Thank you so much for this video, it saved me a lot of steps and I was actually able to save a few more by just taking off both steering mechanisms and the left side planetary gear set and slide the axle to the right and you can now get at the 4 bolts and remove the rubber ring and replace it without taking the drive shaft out of the snow blower.
I have a China brand snowblower that has an identical friction wheel and I think this ring would be the same for mine. What is the model number of the replacement ring? And do you know the dimensions?
I'm pretty sure all brands are "china brand" these days. These MTD drive rings DO come in differnet sizes so you definitely want to find the model number on the label of your machine. Then go to a site like jackssmallengines.com and bring up the parts diagram. Then you can get the exact part number of your drive ring. Then hop on ebay and buy it for $10 :) If your blower has wheels instead of tracks, it will be WAY easier to install than *this* video. I plan on making a wheeled version of this video sometime this Winter.
@@YardworkWithJohn Thanks for the reply. I have a GIO1101Q (GIO brand) snowblower that was made and 15 years ago. It is a track drive similar to the one in your video. There are no parts available for it from the manufacturer as they are no longer in business and apparently they made only one run of these snowblowers way back then. After some further digging and measuring, it looks like I'll need the equivalent MTD 935-0243B friction wheel ring which measures Inside Diameter 3-7/8-inch, Outside Diameter 4-7/8-inch.
@@DemetriosManosRealtorI've never heard of that brand and had a hard time even coming up with something googling it. Do you know if it was manufactured by MTD? Many different brands (Yardmachines, Troybilt, cubcadet etc) were made by MTD and all use the same parts. If it's a totally separate manufacturer, hopefully they used a "standard" sized drive ring. If the ring is too big, I imagine it will slip on the drive wheel and your machine won't go. I trash-picked a Troy Bilt that I'm fixing up now and the rubber on the drive wring was COMPLETELY gone, worn down to the metal. It's crazy how some people never do anything to maintain their equipment!
Yeah it is kind of excessive. I think on models with wheels, there are a few less steps but at least the drive ring lasts for a bunch of years so you don't have to do this often.
