Part 4 of 4 videos on fixing the gas pump shut off early problem. This video covers replacing the vapor canister purge valve.
Likely there is a problem with the "evap" system which commonly fails on Chevy Tahoe and Suburban from 1997-2006. Check engine lights and issues putting gas into the tank where the pump clicks and won't allow any more gas are common symptoms of an evap system issue. My vehicle is a 2005 Chevy Suburban LTZ, 5.3L Flex fuel, 2WD.

There are only 3 lines, no need to drop the tank. The line from the tank is short and goes to the vapor canister, when it's disconnected from the vapor canister you'll smell fuel, that's fuel vapor line to the vapor canister. Then you have the long line that heads to the engine and connects to the part you are replacing (vapor canister purge valve), then there is a line from the vapor canister to the evap purge solenoid and that should be it on the 5.3 vortex motors 2005 through 2007. Only time you'll need to drop the tank is during a smoke test due to evap system large leak if smoke is detected on the top of the tank.

2006 suburban. Pumping fuel is fine, no loss of power just a strong smell of fuel after driving at the rear of the vehicle. Any thoughts on which component is most likely the issue?

2005 Tahoe. Evap code. When I walk past my fuel filler, I smell gas whether the tank is empty or full. Do you think it is the cap that's causing the code?

I know this is an older video but I was wondering if anyone knows where to buy that rubber piece that was swapped over from the old valve to the new one. I have checked several OEM GM sites and done google searches and can't seem to find one. mine has flattened out and hardened so the valve just wobbles around instead of being clamped down to the intake.

I used a wet vac to suck out the charcoal from the lines going to the canister. Seem to work well had a vac full of pellets. Replaced the two valves and canisters, took care of it. Parts from rock Auto 150$ couple hours lador. Dealer wanted 2300$ same job.

I cannot pump gas into my 2002 suburban ... even after replacing the purge solenoid, vent valve, vapor canister, and gas cap. I blew out the lines with compressed air after disconnecting all of them while the tank was lowered. I didn't touch the full pump lines at all since the truck runs great. Any help is welcome!

@Rich I replaced everything in the fuel system except for the fuel tank itself. While I am able to pump gas now, I'm still getting a code P0446. VENT SYSTEM HIGH. The smaller gas tank filler hose nipple on the tank has a split all the way around it, Creating a leak. I need to either swap out the tank now, or seal it somehow. You may want to check that too.

Thanks for responding to me. I've replaced the charcoal canister, evap vent solenoid, blew out all lines, and still have the problem. I keep thinking something's up with the gas tank filler neck. But I haven't changed the purge valve under the hood because I don't see how that would even matter if the truck is not running.

Well I guess I'm gonna try the purge valve by the engine and see if it does anythand. If not I was actually thinking filler next to like maybe something got lodge down in there somehow

That was a difficult one. I disconnected the line from both ends and blew air from both ends. I also banged on it to rattle the bits out for about 30 minutes.

@Shop Warrior Can you remove the line From the purge solenoid on the intake manifold that connects to the vapor canister? I replaced the vent valve of the vapor canister and the purge someone I'd end the fuel cap and I still can't pump gas into the tank. It's a 2002 suburban.

Technically, it's a 8mm, but 5/16 is "same" size head. Bolt is metric.

Did this cause your truck to run badly my truck is rough idle and crackles and pops on take off

No, actually it did not seem to effect anything (engine idle, etc.). Everything ran just fine. It only effected putting gas into the tank and it kicking the gas pump off.
