There is a capacitor you can remove out of this that really it drastically improves the FM high-end. You should really do it you'd be amazed at how much better it sounds
I found video I made of the late 1980's radio fest and action at Elgin Illinois. Amazing radios and equipment that you may not see today. I'll upload it soon.
I found a video that I made in the late 1980s. It is of a radio fest and auction at Elgin Illinois, lots and lots of radios and equipment. I'm going to make it my next video. I still have the video camera I used it was a JVC VHSC. Of course it doesn't work anymore but I did transfer the VHSC to digital.
That radio was Very expensive in it's day selling for around $190 in 1961. That would be around $1600 in todays money. That would be a couple of weeks pay for the average working guy back then. You're absolutely right about never seeing that kind of quality again. Hand made in the USA. That's why it's still working well almost 60 years later. ATB Doug.
Now that’s high quality! Made in North America unlike stuff made in China! Point to point wiring I love point to point wiring that means high quality workman ship built to last! Great video.
Nice Job! I am a collector of old Zenith radios. Especially the Trans Oceanic 7000 series. The point to point wired versions are like works of art. Just like your Royal 2000.
Carbon comp resistors change in value due to heat and chemical reactions caused by voltage across them. Tube sets have both heat and appreciable voltages acting on the resistors (and capacitors too) which causes breakdown of the parts. As you can see, a transistor set operates on low voltage, and makes very little heat, and the parts last "forever". Very interesting to see very old parts well within tolerance.
Nice job restoring that classic!!!! Looks good with all that cigarette paste removed. Those were the early ghetto blasters from the sixties before 8 tracks and cassettes came along
Just picked up a radio shack model 12-889 am fm weather radio for 50 cents at a flea market. Just had to clean it up. Plays perfect and has good sensitivity on am like a super radio. Only drawback it has is that it is made in China
I am from the UK and I can recall my Mothers American Cousin had a Zenith when he came to stay with us many years ago. This was back in 1970 when I was a Kid so the Set probelly came from the same Era as this one.
A great video, of a great classic radio. BTW:. Stations in more than 1 FM channel are mostly used by AM stations that want translators on the FM & there aren't enough channels for them to get a single, more powerful signal. Translators are also very limited power.
this gentleman is a mirical worker with old radios i dont no howe he dose it he gets tired burned out old sets and then gets them working like new a real credit to his craft i my self have a british made bush dac 90 a from 1950 but it was broken so i had it restored in side andi 22 years i have had it and no problems frankie 37 london uk
I love those big radios!!! You will never find them anymore only large tailgate Bluetooth speakers with only fm digital tuners. No am on them. AM will most likely be phased out and obsolete in 10 years just like shortwave
I have a Zenith Royal 2000 with low volume and dials dont turn The fromt emd AM-FM worlks good This will need a cap job and the dials serviced Thank God the front end works good Shango 66 had major problem with the front end on the Zenith royal 2000 and it also needed a cap job
Very nice informative video. I'm guessing here, but I think the reason the paint is worn off the grill near the tuning knob by someone's hand rubbing against it for decades. Regards, Tom
Shango 066 resurrected a busted up Zenith Royal 1000 that set in a desert dump exposed to rain sand and hot temperatures for 30 years. Talk about Zenith quality!!! Watch his video!!!!
Noticed the from legend in the bottom of the battery tray, that someone had loaded the lower row of batteries in backwards... I'm guessing that might have something to do with why it was up for auction...
congrats on getting that model, people are willing to pay a lot for that particular one on cashbay, still waiting for mine to arrive at a reasonable price (some day)
If it picks up Rush Limbaugh, the radio is fixed and working. No need to proceed any further Just put a set of rechargeable batteries in it and you’re all set for the beach with that vintage ghetto blaster!!!! Crank it up!!!!! I hardly got any rest last night. There were women banging on my door. I finally got up and let them out !!!!!!
Do you have a favorite radio company . I hate when people throw out radios ,but most people I understand don't want the head ache having it fixed they figure it will cost more then the radio worth ,and a lot of times they are right ,and there aren't that many places you can have that some anymore sad.thanks for your video
I would upgrade to rechargeable D batteries and connect a linear wall. Wort to charge the batteries It would be cheaper in the long run over alkaline batteries and would avoid leaking problems associated with alkalines
Everyone's Cordlesd Nowadays People Dont Mess With That Corded Stuff Anymore. Cordless Mean Freedom Most Of Those Radios The Power Suply Is The First Thing To Go. I Domt Care Anyhow. Cause Like I Said I Buy Rechargeable Batterys Anyhow. They Go Low I Just pop Them In The Charger Anyways. I Do The Same With My Portable CD Player.
Nice Old Radio I Bet It Sounds Great. That's Why I Buy Rechargeable Batterys I Dont Know Why People Buy Those Alkaline Batterys Their The Biggest Leaky Colprets Around. That's Why I Never Buy Them.
