My name is Austin, this is Mopar Garage, and we build cool stuff in here! Today we are changing out the transmission strut mount and power steering pump on the Shelby Dodge Daytona Turbo Z project. As you’ll see, we did have to do a little improvising to get the job done!

Thanks man! I can’t wait either. Going to be pretty surreal to roll it out for the first time. This is the longest project I’ve ever done, and it’s still a few months away, minimum, from completion.

If you can run the pump off a drill with the belt to test for leaks. Someone on the forums got a rockauto pump and the line fitting was wrong so he caught the car on fire with a big leak...

Good thought. I’ve heard so many stories of defective parts right out of the box lately!

I have a 86 New Yorker turbo. When I put the car in reverse you can feel a clunk like a bad motor mount but the mounts are good. You think it could be the transmission strut? By the way I love your channel.

Thanks for watching man! If the engine mounts are good, I'd definitely check the Trans mounts. I'm like 75% sure only the 5 speeds had this strut type mount and automatics had more of a traditional mount, but I could be wrong.

Had the strut bushings just completely dry rotted off, or did someone replace the strut before and forget them?

With how loose the nut was, I am thinking they just got so old and dry rotted that they disintegrated. The previous owner bought it in 1992 with 68K on it, I bought it in 2022 with 91K, so it sat a LOT.

Where do you even find parts for this? Lol

Haha it hasn’t been easy! Thankfully I’ve developed some relationships over the past year and a half while building it with guys across the country who are collectors/enthusiasts of these cars. They’ve helped me out a lot.
