when bought in a bundle vs separately? I read somewhere the lack of "UID" when bought in bundle and therefore the cameras can't be accessed individually by Google Home. Is that true? 2. I presume the HA custom component can access each camera feed separately, not just one, correct? Thanks!
@KPeyanski
@KPeyanski 3 года назад
1. I'm not 100% sure here, better ask Reolink support they will answer you for sure. 2. No, not just one! As many as you wish/have. You just have to repeat the process for the other cameras from the Home Assistant UI once and that is all.
@MedyqGaming
@MedyqGaming Год назад
Yes. Official answer from Reolink to me. No UIDs on cameras from bundles. Buy separately cameras ans nvr. No UIDs means you cant access cameras via Voice Assistant and if I remember, cant connect nvr and cameras separately to switch (here you need to confirm) but No UIDs for sure
