Replacing both upper control arms on a v6 2005 Mazda bravo / Ford courier,
If you buy just the bushing you need to get them pressed in. you can not get them out unless you want to be a real hack.
I suggest you buy both arms like i did and you get the new ball joints to.
Just make sure you put them shims in properly like you took it apart.
After you done the job take it in for a wheel alignment.
Symptoms of worn control arms are.
Tyre wear on the inside both wheels
Also steering wheel won't be 100% straight.
You will get Tyre shake a little to in the steering wheel when Tyre are cold.
Also when on full lock you will get front end noise bushing bind up they make a squeak.

I'm watching this again because I'm replacing the bushes in upper control arms of my RWD version of the V6 Courier. I have the hi-lift model crew cab with an aluminium tray. They're basically the 4WD without the front drive train. I've just done the tie rod ends, new rotors, pads, and a set of Dobinsons Heavy Duty shocks. I'll be doing the stabilisers etc as well as the rear spring bushes and shocks. I may do the torsion rods as well.

I used a 19mm ring spanner and another spanner for leverage and managed to crack those upper arm nuts from the wheel well. But then, once the ball joint is off, I have a lot more room to work with because I don't have to muck around with CV joints. The hub just drops out of the way.

I've got the 2WD. The passenger side is a piece of cake. The driver's side on the other hand is just a pain. Oil filter housing, steering shaft, and the brake line mount are all in the way. Looks like I'll be busy today.

Got the bushes today. I've released the ball joint and have backed off the nuts. Now I'll play some more. I'll have to press the new bushes with a vice because I don't have a hydraulic press. Should be fun. Got the stabiliser bushes too, so should have all the front end done in a few days, depending on how motivated I am.

Did you do your lower control arms at all? Mine make a hell of a noise when you drop off the gutter onto the road when making a u turn.
@randomthingsarebest1473
@randomthingsarebest1473 Год назад
No never did lower control arms. Torsion front end in them is what causes the noise. It's not a good design. Don't put oil or anything in them tho otherwise it will make dirt and dust stick.

Got them of ebay $160 or something aud shipped. Be careful with parts and years they are not the same.

Ok Thanks. I have just ordered the bushes from Ford. $NZD80 a side so will have to press them out. The dealer said they could do that but if I can’t do it lol.

@@skippy3309 Not worth buying the bushes and saving money just buy the whole thing. If you have to take them to someone to press them out cost you more then buying both control arms new. I could not get my bushes out i never had a press either.

They are as tight as you can get the nuts done up. They can not be crushed they are steel with rubber bonded on the out sides. All metal. When new they can be quite stiff.
