@@kmisercola7180 I have been lucky, none of the clutch jobs I've done have required that as yet.

Thank you so so so much ! I'm a do it myself kind of person, but once in awhile I hit a wall. Your video was very helpful in getting my Massey 135 back together. I could not engage the PTO without shutting off the tractor, putting it in gear and then starting the tractor while the starter turning the PTO as well. Thanks to you I'm able to fix this thing at last. Thanks ! ! ! !

Well done video, thank you. I've just split a 255 Massey this weekend and I'm about to take the clutch off the flywheel. Very informative!

This video combined with the video of taking the clutch out were immensely helpful. The clutch in my MF165 was done. Pretty sure it was original from the early 70's. Just a couple tips on taking these dang things apart. Plan for a few days, since as of yet, I have no idea how to tell what clutch is in the tractor without taking it apart. There are several different combinations. Use a heavy duty c-clamp. Wood clamps are not gonna make it easy. If you have the blue springs in your clutch, be ready, they are a much heavier spring than the red ones. I had the blue springs, but the new clutch had the red. I have yet to notice a difference in performance. In an older clutch, do not use the bolts holding it together to compress the springs, especially with blue springs. Use the c-clamp.

Thanks for the quick response. The JD 510 was only sold here in 67,68,69 so very hard to find parts. I may have to get my old plate relined.

You're very welcome. The 510 and 710 are kind of tricky for parts, hope you are able to find what you need.

Good video I have a 175 that the clutch is stuck got to break it apart soon see what is wrong. I have never done one before was gonna have it done, but they want to much labor price and cows are just to cheap to pay that kind of repair cost. I subbed also.

Hi, your videos are very informative. I have a John Deere 510 I purchased with two stage issues. pto and 1 gear which uses two stage are grinding, second stage not disengaging. I split tractor and adjusted according to the service manual (adjusting screws were seized so had to split). Reassembled and no change. Pedal is fairly solid on second stage, doesn't feel right, felt the same before I split. I think the second stage is seized and not moving at all. I didn't disassemble clutch as I had no dummy shaft. I'm going to used like this for summer by shutting off tractor to engage pto. Split again when I am done for the season. What is the fix? New pressure plate? Where would I be able to aquire a dummy shaft for install?Thanks in advance,Jim
@CanadianRedneck15
@CanadianRedneck15 7 лет назад
Hi Jim, it sounds like the second stage is seized. The pressure plate itself could be rusted or stuck, or the secondary disk could be stuck to the two pressure plate faces. Either way, most reliable fix is a new pressure plate. Some replacement kits come with a lining shaft, otherwise you may have to improvise with sockets and an extension. Good luck and thanks for watching!

You don't have to clamp it that's why you put the bolts in tighten them remove pins back bolts out one turn at a time I use a three inch bolt with a nut
@CanadianRedneck15
@CanadianRedneck15 6 лет назад
You certainly clamp the pressure plate with bolts, I just use c-clamps. Thanks for watching!

Great vid Dave, isn't there also an internal adjustment on the MF two stage clutch? Or are factory set. Thanks
@CanadianRedneck15

+masseymm The only adjustments I'm aware of are the set-screws for the PTO and the screws on the end of the fingers. Thanks for watching!

At 9.21 you mark the anchor plate that bevel washer has to sit up on the lip of anchor plate correct or does the bevel washer go over top of the lip on anchor plate because on the Massey 25 it doesn't go over the lip so I put it together upside down on a block to keep that bevel washer straight will you clamp it together I had one machined so bevel washer slipped over lip and it didn't work properly
@CanadianRedneck15
@CanadianRedneck15 6 лет назад
The belleville washer sits on top of the lip, the cover will hold it in place.

Sometimes you can take a 3/8 drive extension and put 1/2"drive sockets on it to line the disks up. Thanks for watching!

Hi Dave, your videos have helped me so much, thank you for doing them! I have a question, I'm replacing the PTO captive disc on a massey 35 today... but instead of the wire clips holding the 3 lever pivot pins in place mine are held by a small roll pin that is driven into a hole in the cover casting through one end of each pivot pin, do I drill these roll pins out or shear them off by driving on the pivot pins in order to release the levers? Then do i replace with new roll pins?
@CanadianRedneck15
@CanadianRedneck15 6 лет назад
It seems to me that someone has been into that one before and either lost the spring clips or decided a roll pin would be better which leaves you in a bit of a pickle. If you just drive the pin out breaking the roll pin there will still be a piece in the hole below the pin to get out, I think I would try getting something like a small screw to grab the pin and try to pull it. Good luck and thanks for watching!
@TheDungorm

thanks for taking the time to reply Dave, turns out from an old service manual that this was the way the lever pivot pins were held on the earlier MF35 double clutch, the manual says to drive them deeper in towards the belleville washer and shear off if necessary by striking the pivot pin. For reassembly, it says to replace the pivot pins with a special D headed pin that's held in by a split pin through the end. I guess the flat side on the head is to prevent the pin from turning in the cover journals, the D head of the pin should be on the leading side as the clutch rotates. I will have to order a set of the pins, looks like Sparex S.1782, MF 828597M2 in case anyone else has the same problem. Thanks again. Content by experienced people like you and Bundy Bear 'down-under' plus the ongoing availability of parts for these old tractors helps keep our head above water here on the farm... on the left coast of Canada. It's a small world now!

It's great you had access to that manual, that takes all the guess work out of the equation and thank you for the update, it is great to have the learning opportunity! Lance at Bundy Bears shed is a great guy and very knowledgeable, a really great resource!

what will happen when you put the washer the other side?????
@CanadianRedneck15
@CanadianRedneck15 7 лет назад
I believe you mean the belville spring that operates the PTO pressure plate, if so, if you put the spring in upside down it might bind or not release when the clutch pedal is pressed. Thanks for watching!
