Trim pieces are always easy to figure out once you get them off and probably break them once. In this video we show how the trim piece works so hopefully you won’t have to break it to see how it works. This lower molding had some of the clips break and some of the trim itself break. In the video we repair of the trim piece rather than buy a new one. Since the plastic is polyethylene you can’t glue the plastic it Hass to be plastic weld it with a soldering iron. It’s amazing how strong of a repair this makes. You remove the entire piece pull the clips off and then in one forward motion do you assemble the entire piece.

Thanks heaps for the vid. Having just endured the same repair, I'd like to offer viewers a couple of other tips. Before removing, undo the the nuts that hold the big clips, one at either end. The nuts are on the interior side of the door, at the bottom and are plastic coated. You can undo them with your fingers. Easy! If you don't do this and those clips (or rather, the molded mounts they slide into) aren't already broken, they will break and mean more plastic welding for you. At around 2:40 in the video, the guy says 'these one don't need a clip they just push onto the square'. They don't push on! You can see they're supposed to slide on but from opposite directions. This did my head in! But, if you remove the clips like I mentioned above, you can slide them in while it's off the door, then when you push the molding onto the door, the bolts pop through the holes and you can do the nuts up on the interior side. Finally, I've got to say... Hyundai... I know you want a clean look, but there's got to be a better way than this! If you are going to engineer it as a disposable part, don't charge $480 to supply and fit. That's what they wanted in Australia!

Very helpful comment to tighten up the bolts from the interior of the car door. I didn't realize that's how it worked until you mentioned it.

I just came back to this video to offer the advice as well, good point as these are the strongest points holding the trim on.

Well said. This is a design flaw of the Santa Fe. The trim catches on high grassy verges and rips clean off. My wife has managed to do it twice in the past year. Very easy to do, especially at night after a couple of bevvies 😂

You could use a little bit of Brillo pad mix it in while you're welding

Looks just like a 2005 Santa Fe. My additional problem is that the molded holder for the clips (two forward most and both upper and lower of the fourth clip back are completely gone. Do you have a work around for this problem? Hoping your reply is not that the whole panel needs replacement. In any event thanks for the helpful video.

Very nice. Unfortunately, this piece has broken off a couple times for me, due to a high curb in front of my house and it catching on it. Most of the clips are missing and some of those molded anchor spots are missing too.

There are times when I’ve used a soldering iron to plastic weld some of the broken pieces back on. Of course there’s a limit to this. Sometimes it’s so bad you have to get a new one or used one at a junkyard. No one how to get it on and off sometimes is more than half the battle

Poor design by Hyundai. Why would you build something that so easily catches onto outside objects. By the way, where can I get the clips from?

I was really glad we didn’t have to buy a new piece. It was like $80. It seems like it all snapped on OK. Will give it the time test, I think it’ll pass it though.

No! Read Cory’s comment above. You have to unscrew two clips from inside the door panel. Remove the panel and you’ll see two nuts on each end for the trim piece.

Thanks for this video. The soldering got me part way there. I then drowned all the broken sockets in epoxy resin. Seems to have done the trick.

Thank you. Fixed mine for the price of a cheap soldering iron rather than paying a body shop a small fortune. ***Those two bottom clips you left in can be removed by opening the door and twisting off the bolts they are attached too. Or with the trim off, you can slide your fingers under and touch the bolt. I noticed your bottom part of the trim was sticking out once reattached so looked until I found that little secret. I tried to smash it on at first before finding this out and it resulted in the bottom part sticking out and me partially breaking those clips. Quick soder fixed it.

Glad it was helpful, it seems like hidden fasteners like that are easy to see what you’ve got after pry on it and break it. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it
