The CV joint boot should be replaced as soon as possible after damage is discovered. On a Chery QQ car, the boot has almost crumbled, and dirt getting into the CV joint can damage it. Replacing the CV joint boot is carried out in the following order:
Remove the front wheel drive, to do this:
- drain the oil from the gearbox;
- using a thin chisel and a hammer, bend the jammed side of the hub nut;
- loosen the hub nut;
- loosen the wheel nuts, lift the front part of the car and place it on supports;
- remove the wheel and unscrew the hub nut with the thrust washer;
- unscrew the two nuts of the bolts securing the torque rod and ball joint to the front suspension arm and remove the bolts;
- move the reaction rod to the side;
- move the telescopic strut slightly to the side and remove the shank of the external constant velocity joint from the hub;
- remove the front wheel drive assembly;
Replace the constant velocity joint, to do this -
- remove the clamps securing the joint cover to its body and shaft;
- slide the boot along the shaft and turn it inside out;
- clamp the hinge in a vice and use a hammer to knock the outer hinge off the shaft, applying force to the hinge cage;
- fill the new joint with the grease included in the kit;
- if necessary, replace the retaining ring on the shaft;
- press the new joint onto the shaft using a hammer and a wooden board;
- place the rubber cover on the body and press the edge of the cover with a screwdriver so that excess air comes out;
- secure the cover with a clamp.
Install the front wheel drive in reverse order.
This procedure is similar for most domestic and imported cars.
